  1. I recently bought an IKE power rod, the 74-6 for frogs and toads. It is as described by Mike. I'll add 3-4 more of his rods to my rack this spring.
  2. I've fished with of couple of the new 3D blanks. They're really nice but, the reel seat is tiny and uncomfortable for me so I had to pass.
  3. Its a mental game as much or more as the physical.. Same as any professional sport. Fishing local tournaments is one thing fishing against KVD or Iaconelli is another. We're the JV team.....................................
  4. The only chance most of us in here would have of beating a Pro would be divine intervention.. But hey if it makes you feel better to think you can or even have a chance have at it.
  5. I've been thru the paces for a frog/toad rod.. I finally landed the right rod and eliminated the need for a custom. Take a look at the Abu Garcia 74-6 IKE Frog n Toad rod.
  6. I agree Bill, But even a lower priced rod action has to match the bait and weight and be comfortable in the hand.
  7. I fished with the rod today. Its a total 10. I'm not going to bother with a custom built.. It's that good.
  8. Thanks for the information. I'm passing a the Chinese motors. I'll buy a 3.5hp American made motor in the spring.
  9. I fished with The IKE 74-6 today.. The rods a total 10. It casts with ease, It bombs 1/2oz frogs and the tip is just right for accuracy long or short. The guides and tip are quiet and like glass. If I had a rod built this would be it. The performance and workmanship on this rod is outstanding. I want to buy a 7' MH which is a 5 power, a 7' MF and a 6'6" MM cranking rods. I'm not going to bother with the custom build. In case you were wondering, The paint color is really nice. It's not over done at all. This rod has a lot of class. Abu Garcia and Mike did a great job.
  10. I was looking for a rod on the site too. I emailed them about it and the the reply was we don't stock that model.
  11. Congrats Bob.. Let us know how well its sets the hook!
  12. I'll keep this in mind.. Sounds like I should not consider buying a used motor not meant for today's gasoline. hmmmm.
  13. I was steering/weaving in and out of the surf to keep it on top... It was actually worse here and there, I'm confident in the canoe. The area's I fished weren't like what you saw.
  14. My Abu IKE rod arrived today. I'm really liking it a lot. I put up a review in the IKE rod thread.
  15. The 74-6 rod arrived. The tube was broken.. Thank you UPS .. Fortunately the rod wasn't broken. Its a heck of a nice looking rod. You immediately see the quality. The paint looks super, the guides are really nice, very lean and there's plenty of them. The reel seat is the Fuji ACS which I like, its painted a gloss black, very smooth feel to it. The eva looks good and its not soft or mushy. Pretty comfortable.. I do like cork better but hey it's fine. It's definitely a Magnum rod.. But its got the tip I've been searching for. This rod action feels perfect. I put a 1/2 oz Spro Bronzeye Shad on it and made a handful of casts to targets and hit everyone of them. You could say Wayne's really Happy with that rod and not be wrong! I weighed it twice, the first time it was 5.2oz and the second was 5.6oz. Either way the rod is well balanced and feels great in the hand. I'll be out on the water with it tomorrow casting for Lunkers! Here are some lousy pics I took of it.. If it fishes like it feels I'm looking at buying 4 more of them.
  16. I'm fine with the gear ratio's.. I like the lighter reel too... Plus its more comfortable in hand than the Super Duty. So, we agree.
  17. Thanks Mike I appreciate. The drag washers have been upgraded.. I had that done a couple of months ago. I've been completely happy with the TP reels, just figured if an upgrade would make them better I'd make the changes. Glad I don't need to change anything.
  18. I'd like to come up and throw lines with you.. Looking forward to it this spring.
  19. I take two batteries with me when I'm going to a big lake and will be moving around a lot or fighting wind and chop. I got caught out there once because the battery drained.. That's not happening again. On two other occasions my Trolling motor failed.. Both were no more than four weeks old. MK replaced the 55# each time and upgraded the motor for my troubles. The second time I was stranded I had to call for a tow. That's when I decided to finally buy the 30# motor for up front. Had I done it sooner like I wanted to for fishing reasons It would have saved me a bunch of BS..
  20. He could buy a nice boat motor and trailer for the price of one of those motors. I'd pass on the motor. There's a very nice 14' jon boat on a trailer with a 9.9 for sale near me for $1,800.00
