  1. Finally got on the water around 1030 am till 5pm this Memorial Day with my son. Fished 12-13 FOW and up shallow at 2-4 FOW. I was going to just put a ZERO as the report, however I did see one dead pumpkinseed. Started out overcast and 68 degrees with the water temp 56-58 in 12 FOW. Shallow was 58-60 Degrees. 5-10MPH winds. Strong winds kicked up- lots of chop. 2-3 foot waves. Couldnt keep position well. Sun came out and warmed up with the strong winds after lunch time. Not many boats as compared to normal or holiday. I could see 9 boats when I was out 1-2 miles from Harley Ensign launch. 2 sailboats. Threw everything at them. Too much wind. Sonar was almost null and void. Everyone I talked to was basically netting nuthin! But, nice day to finally be on the water with my son fishing. Me and my son? Total catch? ZERO. :=)
  2. Yes you use just a little ethanol stabilizer per your gas tank size. You can over dose and it will be fine.
  3. Thanks for the replies. Yes, have whistle and air horn. Seems boat horn never gets used much. Thanks everyone.
  4. Really like lizards. Steams, lakes, rivers. Carolina rig, shake head, Texas rig. Good bait.
  5. Left the anchor down for a few yards while wondering whats wrong with my boat?!! Then it dawns on me just as I see the rope over the side. Stop-pull up anchor. that's like leaving the plug out.
  6. Truly Mercury or Evinrude. Mercury is my choice. Mines 40hp 2 stroke 4 cylinder oil inject and is 24 years old. Solid maintenance and garage kept in Michigan. I sometimes wish mercury or Evinrude built cars!! Hope that helps.
  7. On my 1991 Mercury ELPT, -2stroke -4cylinder-oil injected, I run 87 octane and use a ethanol treatment each tank or even add a little treatment when topping off. A good one is Staybil 360 ethanol and fuel treatment. Check out reviews n videos. Another one is Lucas. Need ethanol treatment to prevent water- lots of articles on this - fuel separation. Must also use if u leave tank full in a below freeze winter. Or long lay up. That's what I do and I antifreeze the engine in winter n also fog carbs for winter. Check spark plugs n change lower gear oil and seals in spring and for winter lay up. Hope that all helps.
  8. What do you feel is most reliable, simple horn with thumb button switch for 16Ft. aluminum? Any experienced issues with horn switch? Wiring issues? Shorts? Battery drain issues? Thanks
  9. agree with way2slow above.
  10. Deka by east penn. You might want to consider separating starting battery from trolling motor which equals a second deep cycle battery for trolling motor.
  11. like it also. have on phone and PC.
  12. Great tips--thanks much.
  13. 42-45 inch is probably the best range. Measure from bow to water and add 12-15 inches. I have a 45 inch 45 lb thrust MotorGuide xi3 on a 16.3 ft Lund. Works perfect and the shaft up and down is adjustable of course.
  14. would like to see it in action on the water. Thanks for sharing. Looks pretty cool.
  15. Some weights for drop shotting, floats, some paddle tail swim baits. Start with one or two baits, get comfortable with technique-presentation to gain personal confidence in the bait before running out and buying more baits or the next latest and greatest.

Note too there are different kinds of weed guards to obtain "weedless". It does definitely help keep the snags from happening. However, some weed guards are better than other and a weed guard can sometimes inhibit a good hook up with the fish.
  17. Wonderful story. Way to go Mr. Tillman. Paying it forward.
  18. Deka batteries by East Penn.
  19. I have two. Tried one day after not getting fish and whammo-fish on. One after another. Next time out nothing. I have the original models, the new models with three sounds, I have not tried. I would like to try this in a controlled environment to see.
  20. Very interesting. Im surprised I never thought of the price per fish that way. But, it is a luxury, pleasure, relaxing, enjoying with friends and family, and just true enjoyment. Though, when I was younger, I had thought of the price per "date" with the girlfriend of the moment, and what "benefits" cost me! LOL. Thanks for bringing it up.
  21. lower to drain. if in cold climate keep it that way during winter. I add antifreeze to my out board here in Michigan for winter and stored in garage. Motor is in low position with the wood under skeg.
  22. I would like to know the answer to this too if you dont might sharing your experience Mr. Wayne P. Thanks in advance.
