The latest sale thread
Just got a DSG flyer yesterday and it looks like they have 2 of the 110 ducks on deal for 25. Plus there is a 5$ rebate for every 25 spent on savage gear lures. So basically 2 for 20

I joined, not sure about my picks again, but can't be much worse than the first week lol.

If you could only limit yourself to 1 rod, 1 reel, and 3 lures ( soft plastics w/ hooks or other lure ) what would you chose
Medium action spinning rod and a reel with 10lb fireline. Lures 5" kalins grub, Rons Craw if have to choose one color and a tube in water red if had to choose a color. Both would be fished on slider heads. Bandit 100 and color would be Firetiger. If not locked into the rigging, I would also use some heavier jigs to more effectively fish deep water with the grub and jig.

Go-to Lure to Entice Even the Most Finicky Bass
Two that are not on the list, a tube and 5" kalins grub I can drag super slow.

Rage Menace Grub convince me I need it
Yes I did and they worked well on a slider for me. The durability in the nose wasn't the greatest, but they caught fish for me. I even picked up a few more packs on the TW Black Friday sale. A nice change up from a tube.

Greatest lure ever made?
Because it isn't old enough, the Bandit 100 doesn't count. I am torn between a 3-5" grub, Kalins if brand matters and the good old tube. Both are always in the boat and at least one of the two is rigged up.

Plastics in original packaging or re-pack?
There are certain plastics that will get semi perma bent in the bag, so those I take out and put in a box. For example, the tails on 5" kalins grubs along with other grubs can get bent in a bag. As you use different baits you will find out which ones can be left in bags and which need to be boxed. I just hate needing a specific bait and the last one in the bag has an unnatural 90 degree bend in it. Other reasons to put baits in a box is you can lump multiple styles of baits of the same color together. I tend to through baits that last many fish so I don't need even 20 worms for a day trip. I have a tube/grub box for example that always goes with me that will cover both stained and clear water.

What's with the new site sponsor announcement
Does anyone know, did Zman leave the boards as a sponsor?

Are these baits a Ned Rig
Pretty sure that is what we are going with and the action seals the deal:) Either that or a 1/2 Zinkerz fly to stay away from the Turd fly option;)

Are these baits a Ned Rig
Sweet, I am hoping that Monday, enough warm weather will move someting up the river, only section I can effectively fish is higher current, lakes are still iced over. Then I will try a few more rigs including a traditional Ned.
-
Are these baits a Ned Rig
Alright, the action is very similar to a TRD it looks really good in the water. I am going to tie some on a 1/16 ounce jig to increase casting distance on the river. On lakes I will be able to pitch this one the distance I need and the one on a jig will give a different drop rate. With the air temp and at 39 and the river colder, wetting a line was my goal, a fish would have been a miracle.

Profit margin on crankbaits
What I found interesting was after Lucky Craft first started selling crankbaits in the 15 dollar range with ease, I noticed Rapala all of a sudden upped the price on their baits a couple of bucks pretty much across the board. Also more recently the increase in the price of Bandits after Pradco bought them. The latter really doesn't make sense since Pradco is a larger company. So some of it is they will price them till we won't buy them, heck I even see this in stuff like the cruise vacations I take with my wife, they are just trying to maximize profit, which yeh many times screws us.

Are these baits a Ned Rig
I love the foam cylindars. I used them on the tail of a tube jig fly to get it to stand up under water. I have also tied this Ned fly with Estaz as well. The estaz Furls nicely and it caught me some nice trout in the fall that were sharing the water with the smallies. http://www.jsflyfishing.com/glissengloss-estaz-standard-size This is where the original idea got me going and then someone did it with yarn instead of the estaz http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=40807&hl=furl

Are these baits a Ned Rig
Feels like it is over now, next 10 days highs above 50, knowing we are going to be slapped back down, enjoying it while it is here:)
-
Are these baits a Ned Rig
Possibly, but I always have been too cheap to buy the tungsten beads and gone with brass instead. Hoping to give it a toss today. Also I think the yarn will soak up water and it may fall more like a salted plastic Ned than the Zman baits.

Strange things that have happened while bass fishing.
I have had many. The eriest is having musky stick their head up out of the water enough to swim around and eyeball you. Coolest was hearing a noise behind me and turning around to see an eagle swoop down and grab a perch off the water near the boat, it was louder than you would think with its wings putting on the breaks. Funniest was watching a turtle try to go up a small spillway to move up the river only to continue to wash back down. The crazy part was watching him, it actually looked like he was having fun and gave up trying to move on and was just enjoying the ride. The I almost had to run home for a new pair of shorts moment. I was fishing on a very foggy morning around dawn from shore where I could see out 10 feet max on the river. Well as the fog was lifting a bit and I casted to a spot I had already casted to many times I saw what looked at first like a person standing in the river. Scared the snot out of me, but turned out to be a Blue Heron. I was very lucky that day that I didn't hit the Heron with one of my casts.

