  1. I would consider one of the lighter weight reals may feel/balance better with lighter lures. Not sure of all the weights, so maybe the Aldebaran?
  2. I put a Conquest BFS (a little heavier than your Aldebaran) on an NRX+ Inshore casting 6'6" medium light, fast action rod that works well. I only had a chance to cast it a few times, so my opinion may be a little premature. My rod box won't handle longer, or I may have entertained the 7' version. Not sure of the weight but casting the small, short weightless fluke on a thin Mustad worm hook (#22) got it out there 50' or 60'. I think I can loosen the spool a little with more time. It's not a "buggy whip" trout rod for 1/32 ounce, but I like the combo so far with what I tried. On edit- model 781C. Rated for 1/8 to 3/16 and 8 to 15# line
  3. Seems what I read before was go to Texas or Mexico. I don't even entertain catching one in Ohio.
  4. You may choose by speed. Do you want to go 40, 50, or 60 MPH (give or take a few).
  5. I have One original Calais DC and three current Antares DC's. I also have two Calcuta Conquest, One Calcuta Conquest BFS, One Aldebaran, and a Revo Beast. I sold a Revo STX, Revo Rocket, and Curado DC. (just to show I have and tried a variety). The DC reel will greatly reduce and most of the time eliminate backlashes. Especially the Antares DC's which Shimano claims to be their most sophisticated to date. Look on Digitaka.com and see if the price is in your budget because that will be the best for what he wants to accomplish.
  6. Just an fyi. Most any AGM that you don't discharge more than 50% and recharge as soon as you get home should last 7 to 12 (based on 3 die-hard AGM) years. Also keep it on trickle charge when not in constant use.

  8. Hedgehog carries a lot of OEM and aftermarket parts, handles, knobs, and end caps of various styles, sizes, and materials. Maybe something worth looking at, if you haven't already?
  9. When I opened this, I got a prompt to translate to English. 10. Every time I have tried something other than stren mono, I was disappointed. But I like the stren magnathin the best. For a change for you, I would recommend magnathin in a lighter strength for those lighter lures.
  11. I put on a couple of coats of semigloss polyurethane. Still feels good and only have to do it once. It will clean easy and not get pits from filler coming out.
  12. I have and still use the original Calais DC. A year ago I bought 3 Antares DC's from Digitaka (Japan). I sold all my other bait casters except 1 Aldebaran that I put a shallow spool and Hedgehog bearings for a BFS reel. I wanted to try that due to the centrifugal brakes on that model. I had 1 Corado DC, a Rocket, and a Revo STX that I occasionally backlashed and wasn't in the same league as the Calais or Antares that I never backlash. The DC part does work, and my vote would go for the Antares and skip the lesser models.
  13. Search EBay for "Bass Pro Shops Extreme baitcast reel" and you may find it. No need to enter a year in your search.
  14. It will make it easier for YOU to put a strain on it against a snag or too big of a fish because you will have more leverage. The strain being if you catch a 50# fish (or a snag, etc...) on a reel that doesn't have the components to handle it, it will suffer damage (gears, bearings) no matter the size of the handle. With a longer (larger) handle, heavier lures with high resistance will feel easier to reel in (I may have that backwards, it may be harder), so you may like that. But your hand will travel in a larger circle.
  15. Still have and use an original Calais DC and a couple of older Stellas. Also, I had a mixed bag of medium value baitcasters and spinning reals. Then in 2022, I sold most of those and bought 2 Antares DC's, 2 new Stellas, 2 conquest, and I Modified a Shimano Aldebaran that I had with lightweight spool and Hedgehog bearing to use as an BFS reel. I found I would rather switch lures on better reel than use a lesser reel (so to speak), and that led to wanting more, better reels.
  16. After reading a lot of reviews, and trying boca orange seal and full ceramic, I ended up with hedgehog studio bearings. A lot of people (casual and enthusiast) where claiming them to be the best. And only shielded on one side allows for easily adding a drop of oil and cleaning. I used them last summer and am very happy with them.
  17. Thanks, that worked.
  18. I am not new but this seemed like the most logical of the forum options to post this. Does anyone know how to change the avatar? I am not finding a way in profile or settings and would like to update mine.
  19. Just wanted to credit and thank the forum for my PS31 finding a good home!
  20. I am giving mine away free to someone who can pick it up and would use it. I want to find someone who would enjoy it and not take it to resell. I keep an eye out at the docks when I go for someone, then I saw your post and hoped you were close. I wouldn't recommend paying much for one (maybe 2 or 3 hundred). You may know that there has been 2 models since them (LVS32 and then LVS34). I upgraded through those, and they are worth saving and waiting for. But if can get the PS31 for cheap, then that would be ok in my mind.
  21. The panoptix software is in the transducers. No black box needed. I would say since you are going for the front of the boat to get the PS31 and start with it on the trolling motor shaft and see if you like it and if you would then keep it there or invest in a separate pole for it. If you are sure it is compatible with your unit and any chance you or someone you know would be able to pick one up in cental Ohio? I have one but don't want to ship it (sorry for that).
  22. I have two that I rigged for spider rigging/drop shotting open water for crappie. My boat has side by side front chairs, so I wanted me and the wife to both have a screen/transducer. They are both on the same pole (usually at a 90* from each other). I turned one to perspective mode for casting the bank for bass and it does work well. Need to spend more time with it and focus on seeing fish to tell you how well it works though. You can see it behind me in this pic-
  23. I don't worry about the newer lithium's. I have 3 Ionics in my boat, 2 cell phones, 8 Dewalt, 4 solar light posts, 4 sets of perimeter alarms, 1 Stanley flash light, 1 Dyson vacuum cleaner, 1 Worx leaf blower. All lithium's, no problems with any of them.
  24. A lot of times it seems a thru hull transducer is to get a reading while on plane, and you may want to consider that before moving the hook 5 to the front.
