  1. Thank you sir, I appreciate the input. I will try that.
  2. Hello everyone. My buddy and I are in a pretty big jam. We are fishing the FLW College National Championship on Wheeler at the end of the month, and my boat is in the shop currently for some fixes on the engine, and it will not be ready in time for the National Championship. This is the biggest tournament either of us have the opportunity to be involved in, because as of now we do not have a boat to fish off of, even after asking just about every contact we have up in our neck of the woods(Michigan). It may be a shot in the dark, but is there anyone on the forum here who may let us run their boat from May 25-June 2? Or does anyone know someone who might? I am well aware beggars can't be choosers, but if the boat had half way decent electronics we would greatly appreciate it, because we are used to running water where you would have to try to bottom out a boat. Feel free to call or text me. (734)-751-8035, thanks guys.
  3. I spent a lot of time fishing on Intermediate, however I never got over to Torch, or Skegemog. Both are lakes I will need to be making stops at, I know about the quality in Skegemog. What about Torch?
  4. I would recommend registering ASAP, because tournaments will fill up quick and you will get wait listed. BFL's are true Pro-Am's, and the only obstacle is drawing a boater who is unfamiliar with the body of water, or front end's you.
  5. Awesome! I'm itching to get back out on the big water, and catch em' like that!
  6. Michigan is somewhat underrated as far as fishing! Love some Lake St. Clair, as well as Grand & Long Lake in Alpena. I used to do a lot of fishing over near Traverse City, but haven't made it over there in quite sometime. Anyone fished the torch chain in recent years?
  7. Your electronics don't lie! The top picture is showing fish that you were either idling over, or they were moving themselves, arches are fish moving in/out of your sonars range. I'm assuming the second picture you were stationary. It is hard to tell what these fish are, bass don't necessarily group together but they will stay in the same general water column, especially when feeding. This could be any kind of fish, however crappie will definitely stack straight up and cover a pretty big column of water(i.e. 5ft-15ft). Odds are you are looking at bass, or something else that may school in that body of water.
  8. Cover water. Our natural lakes in michigan don't have much contour, so a 1ft drop can be a big deal. If you have the ability to know whats below you I would start on the first structure off the first drop, weed clumps, stumps, etc. Otherwise get on a bank and go.
  9. Every waypoint i drop where i caught a fish i mark it with an abbreviation of the lure/date. So for instance, Dropshot on May the 4th, DS504. Whenever I travel to tournaments I have a book that when I get home I write down the conditions and go back through and take notes on each waypoint, so if I ever go back I'll know if that spot will be a player or not. I can actually remember specific CASTS on certain docks on Kentucky Lake, verbatim, because of the log. So they definitely work!
  10. You're going to have to be hitting bottom with a crank bait.
  11. depends what you are fishing for, where you are fishing, etc. Fish generally relate to structure and are either caught super deep or super shallow. They don't roam in these types of conditions, normally. If you know where structure is, fish it thoroughly. If not, fish the obvious.
  12. Awesome, I appreciate all the info guys.
  13. Whats your favorite dock/piling bait/technique? Looking to try some new stuff.
  14. I have a tournament on the Chesapeake Bay in mid September, I've never seen it before. Any information that could help me would be great appreciated it. Please Personal Message me. Thanks!
  15. Thats how I have it set up, Lowrance at the bow and the bird up front. I appreciate all the info guys!
  16. Whatsup everyone. I have two graphs on my boat, a Lowrance HDS 7 G2 and Humminbird 1199 HD Combo(Weird I know). I want opinions, what palette do YOU use? On my bird I have no trouble seeing structure, but on my Lowrance sometimes I have to look a little harder. I've toyed a round a little bit but not too much. Just want some opinions. Thanks!
  17. Very possible. I live right by Lake St Clair and Lake Erie, two well known fisheries. But my PB was caught in a lake most people don't even know. Small lakes hold big fish.
  18. sloooooooooooooooooooooow dooooooooooooooooooooooown. Largemouth have a slow metabolism, they get lazy way easier than smallmouth. Smallmouth sometimes aren't bothered by cold snaps. The big thing is to just sloooooow down and fish your areas.
  19. Running 3-5 foot waves chasing brown fish
  20. I'm a hair under 20 and when I was younger I was so addicted to getting sponsorships, almost to the point I forgot what fishing was. Crazy right? Sponsorships are important, but not when you are fishing a Youth Club Event. It hurts, but its true. They come in handy when you are preparing for a tournament and are spending money on things you do not want to spend money on(Gas, Hotels, Oil, Etc). Than they throw some stuff at you for a trip. If you can land a sponsorship at a young age, all the power to you. Its a great foot in the door and one of my biggest sponsors has sponsored me since I was 15. Kids should reach out to companies but to help, not to take. Work goes along way in the fishing industry. You don't get what you don't earn. My message to kids looking for sponsors is, remember why you love to fish. I love to fish because I love to catch fish. When I was 3 I never dreamt of wearing a sponsorship jersey, just catching fish for a living. So kids, just fish, and the sponsors will come.
  21. Work hard man. Win some tournaments, build a resume. The bigger the tournaments you fish, the more likely someone will want to sponsor you. Do not focus on this side of fishing. I'm assuming you grew up loving to catch fish, not wearing a jersey with logos on it. Fish first, and the sponsors will come. Trust me.
  22. check out Alpha Rods. They have a lot of rods geared towards shakey head fishing. Not to mention their spinning rods have a lot of components found nowhere else in the market. Some of there rods are pricey, but once you get one if your hand you won't want to put it down. All of the rods you listed are valid choices as well.
  23. The importance of Youth Fishing is something I didn't realize until I was done with it. The first bass I remember catching was a 3lber on snag proof frog when I was 3, yeah what a way to start. I started club fishing at the age of 11 and the people you meet and fish with in clubs will teach you things about fishing you can't learn by reading online. Clubs, the TBF, SAF, and other organizations get kids that critical thing called, Time on the Water. Time on the Water is the key ingredient to becoming a great angler. So if you are a kid and want to fish and get on the water, join a club. You will learn unconsciously, meaning you will learn and not even know you did. Having the ability to fish multiple bodies of water will make your learning curve explode. The past few years I fished a few spots a way from Northern Divisional's, this year I fished my way to the SAF National Championship, and I give all the credit to the club I fished with, and my dad. There is no reason anyone else can't do that, the knowledge gained fishing around the country is incredible. One last thing.. phones, video games, iPods, etc. don't bring you nothing but a bill. If you are going to pay for something, why not put gas in someones boat to take you fishing, or fishing supplies? So be patient, persistent, and shut up & listen. Youth Fishing truly is the future of our sport.
