Pre-spawn has been treating be well!
As of today my season totals are 31 bass, with three 3lb+ and three 4lbs+. That would be my best ever! And it can only get better from here. Cant wait for that first 5lber, and hopefully I'll break my record of 6lbs. I've been getting all the bigger ones on a combination of jigs, T-rigged lizzards and spinnerbaits. If its cold and sunny I throw a slow jig. If its warming up I throw a Gambler 7" lizzard and they love it. If its warm and cloudy I throw a copper spinnerbait and slow roll it. Heres one I got today, along with five others smaller. I did fall into a muddy swamp and got covered in pond scum, but it was worth it! http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=180169745&albumID=1148095&imageID=28873591 And I got this one the other day in the pouring rain, on a buzzbait, much to my pleasant surprise! http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=180169745&albumID=1148095&imageID=28782074 Going out tomorrow morning for more Tight lines Matt

Don't you love these guys ??? :-)
HAha yeah I know how whats that like. I had a city slicker tell me that he caught a 12lb bass out of this couple acre pond. I was like "Wow thats a nice one.... do you know what the state record is?" To which he answered "Yeah like 20lbs right?" I gave a chuckle and told him it was 10lbs 14oz and hadnt been touched in 30 years. Then he admited to not having a scale, but he showed me the picture. It was around 4lbs, on a gooood day, full of eggs, with a 2oz lead weight in its mouth. ;D

Economy=/
Economies come and economies go. There isnt a lick in sense in worrying about it. Just do your best, and if you like eating meat, pick up hunting and raise some pigs. And if you like eating vegetables and fruit then plant yourself a garden. And if your really smart buy a few acres of farmland while the buying is good. Seems like the ways things are headed soon Americans wont be be consuming 30% of the world's resources, which is a good thing IMHO. They'll see what its like to live like every other human on the planet. Maybe it will knock some sense into them. ^^^VERY TRUE Food on the road is insanely expensive! At WaWa a good sandwich, a side snack, a piece of fruit and a drink cost around ten bucks! Screw that!

I just got back. I cant believe it. I was fishing Lake Assunpink here in NJ, for the one hundredth time. This lake has been known to hold some lunkers, but I never have really gotten anything nice out of it. After a few hours with no action whatsoever, I was twitching a jig in some structure in about 8 feet of water, from a canoe. Felt some weight, then a throb throb, and WHAM hookset. It all happened so fast I can hardly remember it, but when she surfaced I, no joking, almost fainted. My friend lost it. He almost went hysteric. She didnt fight hardly at all, probaly still rather inactive with the cold water. I had her in the net before you could say jack robinson. I was sick with the thought that I might loose her. Up she comes, and I have never felt so weak in the knees before. On a very trust spring scale she came in at 9lbs 14oz, just 12 oz off the state record. I didnt say a word the whole time, I was speachless. After she swam away I sat down for several minutes to gather myself. The first thing I said was a long loud heartfelt "YAAAAHOOOOW" that I reckon was heard clear from the pine barrens all the way to the deleware. I was still rather shakey, infact I got shaky just writing about it. Took 4 pictures, and back she went. I'll give more of the fine details later, I'm already late for work! We also got a video of the release, wich I'll also have up. Here are some of the pics! http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/pbbass.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/pbbass.jpg Gotta run! I hope the boss will understand!

Early spring foggy good stuff (video)
Me and my friend went out on sunday in the fog and drizzle. Didnt get anything huge, just a 3.5 - 4lber and a bunch of little guys. But the water is still really chilly so we where surprised at how frisky they where. Copper spinnerbaits in the clouds, cant beat it with a ugly stick. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=54976921 That video should work.... btw the song is Foggy Mountain Breakdown, one of my favorites. =-) Toodle loo MG EDIT Had to fix video link.....

Fishing in the rain?
Me and my friend went out in the rain and fog yesterday and slammed them on copper spinner baits. The water is still really cold here but they where very active. Biggest was 4lbs and we caught a bunch. The sun came out after a few hours and the spinnerbait hit stopped. So we tossed on some shallow cranks and caught some more. Rain is certainly a good thing.

A nice and big, juicy, tender 10" Powerworm in black or blue, fished extra slow, with a 1/8 ounce bullet weight, T-rigged, with a large fry on the side. Yum .

What frog for Heavy lilly pads
Haha I had one of those years ago. That thing had hook ups similar to a a treble hook......with all three prongs cut off.

What frog for Heavy lilly pads
I think its safe to say that the SPRO Bronzeye is the best frog for the money. The Bronzeye Jrs are softer, thus you have an improved hook set ratio. I just got one of those new fangled high-falootin Bronzeye Popper frog, seen here: http://www.***.com/descpageSPROBAITS-SPBPF.html It is a BEAST. Most frogs dont really stir up alot of water. This thing has a great popping action (just about as good as any other popper you can get) and is completely weedless. I'm very impressed! If you want to invest in a more expensive frog I'd recommend the Fish Arrow Cover Jack. Since frog baits just about never get snagged, you might as well get a really good one because it will last forever. http://www.***.com/descpageSWMFISHARRHDTLOBINA-FACJ.html The interchangeable blade makes a sweet wake when fishing lilies. However in the sloppy stuff it gets hung up. When you have the skirt on, it "walks the dog" quite well. This gives you two different weedless frog actions that the slop bass probably haven't seen much of. This bait cast foreverrrrrrrrr. Good hookups and very durable. Besides, they are on sale! =-) I think the one I got before cost me like 17 bucks.....

Humane fish dispatch...
Just fillet it. If kept out of the water they should be brain dead by the time you get home.

Good start to the 2009 season! 3 for 3
Well truth to be told its been some time since I've wet a line. Hunting season started back in September and that's when I stopped fishing. So after six months of going without the smell of bass on my hands, I was eagerly waiting for spring. Saturday was 75 degrees out! All my buddies had something better to do (or so they thought) so I went out by myself. Still a little ice on the water. Fishing a T-rigged Gambler lizard. (which I love) I got one missed hit, and one not missed hit. It turned out to be a nice 3-4lber! I was pumped. Sunday was 65 degrees out. I went out with my friend Jedd. As is my early march custom, I was hopping a jig along the bottom real slow. After a few hours I managed to pick up a nice 4lber, and it was the only hit all day. Sweet! Then yesterday It was 55 degrees and I went out and fished for a hour or two. Caught three 2lbish guys. Nothing big but still a good time. First three days went just fine! Surprising for this early in NJ. Lets see what today holds in store!

Build a beginners bass tackle box
Top; Good old jitterbug in black. Cant beat it with a stick. Crank: (jerkbait) Rapala Xrap. Best lipped lure for the money IMHO. Jig: Craw or dark colors 1/4 ounce. Spinnerbait: 1/4 or 3/8 ounce colarado blades, dark or chartruse skirt, best brand you can afford Plastics: A bag of Senkos and a bag of Powerbait. Dark colors work best yet again.

Zoom trick and finesse
Last year I caught alot of bass T-rigging trick worms.

To Peg or not to Peg!
Isnt the whole idea of a bullet weight the fact that it slides up and down your line? I think it helps to not peg. If a bass picks up your bait he wont feel weight intill your setting the hook, which is too late.
