  1. If you already have a medium power, I'd use that for bass and perch. I'd get a MH for stripers. The Avid rods are very nice, and I hear the LTB's are even nicer.
  2. Most of the one's around here are mostly hunting guides, fishing charters, taxidermists, truck and quad dealers, various hunting call companies, and very little fishing related stuff. On top of all that, they're packed to the hilt full of people who think its the greatest thing ever.
  3. My buddy and I like to fish my uncles little pond and we usually partner up on the fish. We'll both start off throwing different stuff until we find out what they're hitting. Once we do that, we'll both throw the same thing. Once the fish seem like they're stopping to bite on that lure, we'll start switching it up again to see if they want something else. Once we figure that out again, we'll match up again. It's interesting to see how the fish might stop hitting jerkbaits after 30 minutes, and then all of the sudden they may want a squarebill.
  4. I'm big on moving baits. I feel very confident in my crankbaits and topwater baits. I'll throw a plastic worm or a jig whenever I have to, but I feel like I'm much better with a moving bait.
  5. I started watching that video and started thinking he was going to dink drop it over the railing of that dock...
  6. If you're trying to avoid getting snagged, you're going to have to go with a Texas rig or topwater.
  7. Remind me never to go fishing with you...
  8. I have to wear a hat. I always have a bad day if I forget a hat. And I have to have my rain gear with me. If I forget it, it will rain, 100% guaranteed.
  9. To add to that, hook size/weight can make a diving crankbait run deeper or shallower. Putting a larger/heavier hook on a deep diving crankbait will actually make it run a little bit shallower because the larger hook causes more drag in the water, making the lure not dive as deep (same theory when using a heavier line).
  10. The HMG's are much nicer than the HMX. I don't know how they're only $10 different.
  11. It's the same blank, different grips, and microguides. Great rods for the money, made in the USA, and a solid warranty. St. Croix won't ever let you down.
  12. I could honestly care less if the colors pair up. I'll take quality over aesthetics any day. As for technique, I've already got a setup for basically every application, so it's not like I have any gaps to fill. It will mostly likely be used for a jerkbait/plastics/small topwater type of setup.
  13. This really depends on the water and conditions. If the first spot I come up to is some standing trees in 20 feet of water, I'd be silly to put a buzzbait on. However, if it's late summer and it's first thing in the morning and I'm on a 6' deep weed bed, that buzzbait will likely be my ice breaker for the day.
  14. So this winter, the Shimano 50 size bug got me. I recently picked up a Chronarch 51e and I planned on pairing it up with a St Croix AV70MF. I then found a practically new Curado 50e for a great price, so I snagged that one up as well. I'm not sure what rod to pair up with this reel. I hate to have two setups that are exactly the same, so I wanted to see what you all would suggest pairing it with. Let me hear your opinions. Thanks.
  15. Frabill F3 series. It will not let you down, and it's much cheaper than some of the other high end rain gear out there.
  16. Top one looks like a live bait hook, commonly used for catfish and carp. Bottom one is the same type of thing, meant for a snell knot type setup (notice the angle of the eyelet).
  17. Yeah they did haha. 7 colors and they only have one left in stock.
  18. I like to use the EWG trebels on lures that the fish are more likely to inhale, rather than lures that a fish will slap at. The point of the hook is more exposed to grab on a standard round bend, rather than on an EWG. So if it's a lure that the fish may not be swallowing, it gets a round bend. Most common lure I put EWG's on is a lipless crankbait. Fish just seem to inhale these style lures the most in my opinion. Most common lures I'll put a round bend on is topwater and jerkbaits. Crankbaits (squarebill/shallow/mid/deep) can go either way really, it's all in what you feel confident in. In some of my lures that I use a lot, ex. a DT6 in perch color, I keep two in my box. One with round bends, one with EWG's.
  19. According to my order history on TW, $2031 in the past year, just with TW...
  20. I bought three packs when they first came out. I used them once, and never threw them again. I just couldn't get them to work right.
  21. I prefer the original rat l traps.
  22. It hasn't been above 15 degrees here in a week, so....
  23. Green will probably win this one. And the fact that it is the most common braid color will strongly influence that.
