  1. I like using my ultra light rod for poppers because i feel like i can "pop" it better. For crankbaits a M/H is better. This is just my opinion, bass don't get much bigger than 16 inches at my pond. So using an ultra light isn't as big of a risk as it would be somewhere like Lake Fork. Just use what you feel works best. Nothing is set in stone.
  2. I would for sure use fly gear if i had it. I'm stuck with spinning gear however. What lures would catch trout as well as Smallmouth? Buffalo Lake has Smallmouth and i want to catch them since it is too warm here in FL for them.
  3. Thanks this helps a lot. I have a 1/16oz white roostertail. I also have 8lb line so i guess i should pick up some lighter line. I happen to also have a gold johnson spoon that is 2 inches long (idk weight). I guess i'll have to take risks if i want to catch trout... Luckily i'll also be going to Buffalo Fork Lake near Elkins this year. There i will feel more comfortable. I have heard that jerkbaits work well there, and i happen to have the rapala floating minnow.
  4. Well i go to West Virginia every summer. This year i got completely wrecked by the flowing water of the streams. I ended up losing about 5 jigs trying to catch trout. The worst part is, i didn't even catch any But next year i'm out for revenge. I've gotten some Roostertail Spinners and some spoons. My concern is though, i can't lose them in the rocks like i did the jigs! I learned pretty quickly not to cast upstream, but sometimes it doesn't matter. What do i do??? Also one more thing. I've heard that the Rebel Wee-Craw is a good lure for trout? Is this true? Because i happen to have it
  5. In winter i go fishing. Y'all should really try Florida XD
  6. I say you go get it. Bigbill could be right...
  7. Well today was interesting... Went fishing, caught a bass on a popper and then realized something. My popper was missing a treble hook. I hoped it was somewhere in the bass's mouth but alas, that was not the case. I knew i had 2 hooks when i made my cast. The split ring was missing too. What the heck happened? Hooks don't just dissapear off lures like that XD
  8. Thanks everyone. I figured it out now, the spool was in the wrong direction. Now i can go fishing
  9. Ok i feel really stupid having to ask this but here goes... I need to spool up one of my spinning reels. I tried but the line went into a crazy birds nest as soon as i tried to cast. I tie on a slip knot and then crank the line on tightly like you're supposed to, absolutley no slack as it is reeled onto the reel. Despite my best efforts it always tangles up. What the heck am i doing wrong???
  10. Unfortunately i don't have an exact address. However it is right in between Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale so it wouldn't be a long drive at all. There are multiple other canals around that area (and around Okeechobee) i just mentioned the C-14 canal because it was the first place where snakehead were introduced to the US. If you ask around you could probably get better directions considering how well known the canals are in that area. Sorry i couldn't give you any better information. I live in the Daytona beach area and have never been that far south. Good Luck!
  11. You may want to try around the canals there in south florida (ex. C-14 canal) There are some decent bass there and the opportunity to catch snakeheads and peacocks.
  12. Ok i should probably mention that my pond is only about 4 acres and there are no other bodies of water connecting to it (such as a stream).
  13. I agree on them being good quality. Some of my biggest bass out of the pond have been under the spillway.
  14. I've been wondering this lately. At my home pond there are a few spillways since its used for sprinkler water and stuff. Whenever i go fishing there i always make sure to dip my lure into the spillway to try and draw out any fish. Suprisingly there is about a 50% chance of something being there. Although its hard to sneak over there without scaring them out of hiding. Anyways it's gotten me thinking if bass are perhaps territorrial or something like that. Do they have set homes? Maybe they just wake up each day and choose a spot around the pond to camp out and wait for food. Could someone shed some light on this?
  15. He can have whatever he wants... If its bank fishing with no fancy gear i think i could do ok against him. Especially if i get to choose the battle ground. It would be fun to even try though
  16. Well it could definetly be a stick. Did it move and how big was it? My best fish related guess right now would be a snakehead.
  17. Todd Gurley or Randall Cobb? Jets D or Rams D? (Week 9)
  18. Yup he was croaking like a frog.
  19. Ok i give up
  20. Well, I've sadly never caught a redfish or anything like that. So i may be overexaggerating. But ethier way it was definetly the strongest fish i've ever caught for it's size. And was definety an upgrade from my 5 inch lane snapper
  21. I went saltwater fishing today with my friend. I caught 2 tiny lane snapper at first. But then, i thought i had gotten stuck on a rock in the water . Until the rock started moving!!! This thing literally made me think i had my first redfish on my ultra light 8lb test gear. I was so afraid that my rod or line was gonna snap. However, i noticed something odd. Whatever i had on was keeping to the bottom, i thought maybe i had a huge catfish or something but then.... I caught this 11.5in creature. What gave away its identify were the huge "wings" it had. I really wanted to catch an edible fish so i could teach my friend how to fillet a fish. He wanted to release it anyways mainly because we didn't know whether it was poisonuos or not. As a matter of fact i didn't want to touch that thing XD. I just got a quick measure, then held it over the water and popped the hook out of its mouth with my pliers. So has anybody eaten sea robin? Are you still alive and if so how did it taste? That thing fought like a tank though.
  22. A YANKEES fan??? I thought you were a fellow Patriots hater in the Road To The Superbowl thread. (Note: I'm an Orioles fan...) But at least your not a patriot fan
  23. The Royals knocked my Orioles out of the post season last season. So..... Lets Go Mets! They're definetly kicking butt at home here in the 8th. So lets go ahead and make this a 2-1 series!
  24. Cape Canaveral is close to the mosquito lagoon (name is a lie btw) which is the redfish capital of the world! Definetly take a boat out there if you can (lots of guides there too) but if you're stuck on land try going to the Haulover canal which is definetly the best land spot around.
  25. Lol i live like 2 miles from the indian river soooooo...... Your really gonna want to have a boat or kayak to get out there in the flats, unless your ok with catching pinfish (sailor's choice) all day. I don't know anything about fly fishing but i have heard it works ok for redfish. However if i could have one lure it would be a super spook jr (preferably bone). Work it along mangroves and you're likely to catch a snook. Fall is prime time for flounder inshore. They can be caught on Gulp Shrimp (preferably new penny) in the 3-4” range. You could also try dropping mangrove crabs near piers and catch yourself some sheepshead. If your unsure in any situation, live shrimp is a reliable bait for any type of fish. Hope i helped!
