  1. My 703 fishes like a solid medium. I would also suggest the 703 over the 702 because most of the baits you listed while light weight often have a stout hook and the 702 would struggle to get a good hook set. Also as stated above Dobyns arent the most senstive sticks at the higher price points but the Sierra is really good at 170.
  2. For a $100 spinner you wont do any better than a Daiwa BG. I have always liked Falcon rods thought they gave good bang for the buck.
  3. The only reason I want the 7'6 is the full handle vs split grip on the 7'2.
  4. I was able to fish the 7'6" light power Recon Elite. IMO it fishes on the heavy side of light but not a full ml, also having talked to a Phenix rep the new Recon Elite has a faster taper than the M1 and it noticeably faster than the older Recons. My next rod is very likely to be that 7'6" for river and creek smallies I think its freaking perfect for em.
  5. For a 100 dollar reel you will not do better than the Daiwa BG. I had a previous gen HMG and felt it was a good value at $100 but you can find it for less than that new if you shop around. Amazon if your friend on both of those btw.
  6. I agree I am really surprised at how different some of the set ups are!
  7. So much win in this pic.
  8. So I have been bitten by some strange bug where all I want to throw at smallies anymore are tubes. I just love bouncing them along and pow feels like it gets grabbed by a train. So what do you guys use when tube fishing? I am currently using the following rig: Dobyns Sierra 703 Daiwa BG 2500 10 lb lime green 832 with 8 lb mono leader Also I know this isn't the fishing tackle forum but if you guys want to list certain jigs, tubes, and colors I wouldn't be unhappy but if mods say no I can create another thread in the tackle forum.
  9. I had the same balance issue with my Dobyns Sierra when I had my Stradic FK 3000 on it, I put a Daiwa BG 2500 (about the same weight as the Procyon) and it is worlds better now. As far as hook keeper goes I find myself just hooking it on the frame of the first guide more than using the hook keeper itself.
  10. If you are mainly going after specs go with the ML. Also try to find something in a mod/fast action. The Lews LI-MLS70 is a VERY good trout rod. If you really want the E6X I would go with the E6X 842S MF.
  11. This is coming from a spinning reel stand point so take that for what it is. No one has better gearing than Shimano and from my experiences they will out last all others by a good margin. That being said if you cant afford to go with at least a Stradic then you should probably look elsewhere.
  12. I would go down to a ML or a L. St Croix has a 7 foot light power in the Eyecon series that is a great stick for the really light stuff.
  13. After having used the 832 for about 6 hours yesterday the digging faded a ton with use. I have a tendency to spool line really tight when putting it on a reel and in this case maybe to tight. By the end of my trip yesterday the 10 lb 832 wasn't digging at all on the portion of line that I was using. Yes the lime green is awesome!!
  14. While I very much dislike the line management associated with the 1000 size it should function the same as a larger reel given the lure weight is within reason. My FK is butter smooth and if your Ci4 isn't I would take it back because it should be.
  15. I have used 10 lb Power Pro on a 31 inch Redfish so it can take a beating but I don't know about a Sturgeon
  16. Perfect line choice for that set up in my opinion.
  17. I just put some lime green 832 on my 2500 BG and it casts really well. It does dig in to itself a bit more than the Power Pro I am used to. If I had to do it again I would still like to try the 832 but I would have gone with 15-20 lb. Also it should be noted 832 is thicker than Power Pro given the same lb ratings. 10 lb 832 is the same thickness as 15 lb Power Pro.
  18. Any 7 foot ml or m power spinning rod will work. I personally use a 3000 Stradic FK with 10 lb Power Pro for all my inshore fishing in Florida and Texas. For mainly a trout rod I would want a mod/fast at the fastest as they do have fairly soft mouths and same goes for flounder, for reds a fast action would be fine.
  19. So far no issues with 15 lb Power Pro. I picked mine up having used a buddies extensively this year and so far I'm very impressed.
  20. For $100 there is simply no better reel currently available than the Daiwa BG imo. It is a fraction over 9oz though.
  21. Pretty sure the original and elite tat are the same blank with both being a step above the Cronos. The orignal tat at 100 bucks is still one of the best rods for the money imo.
  22. You can cast even the largest swim baits on saltwater spinning tackle. Now how comfortable it would be is likely another story.
  23. After having fished with a buddies almost all year I had to pick one up. This reel is by far the best I have used for 100 bucks and it pairs with my Dobyns Sierra 703 pretty darn well. Daiwa BG 2500.
  24. I have caught 25 inch redfish in grass on a ML rod and those things can tow a bass around like a tug boat. A ML rod can handle and pull really large and powerful fish if you fight them aggressively. I personally select the power of the rod I am going to use based on the hook I am going to use. That being said I also only fish braid which makes a whole of difference.
