  1. I think for $50 it's the best rod you're going to get.
  2. I have to agree with that. It's definitely much nicer than any $50 rod I've ever felt. I think it performs above its retail of $100, too.
  3. Interesting. I didn't know that. BPS makes very nice reels, though. The JM Sig Series is a sweet reel.
  4. I will do that. If I find out anything, that is. haha
  5. I don't understand why they can't just tell us. I may send out a few emails basically saying that knowing what brand it is would help my buying experience. Might get a little info out of them.
  6. Even if it isn't, I'd recommended just feeling them in the store at least. Very balanced.
  7. I don't know about that. I know the Elite is, but the GSX doesn't look anything like a 13 Rod. Also, the new LE's that are replacing the GSX are the same but with a different color. It could be 13 I guess. I just wish stores would come right out and say who makes them.
  8. Pflueger makes great reels, but I would also take a look at the Lew's Team Lite. Costs $240. I own it and it's a great reel.
  9. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I'm under the impression that Gander is Shakespeare and Pflueger (both Pure Fishing). Also, I believe BPS is the only brand that does their own, actually. Cabelas reels are by Okuma and Daiwa.
  10. That would make perfect sense considering Pflueger does Gander reels. Fenwick blanks are great. The guides on the GSX Tournament are Fuji too, and are very nice.
  11. Yeah, it would make sense. Pure Fishing has been known to do a lot of work for store brands. If it is Fenwick, id be pretty happy. Fenwick makes a great product.
  12. I believe their reels are both Quantum and Pflueger, depending on the model. It definitely could be a Pflueger rod, but then I'd assume it was a Fenwick because Pflueger and Fenwick are joined together by a parent company and even sell eachothers' products on their sites.
  13. They're still on sale online. They may be discontinuing them, so I'd act fast if you want more. They just came out with the new Tournament LE series for $100 (the same price as the GSX) so I can't see them keeping the GSX.
  14. I don't think it's Quantum. The rods seem to be in a different planet when it comes to quality compared to the GSX Tournament reels.
  15. That's one thing that I did find. Just can't find the maker of the GSX Tournament. Maybe an employee would know? I'm not sure.
  16. I bought a Gander Mountain GSX Tournament casting rod not too long ago because they were on sale for $50 when they're usually $100 (they still are). I really, really like the rod and am thinking about switching my whole arsenal to these rods. My one question is: who makes these rods? I've heard a few different things, but I'd really appreciate if someone knew and could tell me. That's all, thanks.
  17. Tournament Laser MG is an Academy exclusive. Tournament Speed Spool is not.
  18. I've never really gotten the round reel thing. It doesn't fit in your hand well and isn't as light as lo pro reels. If I was gonna get a 50 size Shimano, it'd probably be a Chronarch.
  19. Makes sense. I'll keep all that in mind. I am really liking the new looks of the Shimanos in the Curado I, Chronarch Ci4+, Core, and the new Scorpions. The XShip seems a bit overrated if you ask me.
  20. To be straight up with you, no I do not think they are worth it. You're better off getting Hawgtech ABEC7 bearings for $8 than Boca ABEC7 bearings for $25... They're basically all hype, the bocas. They sell them off to reel tuners/ cleaners to get advertisement and add a bunch of YouTubers to their "pro staff" to get a bunch of advertisement. It's all just a marketing scheme from Boca. Hawgtechs will do just as well.
  21. Good points. I actually planned on getting a Shimano (Chronarch E, Curado E, Curado I, Scorpion) with a Hawgtech handle, tension knob, and drag star with bearing upgrades if I sold my Team Lite. I plan on doing a full cleaning of my Team Lite. I know Lew's puts a lot of grease in their reels. I'm going to fish some more with my Team Lite before I come to a conclusion whether to trade it off for a Shimano or not. Really the point of this topic was to see if anyone had used both $180-$250 Lew's and Shimano and to get their opinion,
  22. I've tried a Caenan, don't like it that much. But that's besides the point. I believe a Lew's low end reel is better, but a Shimano high end is probably better...
