  1. I bought this rod on clearance at my local shop over the summer for $45 out the door (talk about a steal). I had no use for it, but I can never pass up a great deal. I've only used it two days on the water and I used it for throwing a 3/4oz. spinnerbait. It's a big stick and certainly isn't something that I would consider an "all around" cranking rod. You're better off getting a 7' or 7'6" MH rod for this application. A heavy power cranking rod (especially at 7'11") is not ideal for smaller cranks like squarebills/DT4/Shad Raps because its too powerful and the long length makes it extremely difficult to be accurate with.
  2. I highly recommend the Ike Series over the Veritas. With the various sales going on this time of year, it shouldn't be hard to get one for around $100.
  3. Your 734 is perfectly fine for chatterbaits.
  4. I just picked up that Fury 795 on Black Friday for just this same application. It should be a perfect fit and it wont' break your budget.
  5. If you're talking about Fat Impacts, I throw mine on on a St. Croix Avid 7' M-F and a Metanium 6:1 or 7:1 (depending on how fast I need to fish it). For line I'm using 12-15lb. Fluoro or Co-Poly. Hopefully this is what you're looking for.
  6. I've yet to find a bad bait from Jackall
  7. I was wondering the same thing as well. I ordered two of the new $7 versions on my latest TW order on Black Friday. I'm curious to see if there is a difference.
  8. St Croix and Dobyns. I haven't owned any high end GLoomis, but I'm sure they would fit in there if I did.
  9. There is, however this wasn't on my boat.
  10. I thought I'd share this one. Shows off the thermocline and how fish relate above it.
  11. Another vote for a fast action rod for buzzbaits. A M-F or MH-F at around 7' is going to be your bread and butter.
  12. In regards to the durability of the Fat Impacts, I've seen it swing both ways (pun intended). I've had baits last a fish or two, I've had other baits that have lasted a dozen+ bass/pike in one day. I like to use the screw lock swimbait hooks with these and usually it's just the nose area that gets tore up from the screw. If you fill that nose with crazy glue, you'd be surprised how much that glue will hold the bait together for you.
  13. I've got the 684CB and it's too soft/light for anything bigger than say 5/16 when it comes to jerkbaits. I'd suggest the 685 or don't get a cranking edition. I honestly prefer my fast action rods over the 684CB for jerkbaits. Don't get my wrong, the 684CB is an awesome squarebill/DT6/Wiggle Wart rod. Just too soft for my liking for jerkbaits.
  14. Which SC line are you looking at? I own quite a few Avid's and I don't think they offer any MF's in that lineup.
  15. You'll have to wait until April for an on the water review, but sure!
  16. $40-50 a pack for products that are 2+ months old?! Sounds like I've got about $2k worth of Keitechs sitting in my storage bin!!!!
  17. Picked up quite a bit. I think I made 2 orders with Monster, 3 with TW, 1 with Seibert and 1 with SFT. Some of the highlights were: Dobyns Fury 795 SWB rod 3 spools of Sunline Assassin Megabass I Slide 135 in the Gill color 2 S-Waver 120's and 2 in the 168 5 Rod Gloves 9 various LC cranks 3 Rat-L-Traps And a few Seibert Swim Jigs and Megastrike Shak-E2 jigs
  18. Called up SFT on the phone today to find out what the "Too Good" deals were. I'm glad I called. Thanks SFT.
  19. Sounds like DSG probably made all their stores over the country report in what they had left for Stradic 2500, and they decided to get rid of them by having a pre-black Friday sale. Once they were sold online, they had whatever store was closest to the customer ship whatever they had to them. Sounds like bholtz got lucky. I'm still happy with my reel. Usually the only thing to worry about with display model spinning reels is the bail spring, because it's probably been flipped by every customer that touched it during its shelf life.
  20. Bagley B2 Strike King KVD 1.5 Mann's 1- LC 1.5 Spro Little John's
  21. Megastrike did one last year. I'm hoping they do again this year.
