  1. I'm going to steal your idea for this year. I never fish jigs, and I think I'm going to start this year since I'm missing out on a large range of fishing tactics, and fish. Thanks for the idea, but sorry I can't help with your frog issue I'm not familiar with them enough to give you advice.
  2. Landscaping, mainly because of the people/owner of the company. I can't count the number of days we said to hell with it and left early to go bass fishin'.
  3. I'm sorry I'll edit my post, G auto corrected to Gary.
  4. I personally can't wait until I'm able to get into rod building. I do love the work though, the marble looks fantastic.
  5. You definitely picked the right place, welcome to the forums.
  6. My wife is to the point that she just rolls her eyes. Surprisingly she's being supportive of me getting into building my own rods lol.
  7. Thank you DVT for your input I did ask and this was the response I got. Our yearly dues are $120.00. $50 goes toward club. $40 goes to IL BASS and $30 to National BASS. Our tournaments are $50.00 for two day and $40 for one day. We also have a yearly big bass pot that is optional for $25 Now this is the only bass club within an hour drive from my house for a meeting place so I'm pretty much either going to join with them, or not join any tournament based bass club at all. (There meeting place is actually three minutes door to door from my work.)
  8. I use 20# on everything I have, I don't ever have to punch living in the north. I also fish for northern, and salmon using some of the same setups so it's more of a heavy braid for them. I do have one bass only rod with 14# fire line.
  9. 5" Bull Shad swim bait, floating hard reel back to the boat and love to watch it just blow up. This isn't my most successful clear water, but it's my most enjoyed.
  10. I've handled a few rods, my buddy absolutely swears by them and has three of them he uses when we go out to cover everything he needs since he never uses swim baits, or heavy jigs. I've borrowed his from time to time, when we went fishing and I didn't have time to pickup my stuff from my house. I will tell you, they are extremely versatile and light weight. I'll watch him throw spinners with the same rod he's throwing worms with a small split shot, then turn around and throw the worm weightless next to a dock. Here is my argument against them. Having used St Croix Legend Tournament Bass rods, and Dobyns Extreme tournaments with an MSRP between 280-330 they are fantastic rods and compare well with the G Loomis. They do all of the same stuff, they are versatile and they have several different models to choose from that you can again, take three rods out and cover every type of fishing you're going to do for an entire day. They're light weight, and weigh in the same ball park as the NRX does. Is the extra 200$+/- dollar the "branding" power of G Loomis? That little bit of weight difference isn't going to matter much, as far as durability goes they rank right at the same. Customer service, they're right there with each other. Don't get me wrong, I love the G Loomis rods, if I could have any rod without money being an issue I would be building my next setup around a G Loomis NRX without a shadow of a doubt, but in the real world I have kids, a wife and bills to pay. So I have a difficult time justify the cost. Especially when I can get high quality St Croix, and Dobyns products with a reel on them for the same price as the NRX rod itself. Again it's all opinion, and I can't say it enough times I am not trying to say this rod isn't worth it. I'm just trying to level the playing field.
  11. I just ordered a revo STX to be called and informed they're out of stock and no longer offering it at the pricing. So I was shopping around and looking for other reels I was interested in trying out, I'm looking at the Duckett 360 Casting reel in the 7:1 gear ratio, but it's righty only! Does anyone have any experience with this reel? Also can anyone find any information as far as when they'll be coming out with the lefty, or know the information off the top of their head?
  12. I'm considering getting a pair of Costas as well, I read many poor reviews about other brands prescription polarized fishing glass. I haven't see or heard anything bad about theirs. The last thing I need to do is buy a pair of glasses to be able to see under the water, for the glasses just to make my eye sight itself blurry.
  13. I can't not own St Croix when I have the option, unless I'm specifically trying something to due using it once from a buddy, or people whom have solid opinions and I've known for quite awhile on the subject. That's just me though, sorry I can't really be much more help than that.
  14. When I think tackle I think bait or gear. Rods and reals are more equipment or hardware in my mind.
  15. This isn't tackle but the monkey is responsible anyway so it's only fitting. Just pulled the trigger on a new revo stx 7:1:1 lefty. It will be here Saturday. No spare rods to put it on so now I have to find something else I like...
  16. Due to my excessive fishing I'm going to definitely do this. Anything over five pounds has got me throwin down some cash.
  17. If anyone is going out this year, whether it be shore fishing or you're looking for a co angler. I'd love to meet new people, try new waters. Most of my fishing is from New York since I lived there nearly all my life. So the waters around here are mostly unfamiliar. Please feel free to shoot me a message if you'd like to set something up whether it be an over nighter, an all Dayer or something in between. Hope to hear from y'all. Good luck this year. (A little bit about my fishing style will be posted below for those interested) I'm primarily a finesse fishermen I dont particularly have much experience with anything besides top water worms tubes or chatter baits. I'll give anything a try and have no issue chipping in for the trip. I fish for any kind of fish but only ever bring one smaller sized bag and two rods with me based on what I intend to target. Anyway hope to cya around.
  18. I throw between 6-10 inch ribbons. I always prefer motor oil but that has to do with being in the north. I also enjoy some pumpkinseed spec colors. I throw them weightless Texas rigged and let them float down to the top of the weed or stump I'm trying to hit then pop it and let it sink again. Or I throw it weighted with a split shot and bump it up off the bottom. Either way seems to produce fish really well, on the right day.
  19. I also do. Being able to thumb your spool while you play the finesse game is highly beneficial. Just me myself and other me's opinion.
  20. I look really good in high heels and pink lip stick. I'm just sayin.
  21. Definitely did once. We were loading the boat at the launch. It was time for me to step out, some ******* next to us decided it was time to power load his boat. I figured I could jump to the dock before the wake hit. I was wrong, very wrong.
  22. What would you guys say is about average for bass clubs? I'm interested in joining but the only active and in my area club is 120 annually plus 40 per tournament.
