  2. People are up fishing the river in Monticello and catching a lot of smallies wading. Apparently the bite was great this weekend.
  3. Guess I gotta dig out the ice gear.. *side note: Me and my buddy got accepted into the Wednesday night Greenhorn league! @rascalP don't beat up on us too bad!
  4. https://www.bfads.net/stores/cabelas/ads/black-friday Cabela's black friday ad. $40 for the president LE size 30 seems like a good deal. Nice reel. $40 off st croix premiers isn't a bad deal either.
  5. KVD 1.5 is one of my favorite shallow baits! Great for pond fishing too. @FryDog62 the water on Rum is WAY high right now. Drove past it this afternoon.
  6. Sorry to hear that Frydog. I was out on a metro lake yesterday and the water temps were around 45. Bass were biting, especially on finesse stuff. Got some nice bites on a spinnerbait too. Fishing is still on as far as I'm concerned.
  7. Hah, Dick's site is busted.
  8. Gene took me out on his tracker this morning on some little lake near Buffalo. There was a tremendous amount of downed trees/wood on this lake. Water temps were mid 50's. We tried some stuff that didn't get too many bites, but then Gene started flipping the timber with a craw and started hammering them all day. Bass were up really shallow and right on the wood. Not a bad way to start the week!
  9. Rad, we fished the oepn tournament on Coon a few weeks ago. Were you there? Me and my buddy Josh will be fishing in a ranger reata. Which night/division? We're doing the wed night greenhorn.
  10. My preferred dropshot rig (and most pro's) is either a 6' 10" or 7' medium light rod with 10-20lb braid to a 8lb florocarbon leader. I personally don't use a swivel, just a RP knot to the floro leader. If you're going to be fishing deep, like 30' FOW, i'd have a wide selection of weights to find the one that's going to give you good bottom contact in whatever wind conditions you may face. Go all the way up to 1/2oz (and maybe heavier).
  11. Anyone fishing any clubs/tournaments next year? Me and my buddy signed up for the Greenhorn Bass Tourn Wednesday night league. I've fished open derby's here and there, but this will be my first local tournament "season" with one org. I'm excited. https://sites.google.com/site/2011greenhornbasstour/contact-us
  12. Big & tall guys, Cabelas has their gore-tex bibs down to 99 bucks! Jump on this fast. http://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/rock-bottom-deals/mens-clothing/pc/105591780/c/105642180/sc/105643080/cabelas-gore-tex-guidewear-xtreme-bib-tall/1914424.uts?slotId=3
  13. Going to hit Rum tonight.. heard it's heating up.
  14. Oooh good deal, grabbed one of each. Thanks!
  15. Yeah, I was fishing a really muddy lake in the morning and the bass were really tight into shallow cover. Then I switched lakes to a clear lake in the afternoon and had to go deep with a drop shot. By the end of the day water temps were up to 64! That aint fall.
  16. Dang bluebird skys and 68 degrees! It's funny how it's fall above the water, but below the water it's still sorta summer. We can't get a good water temp drop around here. The fishing was just 'ok' yesterday.. the sunny day was pleasant but definitely made the bass tuck into cover and not get the feedbags on. The topwater bite at dusk got pretty good though once the sun dipped behind the tree's. Swim jigs through cover got me some big bites yesterday. Shallow cranking with a KVD 1.5 did well too.
  17. I'm going to bomb around some lakes in the Monticello area Sunday.
  18. Fished a super muddy lake tonight and we did really well on a black & blue swimjig with a blue craw trailer. Fish were hammering it VERY shallow.. like right up on the bank in 3-5 feet of water. Got a big ole 4lber on a popper too as the sun started to set. Water temps are still like 64! We got fall weather happening but the lakes are still very warm.
  19. My #1 complaint with the plopper is hookup ratio. I get so many awesome bites that result in no hookups.. gets really frustrating.
  20. I really like St Croix for their no-hassle simple warranty. They make quality rods and back them up, and getting a rod replacement/repair is really easy with them. I have a few Avid X's and Mojo's which are great rods.
  21. Too windy to take the boat out tonight so I hit a local pond and fished from the bank. The bass were slamming a brown/pumpkin swimjig. Couldn't keep them off it.
  22. Someone spotted Hank Cherry giving away rods to kids right out of his locker today after the tournament..
