I believe it when I see it. I'm not interested with anything another fisherman "I don't know" has to say about a lake I'm going to scout and fish. More often than not the guy at the ramp is whining about his all season strike outs or the fantasy fish he caught. I'm doing two tournaments with my brother in May on lakes I've never been on. I'll spend the time finding out for myself how I want to fish it. "On the other hand if I was going to fish a lake I had never been on and it was miles long I'd be picking brains all over town for days".

So many possibilities.. I will be using a ned rig more often this year. I'll have to make a hook decision pretty soon. I appreciate all these informative posts. Wayne

6-8 weeks and I'm out on the lake casting for bass. 3 IKEs on the boat! Sweet rods.

Abu Garcia IKE rods are awesome. Give the 70-5 and 72-6 a look.

I've owned many. Surprisingly the Abu Garcia IKE rods fell right into my wheel house. I have two now and another on the way. I also like the Daiwa XT and Team rods.

I'm into jigs. I buy from Siebert now and then. I put these together with his jigs and my skirts. Smoken Good! I use braid with a 15# CX leader with the finesse jigs.

I'm after our large mouth state record.

Hi guys, I think I can add some advice so I'll chime in. First off I have my canoe set up in the reverse for better weight distribution. I think having a 30# thrust trolling motor up front is the bomb. I can get anywhere I want to be with excellent visability and I can cast out without obstruction. The other benefit is a t motor can pull a lot better than they can push, I can get the canoe through some seriously heavy matts, weeds, reeds... As for stability, My canoe hull is a shallow v design. It tracks really well and it's fantastic in rough water, much like a boat. No slapping at all, it cuts well. I can stand and fish in it all day from the back or front. I do use a stabilizer I made when the winds are up, it's easy on and off . Last year I had a 55# Rip Tide on it for power. I installed a Bullnose Rudder on the shaft, the rudder made tracking and steering a lot better in either direction, It also slowed movement left or right at the back of the canoe and most importantly it kept weeds off the prop. I highly recommend the Bullnose Rudder. I place the batteries up front to balance weight, I made 6 gauge cables with Anderson plugs for battery connections. I mounted two triple rod holders to the back side of the motor mount. Easy access and they're safe. My tackle bags are either under my seat or under the yoke. That keeps my floor space open so I can move from back to front with ease. I have two sets of anchor line spools I made, The lines pass thru blocks I drilled out and mounted to the decks. The anchors are weighted dog training bumpers. I have gym mats on the floor of the canoe to protect the hull from wear and it's easy on the lowers. The second seat has been removed, If I take someone fishing I have a padded wooden box for them to sit on. Now, All that has changed.... I haven't decided exactly how I will set the canoe up for this season. I bought a Yamaha gas motor to get from A to B quicker. Some of you have seen this video but I figured I'd post it again so others can see just how good a canoe can be in rough water.

I'm wondering if I can Glue in my Lowrance 5x transducer on the floor of my fiberglass canoe. Any suggestions?

For me it's not about numbers anymore. I'm out casting for Lunkers. My goal is to catch my state record this year. I will be fishing a hand full of tournaments this year, something I haven't done for 25 years. I'll plan, pre fish, assess and compete. If I can get a top five I'll be happy.

This past year I got into top water in a big way.. I'd have to say Dean Rojas. Runner up would be Mike Iaconelli. Humble beginnings. Quite a success story.

I'm not a fan, I had a bad experience with Invisx. Haven't tried another brand yet. I've had good luck with P-Line CX.

I bought another IKE rod a coupe weeks ago. 7' medium, 70-5. I'm all set with what I have now. 9 rods are enough for me to catch as many bass as my ability will allow!

I'm big on Lews reels, I use a Tournament Pro on my frog/toad and flipping rods. I did have a Super Duty for a short time. I didn't see the need for the larger heavier reel. The TP is a great casting and very tough reel. I like Power Pro 65# braid, no leader.
