  1. I honestly just wanted to have 1 bluegill lol. The ones at my across the street lake are HUGE! I'll be lucky to catch one under 10 inches and i don't want a crowded tank.
  2. 1 and 2 look like bluegills or possibly hybrids. 3 is a green sunfish, 4 looks like a flier or something, and 5 is a LMB.
  3. I have an old 55 gal aquarium with filter, lights, heater, etc. And i have been thinking about possibly keeping a native fish. I have bluegill in mind since they wont outgrow their tank and i can literally walk across the street and catch one. I've done plenty of research and am seriously considering it. Any tips from people with experience?
  4. Carp would be my best guess.
  5. Caught this 11 1/2in bluegill just a couple of days ago. That pond has monster bluegill in it and for me they are easily the best panfish. They pull hard and lots of time i was expecting a decent bass when i pull up these guys. Almost thought i had a PB when i hooked into this guy lol.
  6. A couple days ago i caught this guy at my local lake. There are monster bluegill there from about 10-12 inches. This guy was only 11 1/2in with 12in being my PB there. However he is the thickest and heaviest bluegill i've ever caught. I've always been wondering if there was a state record in there and i honestly think there could be. I don't have a scale so i can only guess his weight. The state record is 2.95 lbs. So how much do you guys think he weighs? (I really should get a scale shouldn't I?)
  7. Depends on what type of fishing your doing. But for beginner baitcasters i'd suggest braid.
  8. I'd suggest a bucktail jig. You can get a pack of them for a dollar or two and they work very well for me.
  9. I'm not allowed to kill them. Just catch and release.
  10. I am still trying to catch one of those darn Grass Carp that live in my pond. Today i caught them feeding close to the bank and threw my wieghtless corn rig out there but no luck once again. I used a circle hook with no wieghts or anything and covered it completely with corn. I even got it right in their face a couple times but they didn't even seem to notice it. I've tried bread as well but i can't get it to stay on the hook. So what's the catch? (No pun intended)
  11. As mentioned in one of my previous threads i have gotton some surf gear so i can go surf fishing. (12 ft spinning rod w/ 15lb mono.) I just have that fear that i will cast out and leave it sit there forever with no bites because as they say 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water. So... Where is that 10% of water? I've researched reading the waves to find sandbars, troughs, cuts, etc. But it seems too simple. I don't like the idea of using lures in the surf so i'll stick to shrimp or squid on the pompano rig. So my questions are where are the fish and how long should i wait before moving to a different spot?
  12. I fish from a pier with little current except for the boats that come off the ramps there.
  13. I have a nice little spot that i visit often that has a lot of good sized Flounder. The problem is they are kind of a rare catch since i only use Shrimp as bait. I would like to catch them because they are good eating fish and would help me practice filleting which i just recently learned. So what lures do you guys use for Flounder?
  14. Ok i am TIRED of catching Pinfish! I need some lures that can catch me the gamefish! Whether it be Redfish, Snook, Seatrout, Flounder etc. Just ANYTHING that isn't a Pinfish! Please reccomend effective lures for saltwater. (I don't have a boat but this shouldn't stop me from catching good fish)
  15. Interesting. I have a new life goal!
  16. Interesting. Thanks for the info!
  17. I was fishing in a small muddy pond using a bucktail jig expecting bass but i ended up catching a lot of blue and channel catfish! Another guy there showed me how to hold them and turned out it was really easy! Lol still suprised they took the jig though.
  18. Oddly enough we tried some hot dogs but caught nothing. Then i went to a small muddy pond in west virginia (was on a road trip) and threw a bucktail expecting to catch bass or trout but caught several blue and channel cats and one small bass. Lol so much for smell.
  19. I've heard people talking about golden bass or golden black bass etc. Before but i dont know what they mean. I've also seen a youtube video where someone caught a bass and said it was a golden bass. Is there such thing as a golden bass or golden black bass etc? If so how rare are they and are they actually a species or just an "albino" bass?
  20. We were using about a 7 foot baitcaster rod with at least 20 lb line and 8oz sinkers. And it was way stronger than any bass or anything else i've caught. i think it was a shark because someone else caught one there and it tried to go under the boat as well. There were also remoras in the area. My fish was probably twice the size of that shark.
  21. Yeah ive heard that too but he just said, "Keep Reeling!"
  22. Yesterday i went on my first deep sea fishing trip on a charter boat. We went out and i caught some sea bass and snapper, but at one point i hooked into the biggest fish ive ever fought. I battled it for a few minutes until it started going under the boat. I tried to pull it out but it was too strong. Of course the line broke. Later in the same spot another person hooked into a big one and landed a 3 foot long Dusky Shark. I think i may have had one twice the size but it got away like i said. I'm not sure if it bit through the line or cut it on the boat etc. But i think this is something good to learn since i plan on going on another charter soon. Also do you think this was a shark or what? (There were also remoras in the area so it was definetly a sharky place.)
  23. Yeah theres alot of articles you can read here. In my pond my go to lure is a Bucktail jig since i catch alot of bass on it. Any lure can be used for good results if you use it right. But personally bucktails are my favorite
