  1. Assuming all things are equal in quality the 7,1 setup would be for jigs.
  2. I got a brown yak to look like a log and wear lite blue tackle warehouse longslevee shirts a lot. Figure I would try for every advantage. The debate is simular to the braid to leader or strait braid groups. They may even be the same groups.
  3. This reminds me of story time where Matt Allen talks about throwing Hud''s on a medium casting rod. He lost a great fish but the rod did not brake. There is more to the story than just the weight of casting. Are you going to have the power to set the hook and then be able to keep it pinned... Hate to hear later that you hooked a monster and lost it because you were outgunned. You spend a ton of time working for that bite, maximize your odds and have the right gear.
  4. i see no point in coloring braid. If your worried run a leader and if not then dont. Black is the most visible color and what you run on a jig or worm in low visibility.
  5. i fish in a yak and try to get every rod to do the most. I use a medium fast for cranks because it works with a lot of other baits like spinnerbaits and bladed jigs. I have no place for a glass rod in my inventory, but dedicated cranking guys swear by them. I normally only carry three rods a 7' MHF, a 7'6 mhfm and a 610mlxf. This group seems to be the best diversity for me. I shift out the 7'6 for a 66mf sometimes if i am doing shallow work like squarebills and small spooks near shore....
  6. Let's talk about what's going g on right now. The fish are shallow for the spawn and here in ausing there inches from the bank. Are you casting out into the middle or along the bank. Did your fish spawn this past full moon. They get funky before the post spawn feed bag goes back on. The seasonal pattern I think is the most critical right now.
  7. In my kayak I stay about the one hour mark. In the boat we fish a local tourney trail and the furthest out was about 2 hours. I take the opportunity to fish my vacations or trips and currently I am in Austin a 12 hour trip from home. I don't think that counts as a trip because I was here to visit her parents but I will take advantage.
  8. i like that setup for the huddelston shad bait. The minnow i run on a medium but the MHF is great for that shad. Also consider the small trash fish and hollow body baits like bastrix or yum money minnow.
  9. So i will treat your question just like the way i am currently fishing in texas. This is the first time i have fished here and i have no tired and true lures for this location. I start with a 4" wacky rigged cane thumper which i have known to catch anything from trout to bass, to include crappie and other species. I will cast that in a fishy area a dozen or so times before i switch lures to something like a 4" keitech. I fan cast the area, and if i get nothing or see no fish i move on. A moving bait and a not moving bait will cover what i need to know. You can do this same thing with a worm and chatter bait or a lizard and a spinnerbait. If the pond is small and there are not a bunch of areas to cover then i may be more apt to throw the box at it before i move but in my current situation i have more water than time.
  10. Strike king hooks suck but the xd baits run different hooks. I look at how well the hook is made and if there sharp. Not a perfect system but works for me.
  11. Evergreen is unique jdm but your going to pay more. The jackal poison series gets a lot of love.
  12. The tackle trap has the 2018 xx rods. They come with a warranty from mb usa. All the reviews I read on the xxx is they are below the xx in quality. If you could find the old perfect pitch that rod had a cult following. Is this a one time deal. The slant bridge rods are around and are very special. The destroyer would be my pick in your list great for close quarter pitching on a small vessle like a yak or canoe. Might be a great shore option as well if you ever do that.
  13. It is used and there are many improvement's on the base design. I fish the luna which is based on that reel. The cv-z is the top end version of that reel and is amazing. The club m versions are cool collection reels. I don't fish the base model but nothing wrong with them. Recommend a 250 size.
  14. The rod leash goes on your wrist. You can connect it to the boat when in the holder.
  15. It's the same as rods. Daiwa will have a standard size for its product just like power in its rod lineup. Shimano is not required to build to Daiwa standards, but you could let them know that you would appreciate if they did.
  16. And here I was thinking this was going to be about the Chinese space station crashing into Michigan and how that was going to effect the fishing.
  17. Most wire has maring every foot or so. Some is painted on and some stamped. There is a number and awg next to it. That will be the guage. Technically you can run smaller wire for the same load with higher voltage. I would not rerun smaller, and wire is expensive so most people cheap out and use to small.
  18. That thing has more than my ryoga. It must be the bomb
  19. Spool diameter plays a big role in what size fluorocarbon you want to use on a spinning reel. 8lb is about the heaviest I would recommend unless it really handles well. I use 10lb invesx and it was the best handling streechy floro I have ever used.
  20. Yeah good luck if your in west TN. I have yet to find someone I would trust. The quality of loCal work I have seen would make me send it out either to a kown buidler or factory.
  21. Avid-x 74h works money in that range and can be used for pitching as well.
  22. I tie long leaders and start each outing or Turney with a new one. 7-8 feet will get you through most days no problem. If your dropshoting in deep clear water it's more like a topshot where the leader may be 20-30 feet. I can tight an Alberto in a few second's so in an emergency doing one over is no major loss for time on the water. Others take me much longer but I am sure there a people using other knots that they can tie fast.
  23. Nucanoe classic 12. Great for standing and takes up to 3 people.
  24. My sv103 has brass gears on the 6.3. The big damage to a reel is in the cluch assembly. The zillion and 103 are good for around 3 Oz baits but I top out on mine about 2. My 1-4 baits are on the ryoga and luna is 3 to who cares. A steez I have no idea but I would want to do the testing. I run an ounce or a little over on mine but not designated for heavy work.
