Metanium MGL vs Aluminium Daiwa Steez vs Conquest 100
I'm actually "platooning" a Metanium MGL and a Steez A right now. Its only been a couple weeks and I fish only freshwater. So far, I prefer the steez A for moving baits and the metanium MGL for bottom contact weightless plastics. While both have aluminum main gears, The Metanium feels a little smoother.

Metanium MGL constantly backlashing
What rods are they on, what line type, and what weight lures? I also found on my Mets if I over fill the spool they basklash just looking at them.
- Reel recommendation for smaller swimbaits?

Someone convince me I should be using FC over Trilene XL
If what you're using now works and gives you confidence, stick with it. I like Fluoro and don't have many issues with it. I use a palomar knot almost exclusively and don't have issues with it. 6lb for spinning gear. 10lb for weightless plastics. 12lb for moving spinners and swim jigs, an minimum 15lb for any weighted jigs that are fished off the bottom.

Line For Finesse Baitcaster
10# Fluoro here. I wait for sales and stock up on Seaguar Tatsu. Seaguar inviz-x is also good as wel as sunline FC sniper.

Which "SV" is for me.
I've just recently started using Daiwa baitcasters just to see what the SV spool is about. I picked up a Steez and the SV103. The SV103 is a heck of a reel and is very versatile. I've only fished them both a little bit, but the SV103 is a great recommendation. The Steez is out of this world.

Japan Lure Shop "gifts"
I had a question for those of you who buy stuff from Japan Lure Shop. I've ordered a couple JDM reels from them in the late winter each of the last 3 years. Usually they throw in a pack of treble hook guards or some Jika Rig hooks. I ordered another Metanium MGL last month and they threw in a Megabass FX Knuckle Jr. I was surprised as that's a pretty nice crankbait. Then, I ordered a Steez last week and they included the nicest spinnerbait I've ever seen - the packaging was in Japanese. They always write "Thank You" on the inside of the box, and the extra item they include always has "Gift" written on it. Have any of you guys or gals gotten some pretty sweet 'gift' lures from Japan Lure Shop this spring?

Help with new Casting Setup
Also, the Steez is a $500 reel that came out in the last couple months. While I could afford it, I had a hard time clicking the "complete your order" button when I saw that puppy in the shopping cart. From what I can tell, there are many people on these forums with way more self control than me.

Help with new Casting Setup
I have the Met MGL XG and Steez SV TW 1012XH. I've also had a Core 50 and Aldebaran 50HG. The Steez and the MGL are my favorite reels. I've had the Steez about a week and it is a smooth reel. I can cast 1/6oz Ned Rigs with it on a rod rated no lower than 1/4oz with no backlash. I haven't really put it through the paces yet, but its the first reel I went "wow" when I picked it up. Its on a St Croix Legend Elite 70MF rod - this combo balances very well. The steez is a Smooth caster, decent distance. It feels like the perfect weightless or 1/4oz weighted set up. The MGL is a sweet caster. Had it for a year and the thing is a joy to cast with. I have them on an Avid X 70MF and 70MHF. After trying some Loomis rods, I'm a St Croix fanboy. Love the Legend Elites and the Avid X line ups. I own a couple of each. The Avids fish slightly higher than their rating and the Elites are right on, tho I've never had a MH or H Elite. The Met MGL is really versitile and smooth - definitely worth it especially if you're thinking a MH St Croix. The week I've spent with the Steez SV TW has been awesome, but not enough time to give a fair recommendation.
