  1. It is easy to spread. But, there will be tension on it. That's my concern. I'm mounting a thwart rather than a yoke. It will be flush against the inner whales.
  2. This is a fibergalss V bottom canoe. 38.5" wide that is now 38" wide. So the wood is on the canoe. I took a width measurement and the hull is exactly 1/2" narrower than it was with the vinyl. Do you think I should spread it before I install the yoke or leave it as is?
  3. I had the best bass fishing year of my life. I'm hoping 2016 is even better. Caught over twenty 5 plus, one was 9.4 and lost a 10 plus at the boat in mid air when I hoisted his ass.
  4. I'm a little late ... The 74-6 rod is all it should be. I bought a 70-5 today. I guess you could say I'm sold on them. I want to see a Delay series.. A 7MHM would suite me fine.
  5. Buy the reel that feels best in your hand. Any of the major makers build a quality reel and offer a good warranty. I personallly like Lews reels.
  6. I decided to go with wood. Here are some progress pics.
  7. I'm leaning towards installing new vinyl gunnels rather than wood. I suppose I'd be taking the easy way out. Any opinions aside from the wood looking better?
  8. I haven't decided how I'll trim it out.. ?? Pic's are first coat of black and the raw kevlar curing.
  9. I did the filler, sanding and installed the kevlar skids. My nephew is doing the paint work.. he coated the kevlar with rocker panel spray to give the kevlar a nice finished look.
  10. I like the Tournament Pro, I have two of them. There are deals available so do some searching. I saw them somewhere for $119.00. That's a score.
  11. I'm rehabbing my canoe. Something to do and rewarding:
  12. I've been watching Craigslist for awhile. I saw I new listing this morning for a 2.0hp Yamaha for sale. The pics looked pretty good so I contacted the seller. We spoke about the motors history and it sounded like it may be a good find. I met with him an hour later and bought the little bugger. 23 pounds and in great condition. It needs a bath and some wax. It's not a 3.5 but all things considered it made sense. Hopefully I can get 6-7mph.
  13. If it were my boat I would use 1/2"-3/4" plywood depending on open spans. Less weight and one piece.
  14. Looking good! Make it your own...
  15. Look online at www.ioutboards.com The 3.5 hp motors they sell are Mitsubishi made in Japan. They offer both 2 and 4 strokes that are air cooled.
  16. Post a pic, we want to see how it looks now. Congrats!
