  1. I'm going with a juvenile Chain Pickeral (Jackfish) although it would be easier to tell from a side view.... Fish
  2. Much thanks guys What ? ....and cover up the prettiest part of me ? LOL Peace, Fish
  3. Sure he does > But what if the guy in the canoe, catches the bigger fish ? I've seen it go that way so many X's, that I'm just not impressed with flashy boats and fancy tackle. Show me some BIG fish, and that's what impresses me Peace, Fish PS, Just a couple days ago, I had a freind telling me about his private pond outing..... They "easily" caught 20 bass in the 4-5 lb range. Sounded fun. "Almost" made me want to go to Clear Lk. with a box of tiny live dads, and the micro-lights (for the same kind of catches).... But in the end, it would just be a bunch of nice 4-5 lb'ers, maybe an 8 or 9, with a little luck. Still nothing to take photos of, or brag about. Private ponds are a lot of fun > but NOT the place for trophy sized fish.
  4. ...but not exactly easy to catch. The giant Red Ear Sunfish, that is I had to work all day for about 25 of them, but as thick as they are, I'd expect about 100+ ! I guess they are more interested in making babies, than eating..... Anyway, brought home 9 of them, for about 13 lbs. But caught / released this big, fat 2.80 lb'er {selective harvest is where its at } I saw several that had to be over 3 lbs..... But unfortunately (as is often the case when bass fishing, too) the smaller males were much more agressive..... Anyway, will be back there in a few hours Come on new PB ! Peace, Fish
  5. Back in the old days, no. I'd be bass fishing in the dead of Summer, and in the middle of Winter, and every once in a while, I'd stick a big one in some of those "off times" too. But after quite a few years of that, and as I get older, I feel like I don't have as much time left to burn like that. Nowadays, I fish at the best times, at the best places, which my years of experience have shown me. Also, I have really gotten back to my roots, as a multi-species angler. I honestly don't care very much what the species is I'm targeting. I do still always try for the big ones though. A trophy sportfish, is a trophy sportfish regardless of the species. Then again, as I have gotten my health back in the last few years, it had better be a good bite for something, or else I can / will go for a few months with no fishing at all ! Don't get me wrong, I'd rather not. But if I don't know of a hot bite for something, I'd rather be mountain biking, hill climbing, weight lifting, photography, etc. With the more years that go by, the more use I try to get out of my days....... Peace, Fish
  6. Much thanks to all of you guys Jig Meister, actually, I let this monster go.... But I did keep 3 of them for dinner, that totaled about 4 1/2 lbs Selective harvest is where its at ! I hope to catch a 4 lb'er someday > and maybe this will be the one ! BassCats, well the lowly "night crawler" of course Fly lined on micro light gear, no weight. Just a #6 Owner Baitholder hook Gotfish, interestingly, this lake is slam full of crawdads, and when I went to empty my live well, I found some partially digested crawdad shells, (that obviously came from one end, or the other, of the Sunfish I kept) yet I have tried tiny dads at this lake (easy to catch by the ramp) and didn't do near so well on them, as I do the crawlers ??? Hmmmm. Okay. Crawlers are easier to keep anyway. Just can't wait to go back. I know their is a 4+ lb'er in there waiting for me ! Peace, Fish
