Question About Special Purpose Rod/reel Setups
here's what I generally carry: a 6.3:1 baitcaster on a medium heavy or heavy rod(depending on what company made it) for jigs,t-rigs,chatterbaits,frogs&bigger spinnerbaits.a 5:1 baitcaster on a medium power moderate to moderate fast rod for crankbaits, lipless crankbaits&medium to small spinnerbaits.another 5:1 on a heavy rod for swimbaits(don't use it very often though)& a 2500 size spinning reel on a medium light or medium rod for lighter t-rigs, jigheads ,topwaters &very small spinnerbaits.

Spinning Reel
hahaha. i'm in a good mood so I won't. haha.i'll recommend a shimano saros since your wanting a black one. if grey will work then a sahara, i'm really liking mine so far . smoothest drag I've ever used on a spinning reel in that price range.

Eva Gen3 Revo Mgxe Knobs On A Gen2 Revo Stx?
don't know if they'll fit or not but to get the stock knobs off you pull the plastic piece(go ahead & laugh I don't know the technical term.Lol) that's in the middle of the knob out& then they're should be a Phillips head screw holding the knobs on.if there is no screw then it's probably riveted & if it's riveted you're stuck with the knobs that are on there.

Teach Me To "finesse"
alright guys i'll be honest I have not finesse fished much if at all so i'm pretty much in the dark when it comes to it.while it does get cold(very cold Wednesday night.17 degrees) here,it has never been so cold that larger bodys of water freeze over so I can fish year round.so like the title says can yall give me some basic pointers to becoming a good finesse fisher? what are some main techniques I need to learn? what style baits&what colors? sorry for all the questions but i'd really love to learn how to stick a fat winter largemouth. thanks.

Show off your Stuff
other than the handle being on the wrong side that is one sweet little reel! i could do some serious light jig& jighead/ hula grub fishing with that! the chrome thumbar really makes it

Revo Stx Gen3 Or Curado 200I
curado hands down.i used to be a die hard abu fan.i had their stickers all over my tackle box &all my reels except for 2 were abus, but this new generation made me peel the stickers right off my tackle box. i guess the ones I got could have been lemons but they had issues right from the start. thumb bar would stick, they were loud, occasionally the line guide would get stuck,&the finish started to flake off& before anybody says I didn't clean them, i clean my reels every two months (I fish nearly every day).I do still own 4 abu garcia ambassadeurs my oldest one is one my grandpa gave me.he said its a 1960s or 1970s model& it has performed flawlessly.so i'm not completely against abu but as far as low profiles go I choose shimano.now for round reels it'd be a different story...

Powell Rods?
I own 2 endurances a 714 casting & a 6103 spinning& they are the best rods I've ever used. I haven't fished many high dollar rods but they are my two favorites out of the ones I have. light, extremely sensitive,it balances nearly perfectly with a 7oz reel(the 714)& good craftsmanship(one guide is a little crooked on the 714). I guess my biggest complaints about them is the finish is a little weak,(i have two nicks on the blank of my 714)& the crooked guide but I can get over that. other than that they're awesome rods. Haven't had to use the warranty yet& am hoping I don't have to but I hear their customer service is really good.

How Many Of You..........
First largemouth I remember catching was on a live crappie minnow...so no I don't still have that one.hahaha.the first one I remember catching on an artificial lure was on a 6 in. luck"e"strike curly tail worm in electric grape.i think you can still get them at wall mart...

Best Wall Mart Line
thanks for all the replies!seems like the majority says trilene is the winner.my wall mart does carry red label,832&power pro but I mostly use monofilament, especially now that I have extra fast action rods as my primary rods.ex-fast action plus braid makes me a little nervous.this line will be for both casting&spinning reels.

Best Wall Mart Line
sadly I don't have a good sporting goods store close to me&i don't have the patience for line to be shipped to me(lol) so all I have to choose from for line is what my local wall mart& SMALL sporting goods store carries.heres what they have: stren original, stren super knot, spiderwire ultracast ultimate mono, spiderwire ez-mono,Hi-seas grand slam,Maxima chameleon,Berkley trilene xt,xl & big game & Cajun line red lightnin'.from that sad little list what line would you most likely buy? thanks.

Favorite Spinning Reel
my favorite is probably my new shimano sahara 2500 fe.smoothest spinning reel I've used yet.really good drag too.

If You Could Only Have One Rod & Reel ...
if i'm just bass fishing it'd be a 6.3:1 curado& my powell endurance 714.if i'm going after multiple species(bass,cats,panfish,trout) it would be a 2500 size spinning reel(getting a new one today&cant wait!)&my powell endurance 6103.

What Inexpensive Lure Do You Use That Exceeds Your Expectation And Price Point?
probably my top 3 favorites are the Berkley havoc pit bosses($3),strike king kvd 1.5(got it on sale for $4)& the original wal--mart cheap arkie jigs(can get them for a little under $2).all have worked very well for me.so much so that they've become 3 of my all time favorites.

Daiwa Lexa
x3.i told my dad I was thinking about getting a zillion while they were on sale&he said "not gonna happen".

Shimanos Curados
in my personal favorite order: 1.the I its been my favorite so far. 2.the E.i don't own one but my friend does&what little I've used it it was sweet. 3. the G.everybody hated that this was what replaced the E but I personally liked it. it was no where near what the curados of old were but it was still a nice a reel.could I justify the extra $30 for it over the citica G? probably not but like I said still durn good reels.can't comment on any curados older than the E, i'm too young to remember them& was too inexperienced at that time to be using baitcasters.

Square Bill Set Up
I use a 7'3" med.hvy. moderate action rod&a 7.1:1 reel with 10 lb trilene xt.i really like the faster reel because even though its cold if I know I threw my bait over a log then right before the square bill gets to it I'll speed it up & let it violently bounce off the brush& that seems to trigger more strikes for me.

Abu Ambassadeur Upgrade
Thanks guys.I have no doubt they'll hold up&have held up(they were my grandpas catfishing reels) but I guess I've been spoiled by instant anti-reverse & I just cant get use to the backplay but I do enjoy using them for crankin'reels. As far as swimbaiting goes I think I see a shimano Cardiff 300 in my future!
-
Abu Ambassadeur Upgrade
hey guys I have 3 older Abu Garcia Ambassadeurs,a 5000c,a 5500c&a 5600 c.they all have multi-stop anti-reverse&i was wondering is there any way to upgrade them to have an instant anti-reverse? I would love to turn the 5600 into a dedicated swimbait reel but I'd much rather have instant anti-reverse.if theres no instant anti-reverse upgrades then I guess I now have a good excuse to buy a new reel!

Quantum Catalyst 40Ptib

Quantum Catalyst 40Ptib
I wouldn't know what the problem is but I have to ask,is that a hornet stuck under your line?! Lol

Most Abrasion Resistant Mono?
I tried a spool of that iron silk.bought the 14lb breaking strength.it was very abrasion resistant but terribly stretchy& snapped like crazy even when tying palomar knots(yes I moisten them)don't know what caused it but snapped off multiple t'rigs&spinnerbaits when setting the hook.thats the only time it would snap too is when I set the hook. i'd go trilene xl armor coated or big game.

Recommendations For A Spinning "pond Rod"?
you can probably still find some powell endurances on sale for about $130-$170.i have the 6'10" med.spinning rod& a 7'1" heavy casting rod& i love 'em.my only complaint is the handle on the spinning rod is awfully short.like 12 or 13 inches from butt to the last thread on the reel seat. another rod to look at would be a falcon lowrider 20 made in the usa& the fit&finish on those rods look awesome.and like others have said can't forget about the st.croix avid.