This was my team, and showing you how much I knew what I thought would be my best guy was my worst lol. I thought about Ike and then said nope, whoops on that one.

Current Favorite Lipless Crank Baits ?
Like many others the 1/2 ounce RES and one not mentioned yet the 1/2 ounce rippin rap. The rippin rap was decent, but seemed to trigger less strikes on a day when pike and musky were jumping out of the water to grab the RES. There is a place for both, just need to figure out which is better when.

Is it to late to join the BR group, my first week sucked lol which means I need to pay closer attention to do better.

Bassmaster Classic 2018
I personally wish they would do what they originally did and allow them something like one 3700 bag of tackle, 5 sticks and fly them into a lake they don't know about to fish. Never happen, due to limited fans showing up, but would really test those guys. As long as they catch lots of fish I am happy. When you see a lot of guys struggle that isn't fun to watch. Didn't catch the date, but if it stays later, a Lake Michigan out of Green Bay smallmouth classic would be cool. Nevermind, it wasn't as late as I thought, so WI is out lol. For some reason I thought it was much later, weird that it is the third tourney of the year.

Are these baits a Ned Rig
Yup it's not a material irrelevant, size, and weight thing, the Ned Fly fits that, it's a plastic, size of plastic, weight thing. It is a Midwest finesse rig and will be tossed on spinning gear before our season closes since we have a warm spell. Until this his thread I wasn't 100% you couldn't imitate the plastic, the hard and fast rules are not written anywhere and Zman with the release of the big TRD muddied the waters. This is going to be tossed on spinning gear and the cone head and wire are mimicking the jig head. Unfortunately my options are bead or cone head, they don't make a mushroom head for fly tying;) off topic, but I am trying to tie flies this year I can throw on spinning gear, because small boat two people doesn't allow for the fly rod. As I replied to others, it wasn't clear to me if the plastic could be imitated or not. I might actually tie this on a mushroom head if these don't cast well enough.

What is unusable?
For me it is Senkos, for a lot of reasons, too slow, not economical, don't like fishing lures on a slack line, etc even though I know they catch fish for others. I did buy five bags at a DSG sale recently so maybe I am softening, but I have had 3 other bags for a few years that never got used. Like farmer I have at least one company I won't buy from once I made the mistake of googling some stuff, but as he said they won't care a bit. The only other baits that come to mind for me are any topwater, they hate me, but I still try and have had limited success. The other is the KVD square bills that everyone loves, they just plow water for me. The cool part about the DTs is you can usually find deals, I bought a bunch of them a while back when Gander had them on a great sale and then to top it off you got 20% more off what you could fit in a cooler you were buying. Saying that though I have only broke one that I bounce off the console and 2 casts later I only had the bill left. I just never slap them on the surface to clean them off and they seem to hold up for me.

Bass Fishing Blasphemy
Same for me, Fireline on spinning and 50lb Power Pro on BCs, and never had an issue even in gin clear water, but then again I don't fish senkos so I don't have to wait forever for the thing to hit bottom;) I get that it is a confidence thing for some, but growing up using solar XT on gin clear water taught me it doesn't matter. I do the same, I usually have at least a spinning rod in my truck and fish before or after work 4-5 times a week. My favorite spinning rod is an ugly stick. My favorite bait casting stick is one of those wright McGill blue Clunn rods. If I have to slow down so much I need a Senko, I won't do it. I own some, but have a hard time getting myself to fish them, especially weightless. Scent on everything I toss.

Gander Mountain Closing
For me, we had two smaller Gander Mountain stores, on on the west and one on the east side of town, near two malls. Both stores were always busy, especially the west side store. Then they got the bright idea that they needed the larger super stores off the highways and closed the the two smaller east and west side stores and built the new mega store north of town. The few times we went to the mega store including weekends, I never saw as many cars in the lot as there smaller mall based stores. The mall based stores made a killing on us on our lunch breaks during the week and many spouses hitting the store while the better half hit the mall. It seemed like not long after they started opening the bigger stores that the prices started to go up and the deals were harder to come by. A month or two ago I hit one of the smaller stores I used to love and their tackle selection was non existent, they used to carry a ton, it was really sad to see. The internet thing definitely hurt them too, but at least locally closing two very busy stores was a huge error.

Tearing my hair out looking for a new tackle bag...
I looked at this bag this weekend and it is really nice, but was just too big for what I carry lol.