  7. {toughest year ever} At least I'm catching some Monster Sunnies again In the last couple trips, I've caught two straight up Bluegills, that went 1.7 lbs, and about 12". Brought home 3 Bluegills last week (for dinner) that went 4.3 lbs total. Then yesterday, the big Red Ears were finally starting to come up Whooo Hooo ! Brought home 3 of those, for about 5 lbs, for last nights dinner (way less meat, when filleted.... but its ALL edible ) Plus, the 3rd fish of the day was this monster, which went 3.05 lbs on my certified scale, and 14" To be honest, it didn't fight as "fast" and crazy, as most of the 1 1/2 to 2lb'ers do. Kind of sluggish, but none the less, I'll take a 3 lb Sunfish any day I've caught 3 over 3 lbs now....... I sure would like a 4+ ! I know their are a few in there..... Peace, Fish
  8. Hey BTW, here's a shot with a more natural pose, taken the same day as the one above. I think I probably look more like this in day to day life.... Peace, Fish
  9. Tokyo, your doing great bro ! Feels freaking great, to be in great shape, don't it ? Keep it up ! Oh hey, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you ? Peace, Fish
  10. Hey Red, most of my best bass lakes don't allow skiing or jet skis And again, most of the trout guys (the majority) are done by noon to 2pm.... However, even as much as I despise jet skis and ski boats, even on the lakes that allow them (and yes, they are thickest in the middle of the day) I still catch most of my biggest bass during this time. Fish
  11. Some of you guys might find it surprising, but here in Cali, you could easily be on a lake with a good number of 10 to 15 lb trout-eaters in it, and maybe even a real shot at an 18+ FSLMB...... and yet, 95%+ of the anglers, are fishing for retarded hatchery trout, that they dumped in last week, so they could be pulled out today ! Huh ? BTW, do you know what the difference in a 10" hatchery trout, and a 10lb hatchery trout is ? {besides about 9lb 10oz} A few extra years in the swimming pool. But ZERO difference in catchability. If hatchery trout fishermen think 10 lb trout are harder to catch, that's because they release fewer of them into the lakes. Simple as that. A trout could live as long as it could live in that concrete pool, and all it would ever learn, would be what time the food pellets get thrown at them But what they hey.... If you didn't have all those guys out there thinking they were really fishing, we wouldn't have all that high grade bass food being dumped into out trophy bass waters. So I guess its all good Peace, Fish
  12. Well, since I've caught the VAST majority of my double digit bass, towards the middle of the day, with the hour of 12 noon to 1pm being what I call "The magic hour", I often start at around 9 or 10am. Besides being on the water during the best hours, and with a good, full night of sleep, another great thing is that SOOO many anglers think they have to be there before the sun rises, then often, between noon and 2pm, most of them are wimping out and going home, leaving me with the entire lake to myself See ya' ! Drive safe LOL Of course I will then usually fish until it's too dark to see. Peace, Fish
  13. Pretty much my feelings exactly.... although its been quite a while since I even caught a 12 ! On the other hand, I'm going fishing for giant Sunfish tomorrow, and right now, I'm pretty freaking excited ! Peace, Fish
  14. Crestliner Really ? Most people where ??? I'm always amazed at just how many people believe that BS DRUG (alcohol) is totally okay. Just never a problem. Completely socially acceptable. Just goes to show how wrong the general public often is. This is yet another reason I almost never follow the crowds. Peace, Fish PS, Crestliner, "if" you mean to say, they look down at beer drinkers > while they drink wine or hard alcohol... Ha ! That would be completely retarded. It's all the same BS drug.
