Yeah Ish is in the best mood I've ever seen him in haha. I think watching the bubble boys in the last 20 minutes is going to be one of the best things about the BPT live.

The stream has been working MUCH better today. I've had it going for a few hours now without a refresh.

I watched a bunch of the BPT coverage today and I have to say I was REALLY impressed by how simple they kept it. The camera coverage was quite good and their commentary team isn't bad. JT Kenney is really cut out for color commentary and I was digging his vibe. I think him retiring and moving into the media side of things was a very good move. It was funny hearing him stumble on his words a bit, you could tell he was nervous. He just committed though and plowed through his thoughts I think with them only having to cover 40 BIG NAME anglers, it makes their life a lot easier because they can send their camera boats anywhere they need. The only knock I have on them is how often my feed just "froze" on my phone. I would be watching, then it would freez up, and I would have to refresh the page and watch the Lowrance HDS Live commercial for the 400th time. I think I'm going to have dreams about it. I'm sure they will get this tweaked. I really wish they would live-stream on Youtube because then it's super easy to watch the live feed on any smart TV. Bass and BPT need to take a page from FLW on this one. For being their FIRST event, the BPT seems to have their stuff together. I was expecting a trainwreck, but it's pretty well put together. I like that they wern't trying to over-produce it with tons of graphics, cutaways, or hand-feeding information to people. They just went to the anglers and let the fishing take center stage.

I'm really annoyed they don't have the live replay up anywhere. What about those of us who couldn't watch it all afternoon and want to catch up? I was hoping to sit and watch a replay tonight... but alas it's no where to be found.

Ott Defoe actually did rock Fenwick Rods & President reels for quite a few years. I think pretty recently he switched over to Bass Pro Shops stuff. Pure Fishing has a ton of pro's, but they seem to be with Abu Garcia for reels/rods.

For me personally it goes back to the early-mid 90's. I grew up as a kid in the 80's tossing spinning rods and I held the rod with my right hand, reeled with my left. When I was an early teenager I wanted to try baitcasting (the pro's were doing it!) and I never saw lefty reels on the shelf at my local tackle shop, so I just assumed that was the way you were supposed to use a baitcaster. I had already purchased and been using some Abu & Quantum reels before I even SAW a left handed reel in person. It was too late by then. I was ruined for life. Righty baitcast, lefty spinning.

I totally get it. This is a sport where you can have just as much fun with a Walmart setup as a Loomis. One of the reasons we all love it!

This is a very interesting topic and I have to bring something up. As someone who's owned and purchased cheap gear, and also owned and purchased high end gear... the big dirty secret most "cheap gear" people may not know about is about the giant FAT discounts you can get on high end gear if you have the right pipelines. For instance, most people may covet a Gloomis rod that runs over $400 right? Many shops can give 40% discounts on these rods without blinking, and even more if you buy several. When I see a guy with a full rod locker of high end gear I used to think "oh that guys loaded" but now I go "oh that guys got a good hookup". Nobody pays full price for a rod locker full of NRX's or Dobyns Extremes. The markups on high end gear are quite large, so shops/dealers can really slash the price if you have the relationships. I know guys that get 50% off anything they want because they are frequent customers or they cycle their equipment every few years. Sure a Metanium MGL is $419 dollars off the shelf, but if you call up a tackle shop and tell them you want to buy 12 of them suddenly they become $250 reels. You don't even have to be a 'sponsored' angler to deep discounts on high end gear, just be a guy that a shop KNOWS will be back time and time again and will buy 'the good stuff'. Once you have a hookup to these discounts, you can then resell your high end gear for basically what you paid for it, then turn around and use that money to buy the latest-greatest models with the same big discount. My point is a lot of people get high end gear at mid range gear prices.

Anytime you sell something on ebay just factor in 13% for fee's.

I spooled several rods all with 16LB FC Sniper, and I used the conditioner on a few of the reels.. a few I didn't. I observed the line memory to be no different between the reels after a weekend of use. I guess it's YMMV but people in the industry seem to think it's pretty much snake oil.

I think line spray is 100% placebo. I've talked with a few FLW pro's "off the record" about the topic and they all say the same thing.. buy quality braid/floro and don't bother with the conditioner spray. It's doesn't do anything significant. If you buy good line, you wont find any advantages with spraying it with any of the various line conditioners. I've used it & not used it on combos that are very similar with the same line and notice zero difference myself. The weather may be affecting the line more-so than the spray. Infact that's more likely.
