We have another hs tourney on Sunday, so I'll report about it Monday. Anyone got any tips or know if they are getting on the beds yet?

So me and my dad went to Rayburn saturday and caught 20, then tried Paulo Gaucho Sunday morning before we left. We shot across to the Hines Creek area. We started off pretty good, caught 3 quick at the opening of a smaller creek with rattletraps and cranks. We kept moving along, and after that it was like the switch turned off. Nothing we would throw would entice a bite, and we only caught 3 more the whole morning. The biggest one we caught was in our own cove lol. Our biggest problem was locating the fish. Tried humps, points, mouths of creeks, shallow creeks, and didn't see too many come up on the electronics. We still haven't figured out the secrets of Paulo Gaucho, so if anyone would like to share them or a better way to locate fish there, I'd greatly appreciate it.

One of the teams from my school got 2nd place with 22 ish lbs. We did decent enough, caught quite a few on a 6xd or 8xd (can't remember) 8-15 fow. Lost 2 fish over 5 pounds and the lure lol. But overall a fun weekend - the weather.

We have a HS fishing tourney this weekend, not as familiar with Big Sam as Toledo. Any advice?

Favorite Rod Brands/Models to use?

Ok, so I'm on my HS's fishing team, and nearly all of the tournaments are at Rayburn, which unfortunately we're not very familiar with. So we decided to go try and see any spots we might try at the tournament in February. There was showers on and off all day, but it wasn't too bad, and the day had looked promising. We pulled out of San Augustine's boat launch and went to a point nearby. But just as we pulled into our spot, the switch to our electronics shorted, so all of our electronics were rendered useless. We continued to fish a group of trees that stood out in water, and I immediately got bit on a rattletrap, but after that, nothing. After a while we decided to go into the adjacent cove, but we had no idea what depth was under us. We spent some time over there but to no avail. The morning was looking bleak, so we decided that our best bet would be to fish visible structure/cover since we didn't have a good idea of what was going on below. We went to the bank of the cove and trolled into a small cut. There my dad caught 4 fish quickly off of a green w/ some flake wacky worm, and I caught one flipping a blue/black jig w/ an orange grub trailer under a small tree. Then the monsoon came and we decided to head home. Its crazy how blind I felt without our electronics when I hadn't ever used them before 3 days ago!

So I get that spinning rods work well for this, but how bad is it to not have a finger on the line like you would a baitcaster?

We went to Rayburn on our trip last weekend, too. So are Rayburn report's forbidden or should I go ahead and tell?

Thanks, and hey Catt, I've got a question. So obviously this winter is a "tad" warmer than the usual winters, and since we base our techniques off of water temps and not necessarily seasons, would bass still be in a fall pattern? I mean in our area the high for Christmas is literally 81 degrees, so the water has to be fall temps at least right?

Also what are all of yalls favorite winter baits?

Haven't been fishing in forever because of school, but we just got ourselves a new boat and we're up here at the bend trying to figure everything out. Yesterday evening we went out to the mouth of Paulo Gaucho fishing the coves. We threw a lot of stuff to see how they would react, only caught 1 small one off a blue/black jig w/ trailer. This morning we went to 6 Mile and fished at the Point around humps and points about 20-30 fow. Couldn't get anything off drop shot or jigs but jigging spoons seemed to work way down at the bottom. Probably gonna hit Paulo Gaucho again tonight, Rayburn tomorrow morning. Any tips?

I know that there is also Crappie.com, and Im on that as well, just looking for as many opinions as possible.

So I have quite a few baits that I have little to no faith in. Some of these include jigs and all top waters sadly. So how can I build confidence in these?

Well I've just gotten back from a pond, and tried to catch some panfish but to no avail. Tried to throw a white and blue roadrunner and not a bite. I even cast right to where little perch were hitting the water (it was 7:45-8) and still nothing. Advice?

So I recently asked what bass fisherman would do when you couldn't buy a bite, and many of them said that they would break out there panfishing tackle. So can someone tell me the basics of what they would do to attempt to catch some panfish and how?

Great replies everyone. So most people seem to enjoy bringing panfish tackle when bass are slow. So how would you go about fishing for these panfish if the bass were Lockjawed?