  15. Thanks again guys. Glade, I can't take creatine .....as it messes with me afdter a week or two. I just eat REALLY healthy, and I eat a LOT {av 4000 cals a day} shoot for 200 gm protein a day. Was eating mostly natural for a while, but back to a whey shake every day too. I workout alternating muscle groups 5 days a week + cardio 3-4 days a week. So if you call cardio a "workout" then I work out about 1 to 1 1/2 hours a day, 7 days a week. To be honest though, it would be hard for me to "not" workout ! Addicted to the pump..... and SO far to go Peace, Fish
  16. Thanks again guys But Sam, 3 years max ? Don't follow ? I thought maybe I had mentioned my 50 year old goal (27 months from now) of being at 225@ 9% BF.... but looking back at the thread... no.... You wouldn't mean like > And then I have made it, then I can kick back and relax... would you ? LOL This is really a "for life" thing to me. I hope to be still lifting in 13 years... more Peace, Fish
  17. Thanks again guys Clayton Every month ? I've been taking a good handful of photos lately, because its been close to 1 year since I took any last. I've been lifting for just about 2 years. Plan to take photos about this time every year, from now on. At my age, I don't expect to see any real gains in less than a year anyway. Don't plan to ever stop lifting, until I'm ready to hang up the towel. The way I am, if I ever fall off of this wagon, especially now that I'm older, I'll be dead in less than 5 years. Seriously. Weight lifting, and this health and fitness kick is what pulled me back from the brink of disaster ! I'd have to be a comple idiot to ever let it all go now ! Peace, Fish
  18. This one took me a minute.... But that's freaking FUNNY ! LOL LOL Fish
  19. Much thanks guys Hey Raider, that was your 1,111 post.... Coincidentally, my first double digit bass was an 11-11 Ever since then, I see that number all the time LOL Peace, Fish
  20. Actually, it was purely coincidence that I happed to have my DSLR camera with me, as I wanted to get some shots of the solar eclipse. I got some pretty cool shots of that..... But 20 minutes later, I came across this !!! A 1 ton, super duty Dodge work truck, pulling a 22 ft ski boat {probably an 18,000 lb package !} T-boned a 1/2 ton Chevy Silverado ! The driver of that truck had already been taken to the hospital. Hopefully he will be okay. At least he was hit on the passenger side, and had no passengers.... The driver of the big super duty Dodge, had his wife, and 2 year old son (in a car seat) and they were all okay. This kind of stuff can just happen in an instant, and even if you live, it could change yours, and your family's lives forever ! I don't care how good a driver you are..... their are just a million idiots out there who shouldn't even have a license... but they do ! Just watch out as close as you possibly can for them. Peace, Fish
  21. I "wish" I looked this swole / ripped all the time But of course I was fully pumped, and my photography buddy took about 120 shots.... 3 or 4 were just okay..... then their was this one I guess this is like the 5 lb bass, that looks 12 LOL I'm just waiting for the day I can get 120 photos taken, and the crappy ones look as good as this one LOL 5 years ? Peace, Fish
  22. Okay... A guy walks into the Dr's office for a physical. The Dr. tells him, just get yourself undressed, and I will be right with you. So the guy sits down and removes his shoes. The Dr. happens to glance over, and sees that the guys toes are all crooked and twisted. What the heck happened to your toes the Dr. asks ? Oh, well as a child, I got "tolio" the guy says. Tolio ?!, don't you mean "polio" ? The guys says, No, tolio... it only affects the toes. So the Dr' is like... well okay. If you say so. So the guy stands up and takes his pants off, at which point, the Dr' notices the guys knees are all crooked, and messed up ! What the heck happened to your knees, the Dr' asks ? Well, when I was a kid, I got the "neasles"... The neasels ?!?! Don't you mean to say, "the measles" ? The Dr. asks ? No... The neasles. It only affects the knees. So by now, the Dr' is thinking, this guy must have some serious issues ! Finally, the guy drops his boxers, at which point the Dr' said... "Wait ! Don't tell me...... You had small cox LOL ~~~~~~~~~ After telling this joke, I usually turn around to one of the guys listening, and hit them with, "You never told us you were having a physical ? LOL Peace, Fish
  23. Man, you should have seen / fished that place between 2000 and 2003 You know I caught the Rancho Seco lake record on 4/10/03 right ? 18.4 lbs, 29.5" length x 24" girth Oh but hey, you got 3 between 11 and 1 ? 11 lbs ? That would be a noteworthy catch there nowadays ? If you want those 1 to 3 lb'ers, live line crawlers to them on a micro light. Otherwise, for big fish from that place, live bait always sucked for me. So I ended up never using it there. Soft plastics for sight fishing. Swimbaits for feeding fish. Peace, Fish
  24. Hadn't check this thread for a while, but did just now... and Wow ! Some very cool catches here I'd be happy with any of those catches Fish on ! Fish
