  1. Incompetence is running rampant.. It's not going to get better anytime soon..
  2. Design, materials, weight, bearings, brakes..I started using bait casters in the early 80's. Back then I owned Shimano Bantams and Bantam Mags. They were the start of the current designs. Those reels were $100-$130 at the time. You can buy a supreme today for $80.00 on eBay that blows them away. Very few backlashes, casting distance.
  3. Theirs another lake near me called a Reservoir and Pond. It's take your pic I guess. It's about 800 acres. Maximum depth is 26'. It's totally different for the 1400 acre lake. I've done well fishing the over hanging trees and rocky areas. Some nice bass in there but not like the 1400 acre pond.
  4. I could buy another Super Duty but I like the size of the Tournament Pro reel so, What would you recommend changing inside the reel if anything at all? If yes what parts would you replace? Where would you buy them?
  5. Bill, I've become a trophy hunter. I want to break my state record. Large Mouth is 10.6 and Small Mouth is 5.5.. I may have had the Large Mouth a month ago. I lost him because I made a stupid mistake. I hoisted him. Like I've mention in other threads, I know where he lives. I'll get em.
  6. I've been on Okeechobee, It is a lot like the 1400 acre pond near me. You're right... I really don't care what the reasoning is.. It's all about the Lunkers.
  7. For a $100.00 he can buy a new reel that's light years better. For $200.00 it will weigh less than half of that old winder.
  8. I bought a shock rod because I like the moderate action and was rated 1/4 to 1 1/4oz. It's has been a good little 6' split grip. I've used it primarily for Spinnerbaits but it's also a good rod for skipping baits and does a great job with lipless cranks. I caught a 5 with it in some medium light junk using a 3/8 oz terminator. The fish burrowed himself in the stuff. I kept him held, when he moved I pulled up on him and cranked him in. The Shock rod did great. I use 40 power Pro with a CX leader. The guides aren't the best but they've done quite well even after being stepped on a few times. No scars. I wrapped the grip and butt with splicing tape for comfort and balance. It's a good beater.
  9. I don't know this rod but the brand has a good reputation. The sic guides are a plus..
  10. The 1400 acre pond is max 8' deep when the water level is up to par. If this body of water was deeper I'd consider it a lake, maybe 20'. Here's a link: http://www.infoplease.com/askeds/pond-lake.html
  11. Nice catch, good luck at the tourney.
  12. I've used Seaguar Red Label and Invisx. The Red label was a decent line the Invisix (bad spool) wasn't.
  13. I'm going for that lunker tomorrow afternoon if the weather is at least decent... Last time out for her the weather sucked.. I got 4 bass though. One was near 5 pounds. This video was a piece of the ride back to the ramp.
  14. Not far from me...maybe an hour. If the weather is decent I may get out tomorrow afternoon. I know exactly where I'm going... I'm hunting down a 10+ I nailed, hoisted and lost mid air 10" from the gunnel. I want his arse! Good luck next time out DB.
  15. Ok here's one for you Bill, I just bought an Iaconelli 74-6.. I got a fair deal but I'll be very disappointed if after my first catch the rod doesn't start yelling, screaming and grip pumping.
  16. If I were to try anything Seaguar it would be Tatsu. They charge enough for it, it has to be good. I've never seen a bad review about it. Sunline's #1 is also expensive. Best way to know what you like is to buy both and have at it. That's what I did with braid lines. It was worth the money and time.
  17. Tell your wife about it... She'll bust your balls about it every chance she gets. You won't forget again. lol
  18. That's dangerous! I'm not surprised to see someone was stupid enough to do that.
  19. There's a pond near me that's 1400 acres.. The depth at max is 6-8 feet depending on the time of year. The middle is for Pick and Pike. The shores are filled with reeds, pads, cabomba, min foils, rocks in some areas on the East side, overhanging trees, inlets outlets, winds mostly from the SW push chopped weeds to the north shore which packs against vegetation. I never fish the middle pool. I'm always in the junk often close to the inlets where the water is clean and highly oxygenated. The bass are super healthy, really strong. I still don't know enough about your pond to tell you much more than to rip a lip less crank or spinner bait over the tips of the growth or throw a frog or toad near the cover areas or swim a jig along the open water edge of them.
  20. I'm using a Minn Kota 55 to push a 14' canoe. With all my gear the best I can get on a perfect day is 4.2mph. The Grizzly would struggle in a big way with a t motor pushing it without gear. You need at least 25hp motor for that boat. The 55 would be fine up front for moving around when your fishing. I use a 30 upfront on my canoe.
