  1. just ordered two powell endurance rods! one 7'1" 4 power casting rod&one 6'10" 3 power spinning rod.i cant wait! I NEVER dreamed i'd own $200 rods.i hope it will be a little nicer than the cherrywood i'm using.Lol
  2. so I haven't had time to order a rod this week(so far its turned out to be really busy week)& I had just about decided to get a HMG but I have found powell endurance rods on sale for $140&the max series on sale for $120.most of the endurance models are for sale&the model i'm interested in is the 723 mh.the one that's for sale in the max series that i'm interested in is the 7'3" frog rod.is the endurance worth the extra $20?if not would the frog rod be too heavy powered for 1/4oz&up weights? thanks.
  3. how often do yall recommend changing mono line? I don't fish saltwater but I do fish around stumps, trees, etc.i use stren original 14lb.been using it since july or august.it looks a little"kinky"&has a rough spot in it but I can get paranoid&i'm very OCD.Lol.been thinking 'bout trying hi-seas grand slam when its time to change. thanks.
  4. my average is 2-4lbs.all thanks to an OLD pond with tons of weeds&stumps.its always had good bass in it.my dad was catching 10's out of it in the 80's so theres been good'uns in it for a while.
  5. the 6'8" would be the falcon Jason cristie sig series
  6. forgot to mention i'm also considering a 6'8" med hvy.
  7. hey guys finally buying a rod I've been talking about today or tomorrow(gotta get a casting one first cuz broke my casting rod boat swinging 2lb.totally my fault).gonna get either a fenwick hmg or falcon bucoo(i'll decide later)if I go fenwick I'm getting the 7'med hvy.but I don't know what model to consider for the falcon.i'm looking at the 6'6"med hvy, 6'10"hvy,7'med hvy or the 7'hvy.i'll use it mostly for 1/4-3/8oz t rigs,1/2oz frogs 3/8oz jigs&spinnerbaits.which falcon model would you recommend for that?
  8. I only suggest 20lb. because lighter than that& IMO you are using an extremely thin diameter line(2lb mono dia.for 10lb.braid&4lb.for 15lb.)that also doesn't stretch so if you really set the hook hard it could snap it being that thin with no stretch.heck I broke off 40lb braid on my baitcaster because of a TERRIBLE backlash.now I do have my drag set fairly tight on my reels so if you set your drag looser then you shouldn't have a problem with 10 or 15lb braid.i also use 20 cause I do fish around weeds& brush &there are some BIG catfish in the pond I bass fish.20lb is simply my suggestion do with it what you want .Lord knows there are others more educated than I am on here.
  9. yeah just about any cabelas, gander mtn. or BPS.they're white now, cost $20 more&called the chronarch.Lol.(that's the "smart a** " answer).about the only place you'll find a curado E is ebay or check the fishing flea market forums on this site.theres a LOT of stuff on there.
  10. POWER PRO original!!bump up to 20lb&you'll be set!
  11. this is the price range of rods i'm educated in cuz I've owned many.berkley cherrywood is nice, lightning rod is more sensitive but I don't care for the reel seat.used the cherrywood as a back up rod today(cause my ugly stik lite finally gave up the ghost Monday boat swinging a 2lb.) &could feel the tail on my havoc grass pig paddling back&forth(caught an 8lb on it today too! ) ugly stik is ok,dont have experience with the new gx2s though.used an original as my crappie rod & was feeling SOME bites in 30ft.of water.if you go ugly stik try the lite its MUCH better.hope this helps
  12. great to see another angler from Arkansas! welcome to the forums! what part of the state are you located?i didn't get to get my hands on the t3 reel&that is a good price but from what I've heard it'd be a step down from your tatula..google daiwa t3 ballistic review.if your set on a daiwa check out the exceller or lexa.if your not set on daiwa check out the lews speed spool for right at $100.i owned one &the worst decision I ever made was selling it.also check out the shimano citica.its a solid reel too. if I owned those setups i'd switch the shimano &abu around & use the 6'6" with the abu for plastics& jigs.the shimano & 6' i'd use for cranks/spinnerbaits&the last for flippin&pitchin.hope this helps.
  13. hey guys went to my local gander mtn. Friday night & looked at most of the rods I was considering.they didnt have the fenwick but I've about decided not to get it since I don't know what material the rings in the guides are.didnt like the reel seat on the 13 or the okuma & the falcon like others have said is underrated&i wasn't fond of that.i found two new&different rods that I like.I got to playing around with the shimano compre & liked it & I also started looking at kistlers&i like them too.the kistler i'm looking at is the TW exclusive pro series.both are on sale right now, compre is $82 & the pro is $98.anyone have experience with either rod? good or bad. thanks.
  14. sorry if i'm hi jacking the thread but are the guides used on the abu rod on the 1st.page the same type of guides fenwick uses on their hmg series? all it says on their site is "deep pressed titanium guides eliminate insert pop out & are virtually bulletproof" thanks
  15. any one else have a tough week? I guess it was the front that moved through yesterday but it seems like it has been a really tough week.i fished every day this week&the best I did was two 2lbs in one day.the week before I was catching 5s&6s consistently on the same lure too(green pumpkin pit boss).this weeks catches were all on different lures(white/chartreuse spinnerbait, green pumpkin jig, brush hogs)so I never really could determine what they were wanting. hope next week is better! good luck to anyone who plans on fishing next week!
  16. I was checking out some auction site listings on the symetre(if you cant tell i'm shopping around.Lol) & I noticed that one of the listings said it came with a box &another listing of the exact same reel said clam shell packaged is there any difference in the reels or just packaging? i know the cheaper stuff gets clam shell packaged but I wouldn't think they'd knowingly sell duds. stupid question I know but just wondering. thanks!
  17. shimano exsence or metanium paired with a megabass ororchi x4 would be my dream combo.
  18. which rod do you think would have better castability a 7'5" mod. fast med. hvy. or a 7' fast med. hvy.? I bring this up because I noticed my 7'3" seems to throw the same bait with the same reel a little further & more accurate than my 7ft.
  19. well I've narrowed it down to these two: the *** black,or the okuma evx.i know both are good rods so I don't think I could go wrong with either one. generally all you here is "***,***,***" & "its the best rod for this price point" so I have to wonder would I be missing out by getting the okuma or is it underrated & just as good as the 13? sorry for the ongoing posts.I feel like I got a little screwed with my last rod purchase. thanks.
  20. I've tried both & I wouldn't get either.i'd go shimano or lew's. worst mistake I made was selling my speed spool for that piece o' crap orra sx 2.guess I could've got a lemon but still.....as for the quantum my cousin has the team kvd&he let me fish it nearly all day one day&other than being a good caster its junk too.its loud, unsmooth,¬ very palmable.(of course that varies greatly from person to person cause everyone holds them different)
  21. Arkansas state record is kinda what I've been shooting for all year! 16lbs.8oz. hasn't happened yet though & probably won't but we all dream about something.... Lol.
  22. that's my cranking combo too! 5500c3&a cherrywood.
  23. I have a cherrywood its the 7ft med.i use it as my crank/rat-l-trap rod and it has held up perfectly.caught a 8.75lb on it the other day&multiple 2s,3s&4lbs. since then.
  24. well if you have $340 halo fishing has fixed insert pop out for micro guides.they're using titanium micro recoil guides which are insertless.they claim they're nearly indestructible&much more sensitive than regular guides......guess we'll see!they got a video up of JT Kenny using it if anyone wants to check it out.
  25. bid on the used symetre has been bumped up to $45 now
