Powells are great rods very comparable to dobyns. IMHO i would go with a powell, it seems their actions are more accurate. And the value is better at that price point.

What are your thoughts on this reel? Is it worth the price tag? Is there anything cheaper that matches the quality? Thanks

Powell 735 with lews speed spool

I usually run straight fluorocarbon. But I've been persuaded to try braid to a flourocarbon leader. So the question is, What braid do you guys recommend?

HAHA. It's not too horrible. I fish a dropshot everywhere. Timber, rocks weeds open water, you name it. I do different variations of a dropshot from 6lb test to 15lb test. I play with the weight leader length to utilize i different situations. I live in California, so its hard to fined a puddle of water everyone and their uncle hasn't fished. Its better than not catching fish and I like catching fish more than anything. That being said, I am getting better with other techniques and i hope i can figure it out how to fish in different ways.

shaky heads are a good option. but a dropshot will out fish a shaky head any day IMHO

just dropshot. nothing else is needed. it plain catches fish

fish the keys with texas rigged white grubs or senkos or jigs, pretty much anything you can skip under docks.

yup. I got it for about a week and a half...then it turned to pneumonia. It's been a rough one.

This would also explain why there are so many "fads" in bass fishing. A new rig is brought to market and it slays the fish because the bass have never seen it before not because it is superior to any previously existing rig.

Where as finesse presentations like a drop shot are more likely to be effective in the long term
