  1. Yeah I know right. Early this spring I went to dicks and they had the lews lazer speed spool combo discounted to $75 dollars. So I grabbed one and some 50 lb power pro and went to check out. When I checked out the total was a little over $60, apparently it was one of those hidden deals. I'm gonna make sure I load up tomorrow! Haha
  2. Is this happening at all dsg? I'm gonna be there when they open tomorrow, hopefully I didn't see this post too late!
  3. Really and truly it isn't that bad as long as you pay very good attention and lay all your parts in the order they come out. And also like the guy above me said, lay down a light colored towel or shirt to work on. It really helps you keep track of those small parts and prevents them from bouncing half way across the room whenever you drop something. Good luck!
  4. I just bought a daiwa triforce 7 ft medium fast casting rod for $35, and it's an awesome rod for what I paid. The biggest fish I have pulled in with it was 5# and it handled good, I had 6 lb test on my reel so I was kinda nervous to torque on him, but it had enough backbone to keep him turned. And it's actually really light
  5. Hello from wilmington nc! This is an awesome site and you will learn tons of info! I haven't had a question about bass fishing yet that couldn't be answered on here.
  6. You know, mine was acting funny too. I have a tdz 103h and sometimes it would be very hard to move the mag dial and then it would free up and spin easily with no clicks, kinda like it was skipping teeth. I just shipped mine to DVT to get worked on. I didnt send it in for that though, I sent it in for clutch spring problems. I just never thought nothing of the mag dial because I have never owned a another diawa and thought maybe that's how they are. I could take the palming side plate off and see that the mags where actually moving when it felt like it was slipping.
  7. And yes they have plenty of backbone, I landed a about a 10 lb black fish with mine and he pulled harder than any bass I ever hooked. It had enough to keep him under control and away from the bad stuff
  8. With my 6'6" Mf I throw dropshot and weightless senkos. They load up better than a mh-f with the light stuff and really let me chunk em' out there.
  9. X2 on the tourney pro. I love mine and got it online for $50. I mostly use it for weightless senkos and that reel will sling them things.
  10. Caught my first bass on a brim buster with a bobber, hook, and worm when I was four. The first combo I can remember getting was a Shakespeare micro spin and a pack of watermelon seed zoom lizards. I swore by those things till my friend let me fish his 6'6" matzuo combo from walmart. I loved how much more backbone the rods had and how much better they would cast, so I bought a few of them. I still have one and took it fishing the other day and felt like I was fishing with a noodle. I think I made two or three casts and got the lews back out haha
  11. Hahaha that was good! That's about how my luck is most of the time. I just messed with it a few minutes and can't get it to budge, but I'm pretty Nervous use about putting any kind of force to this reel. This things goin to the pro's to get worked on. I really don't wanna screw this reel up because of a raggedy ol' spring hole lmao
  12. Thanks j, how does that collar come out? If I can get the old one out I can definitely get the new one in and be good to go. I've already contacted DVT but if it ain't hard to get the collar out I will do it myself. I really like working on my own stuff, and would much rather do it myself. But I don't have the right tools then I would rather let someone who does work on it.
  13. I forgot to clarify, the spring collar/insert is still in the spring mount hole
  14. Yeah it does have an insert in the spring hole. From the pics I have seen online, the spring looks correct. There is also a part# for it in a diagram I found on daiwas site. Part# G02-1301 (#49 on tdz 103h diagram) I think I'm gonna have to send this one off to get fixed. That spring collar in the frame does look wallowed out though, hopefully it won't take much to get her running smooth again. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys, I really do appreciate it!
  15. Yeah everything is there. The hole in the frame of the reel where the clutch cam spring mounts seems to be worn out. ( the hole is a little to big and the spring wiggles it's way out) I have had this happen before with a field and stream reel, and I just soldered it. But I really don't wanna have to do that with this one
  16. I found the spring!!! Still gotta make her stay though haha any suggestions?
  17. I'm in a state of panic right now. When I got my tdz 103h in the mail the first thing I did was spool it up and take it out in the yard for a few test runs. I noticed that the thumb bar was very very loose, so I took it apart and sure enough, my top clutch spring was just laying in the bottom of the reel. So I hooked it back up (in the right spot according to a parts breakdown I found) and put her back together, and back outside I go. After I pushed the thumb bar and released the spool, I heard the spring pop back out. Went back inside and tore it down once again and was putting the spring back in, when it popped out with supersonic speed and has managed to find a great hiding spot in my house. So my question is, what caused that spring to keep popping out and how can I fix it. I'm going to order a couple from daiwa so I will have one or two for back up, but I just don't understand why that spring wouldn't stay in place. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
  18. I've been wondering about those micro ball bearings. Has anyone tried them? It actually sounds like a great concept, I just haven't heard of anyone actually using them
  19. Yeah I can't wait to get the reels in, it's sounding like the tdz is gonna be perfect for me. I throw alot of weightless plastics and have really been wanting a decent finesse reel.
  20. Yes sir you are reading the post correctly, $55 for all four reels on ebay!! I don't think anyone realized there was a tdz mixed in with the 3 spinning reels. The title of the add was "4 fine diawa and okuma fishing reels" I swear I laughed out loud when the auction ended for $42.51 + 10.80 shipping. I could not believe no one else noticed it. And the tdz actually looks really good, no boat rash or anything that I could see, just missing the handle nut cover
  21. Edit*** 20 sec free spool on my lews after THOROUGH cleaning and lubing
  22. Already been looking at the sv spools! And I surrendered my wallet when I got serious about bassin! How much would DVT charge me for clean, lube, and carbontex? Would they polish the metal drag washers too? I'm capable of doing it myself, as I have achieved over 20 second freespool times with all my lews in Stock form, but the tdz looks quite a bit more complicated than my tourney pro haha
  23. Alright guys, I just bought a tdz 103h, a daiwa capricorn 2000a spinning reel, a daiwa minispin, and an unknown model okuma spinning reel for $55 on ebay. I can't wait to get my hands on that tdz! I have been fishing nothing but lews since I started messing with baitcasters, but recently have really wanted to get into super tuning and customizing daiwas. I'm gonna be starting out with the carbontex drag and Boca bearings, and some polishing. Does anyone have any experiences with the daiwa capricorn spinning reel or the tdz 103h?
  24. I have fished lake waccamaw, but only a few times and 4-5 years ago. It is a very shallow lake, you can walk over a hundred yards off the bank in most places and never get over waist deep. There are some big olé bass out there though! If you want to go out in a boat It would probably be a good idea to go out there and watch boats launch and figure out how they run it. It would also help a lot to have a depth finder.
  25. Yeah the Texas rig has been my go to rig this year, that and the dropshot. And buzzed bait, yes sir! I've been rooting for the heels since I was 5! Haha
