  1. Shooting for Friday to get the new boat out to break in the new 115 merc. Looking to go to Morris or Starved Rock, Fri temps should be in the high 40s with sun so????? If we finish with lots of time left in the day I might try fishing the lower dam with some jigs
  2. Amazon has better deals and you can still keep your old combo, I gave mine to my nephews. Only worth it if your buying a high end reel/rod
  3. I just picked up a new 2.1L 115 and was not told of the ProXS but from the specs it is the same 2.1L engine with 300rpm increase. Im thinking different fuel mappings and with allowing you to run a lower pitch prop helps with the hole shot and with low pitch but being able to spin it faster gives you the 1mph. Worth the price increase??? I would imagine in the next few years their will be a aftermarket programers for outboards with the 4s. like they do on cars.
  4. When I had my older boat I bought an aftermarket Mercury mechanic manual and it had the 3000 controller in it. you might find one for your merc and it should have it.
  5. check the water levels and give them a charge and take them to auto parts store and have them load tested
  6. Yes! its a great app. I have it on my iPhone 6 and I set it up as a hotspot for my Ipad. I paid for the subscription and you get a very detailed map. Shows you GPS position ( up to some error but not much) & speed, great for night or foggy days. and allows you to edit the map to current conditions. App 10/10
  7. My fathers retiring this summer and he fig if he's going to be off he going to enjoy it fishing in a new boat. We always owned used boats around 10 years and needed TLC. Now its all new and just fishing.
  8. My father is also my fishing buddy, when it came time to buy a boat he aways puts up the money but I try to pay for everything else, fuel, food, gear, accessories, and I'll even drive. I fig over the last 33 years of us fishing and having fun for most of the years he's been dishing out the big bucks that I can pay for everything else. I use the old boat more than my father did and just recently we got a brand new boat that I couldn't even come close to paying for he was happy to do so and he told me the boat is equally yours as it is mine and one day it's going to be yours. Im sure our fathers love fishing with your and can care less about who pays.
  9. Little story I was on a family trip with the guys to Lake Shelbyville that we rent a house boat. I was standing at the back deck dropping a line when I was called by my father to the front. Happens to be a two guys on their boat asking if we had pliers to cut a hook that he had in his hand. The hook was a 2 Ot and was hooked really good into this thumb, I at the time did not have any cutters on me but I did have a simple first aid kit. My dad told him that I was a paramedic/FF and my uncle was there and he's a ERCN RN and we could help. Well, I tried to remove it carefully but the pain was to much for the man. I told him the only way thats coming out it to cut his skin or finish pushing it through, I offered to give him some liquor to take the edge off while I pushed it out or have his buddy drive him to the ER. He took the ER route... I wonder what happened to him?????
  10. What Minn-kota did you go with. 12v or 24?
  11. I have an 150g reef tank display and 40g sump, old pic but I have lot of corals and 10 fish from clowns, gobies, tang, rabbit fish, chromes, shrimps,
  12. ops your right Feb 13/14 haha that would of been bad to show up this weekend lol
  13. Tinley Park fishing show next week!
  14. Nice boat! What Merc did you go with? look like a 4s 60/75/90?
  15. Im only a medic because is mandatory with any full time position
  16. I'm a Firefighter/Paramedic as well. I carry a very basic kit for others, carrying a BLS kit with air adjunct and other treatments can result in malpractice here in Illinois even with the good Samaritan law. Sadly... so I don't risk it. For my fishing first aid. I carry the basic kit with a gauze rolls, 4x4 gauze pads and one trauma pad, and 500ml normal saline for cleaning cuts, eyes, and what ever. Not going to say I do or do not carry IV equip and or other treatment for my own personal use. A basic kit with the addition of NS and gauze works great.
  17. From what I see a 17p-19p spitfire or SS Some guys are doing 4 blade 17p but they're looking for more lift with a lot of fishing gear. Thinking when I get it fully loaded for salmon and walleye its going to slow me down with down riggers, kicker 9.8hp nissan, and 3 other fishing buddys
  18. I did some reach from Walleyecenteral.com and other sites. seems with the Alumacraft 175s and Sports with eh Yamaha or Merc 115 4s have a average speed of 42mph with two guys. Im interested in seeing when the new 2.1L has over the 1.7L I'll find out friday when we take it to the river to break in the merc.
  19. I would suggest nothing less than a 1/2ton SUV or truck.
  20. I agree shotgun is the way to go. I have a Mossburg 500A 12g with 18.5 barrel and tube extension. I use "00" or "000", with that your can shoot through most doors if the intruder is trying to kick it in. If your worried about using 00 or 000 you can use bird shot, I know everyones thought of using birdshot but being a firefighter/paramedic Ive seen/heard stories from others of gun shots and one of them was a 12g bird shot to the back, it's very disturbing what it will do in close range. All you need is a few pellets going between the ribs and hitting a lung and collapsing it. I promise u when someone can't breath they panic.
  21. I have a Omega Pro Z03 and its a great reel.
  22. I play some guitar self taught, but I do play the banjo. I mostly played Blue Grass and some new songs but I haven't played in some time.
  23. Right now its has a Alum 17p 3blade. yeah fig the boat weight with a full tank at 6Lbs/30 gallons. so 180Lbs. and 500 is for us. Mercs prop selector said a 17 should put us close to 50mph but I'm fig prop slip/wind/temp of water and air. Putting the errors in I fig in the mid 40s. I would like to put a 3 blade SS for the strength and better cupping or a 4 blade alum for midrange but in time will tell what we will want.
