  1. Umm I'll say this i have a 7ft ugly stick I paired with a budget reel and I can feel Bites with that way better then I can with my ultra light crappie poles and those are nice two piece rods. Plus you don't have to worry about hook sets and the pole coming out hahaha those are classic
  2. Lews speed spools are nice....I lovey orra winch but that's my crabkbait reel Only. Maybe a Abu Garcia pro max? Read reviews look at their hardware and remember do use reviews Ailey bc there's always going to be someone who hates it and had a terrible time with it. And truly think about how your going to be fishing bc it only took 4 months of heavy Matt punching and frog fishing to destroy my Abu Garcia pro max reel. Just sayin lol. Just do some research. Find what you like and we can help narrow it down
  3. I'm stuck on a ardent f700 or the Helios but I like the tatula..... Well I have till wensday and then I'll order one of those lol
  4. Welcome buddy Yea I started with a 7ft basspro tourney special and its light with great sensitivity for being 50 bucks. And then I put that together with a kvd reel a friend gave me and I started catching fish but it was. 5:1:1 and that ration sucked for me so I got a Abu Garcia pro max reel and I never looked back. Read articles man, practice and enjoy. Here's a few hints to help. 1. Vary your retrieves on each cast and let the fish tell you what they want. 2. When you catch a fish pay attention to what you were doing and recreate it 3. Was there a specific kind of cover where you caught it? 4. Don't crazy with colors.... You'll Boggle your mind keep it simple. 5. If you don't have a boat like me. Fan cast but concentrate more on being perpendicular to the shore... This keeps you in the strike zone longer and you'll increase the chance of a fish. Have man and feel free to ask more questions. A lot of info and articles on here. I've been reading the forums for almost two years before I joined and I've stepped up my game so much. This is a great group of people
  5. I love creature baits for this but I enjoy either a d-bomb or a paca craw
  6. Tackle warehouse had the 4th sale and I lit the add to cart button up with these ..... Almost 2 bucks a pack I think I got 20 bargain 6 different colors. I do great with the green pumpkin and ole hover craw color
  7. I like the river to sea spittin wa.... It's a popper frog and I have lots of confidence in pop-r's so I definitely gained a lot in frogs with that and now it's a color thing for me
  8. I believe it.... I start with a 3/8 jig most of the time and nothing heavier unless wind is an issue. But most of the time I find myself throwing a 5/16 and just rail fish and it's always on the fall
  9. I've said it so many times as I've learned a lot from here and Matt Allen. When it come to jigs, keep it simple you only need 4 base colors. Your Browns, green pumpkins, black, and watermelons. I used to have a billions colors and never caught a thing.... Now I went with that advice and say you want to get that green pumpkin watermelon flake you can use that jig trailer to do that. I'd rather spend 20 bucks for a couple of 6pks of trailers then 20 bucks on jigs and only get 4 jigs one each color. I do the same in Plastics. In clear water I throw natural colors... Greens, Browns, junebug, watermelons. In stained I like to stand out a bit and throw a natural color but maybe a more dominant or just enough chartreuse color to grab their attention. In muddy water I like to throw a black based color but I also throw all chartreuse. Hey if it works for me at night, why not in muddy. When it comes to hard baits..... Aged old saying match the hatch. I like my baitfish colors And imitate bluegill a lot. And for frog fishing I use three colors.... Black, chartreuse, and white bottoms. I keep it all simple and I've done good for someone who doesn't have a boat, new to tournaments and has legitimately bass exclusivley for the last year and a half... This makes two
  10. How much drag? Bc the ardent is rated at 22lbs
  11. So guys I finally had my reel take a crap on me bc of the heavy crap I've been fishing in. I was looking a at a okuma Helios or a ardent f700. Any others I should look at and my budget is about right there no further. Thanks guys!!
  12. I however will retire this to my pre spawn box.
  13. Ok guys.... I love doing reviews and I have a big list but right now I'm doing big bites baits 5in and cabelas brand and bass pros brand. I will tell you my success has been phenomenal. So being a man that believes in the theory that big baits get bigger bites... Especially during pre spawn. Here we are post spawn conditions and when it rains or a storms coming.... You can best believe I'm cruising the shallows for a biggin. So I decided to throw a bass pro 7 1/8 watermelon red stick bait and let me tell you. I can tell you smaller bass were hitting this like crazy but couldn't get it in there mouth. I could see them take it. So I moved down a bit and pitched towards a big log and bam 3.5lber. I like these and if you tear... You can always cut the bait down to size for a small but fatter stick bait for a Texas rig. Anyways I did however catch more fish with the big bites baits. I wish I had thrown them on the this specific day.
  14. Hey buddy I fish in the wind all the time.... If I'm jigging, spinners, cranks.... I always toss a 3/8 oz and let the fish tell me what they want and then if it's windy I'll throw a 1/2oz. And remember bass will position themselves goings against the wind.... I like to retrieve it a little fast then normal and give them less chance to look at it and get more of a reaction strike or bump it off structure... And I will also receive it normal or slower to see if that's what they want to.
  15. I had a nice atlwast 5lb plus fish run with my jog and I started pulling her through the weeds and she dove down and I felt the line go slack and I had all weeds. I thought for sure when she jumped and I got her back down I had her but no....
  16. I was learning tog fish on the weed edges and I was getting nothing but little dinks all day and they just popped my jog and ran like hell .... Sharp light wire hooks barely needed to be set (meaning I wasn't power swinging) and I set it decently but not like normal.....and she didn't move at all and she came to the surface and back down into the weeds and she can off as I pulled her through the thick ****
  17. That's why I jig fish.... A lot.... Strikes are from healthier bigger fish usually in the 16 inch range but then again I get bored fishing alone and bring a cat pole with me while practice at the lake.
  18. I've seen cheaters....local catfish tournament
  19. I got two new rods and reels and that was a total of 300 plus line braid in 20-50-65 mono fluorocarbon and mono plastics **** I think close to 500
  20. Yes sir it was a bed fish. I'm always looking for new places to fish so if you ever want to try anywhere new or someone to fish with.... Hit me up.
  21. It was just a tad over 7 so I say 7lbs and it wasn't west o now that I think of it it was at walnut creek off 370 in papillon and if you ever get a chance and are near it try it or shadow lake on a really crummy day with a jig. But if it's weedy and mossy... Don't waste your time unless you have a boat. But regardless both have monsters in them.
  22. Hey my two PB were not in private or far ponds but public water... The biggest is my profile pic in Nebraska in west Omaha.... Flipping on a day where I was done as soon as I heard the first crackle of thunder and I was just poured rain on.
  23. I like to hook set at an angle.... I reel down feel the rod load up and set game and match.
  24. I agree I can't catch a d**n thing with carp spawning in the area in fishing
  25. See I know there are carp and some big ones in the lake and I do hear them flop all over the place those I know are carp but I can't help but think perhaps there are some that are bass. But I suppose I should call the don't and ask what the forage is in that lake and see if there are shad of some sort. Healthy population o crappie and bluegil for sure. Bigs cats and big carp. Only seems handful of wipers though. Thanks guys
