Knots for drop shotting
What knots do you all use for drop shotting? I was thinking a Palomar for the hook to the line then another Palomar, or, cinch on the weight. Read where the hook should be almost horizontal/perpindicular to the line. Just curious what others might be doing. Thanks, Eddie

braid on a spinning reel
I put Suffix 20lb test on one my spinning reels a while back. Absolutely love it for some of the lighter lures. Able to cast farther and cover more water. Since putting it on, I have yet to change back to my fluorocarbon loaded reel. Eddie

Cleaning your tackle
I am at a loss................ Sorry, guys. I have no idea what was going on. That's what I get for venturing out here when I should be working.

Best Spinnerbait
That is a good looking lure. I have been suing Booyahs successfully and not much else. They have held up really well and seem to be well made. Gonna try some of these mentioned here though just to see what else is out there. Eddie

Make your choice. Favorite LMB lure.
I would save a bunch of money and frustrate the bait monkey, but, here goes: 3/8 oz. White/Chartruese Spinnerbait with willow leaf blades and a trailer hook Eddie

Cleaning your tackle
Me, and its just my opinion, I would be very hesitant to put a reel in the dishwasher for routine cleaning. Now if I were doing this in preparation for a good cleaning to tear down, clean and lube all parts that would be different. As a former cyclist, you ALWAYS avoided spraying water directly into moving parts and where assemblies joined for fear of forcing dirt and contaminants into parts, bearing housings, raceways, etc.. I would not think this would be much different seeing as how a leading bike drive-train manufacturer is also a leading reel maker - Shimano. Also, I would think using soap with a degreaser would really mess up the internal lubing if the degreaser got in there. Just my thoughts. Eddie

Got Pollen?
This was in the parking lot when I came in this morning. Thought of the thread a couple of days ago about pollen. Sorry the pic is so blurry - camera phone. Had some rain yesterday afternoon and the drain had some pine needles blocking it. What you see is pure pollen, no standing water, its about 6" deep near the drain. Its bad in central NC this year. Anyone else have pics they want to share?

MOOKS GONE WILD TEAM SIGN UP
Defnitely sign me up then. I have used a stick for a bat but never eaten meatballs with raisins, but, will try. However, I will not put raisins in my grits though. ;D

MOOKS GONE WILD TEAM SIGN UP
Maybe, there could be a Southern and Northern chapter? Of course, that could start a North vs. South thing. Maybe Artic and Tropics. Either way, down South here the "mook" would definintely be multi-syllable. Count me in if entries below the Mason-Dixon are allowed.

Yellow haze
Here in central NC the pollen is REALLY bad this year. Don't know the count but all I know is I have not seen it this bad before. Played hookey from Church this AM and the little girl and I went to Lowe's. Was like driving through a yellow fog in places when the wind was blowing. When I let the dog out before we go to bed, looks almost like fine snow in the flashlight beam. Pretty wild. Eddie

Your big bass arsenal?
Spinnerbaits and Senko's T-rigged seem to work for some of the larger ones for me. Did pull in about a 4lbr (I know that's small for some of you guys, but good for my pond fishing) last summer on a buzz. RW, glad to hear that about the Norman's. I picked up a couple at Dick's the other day. Eddie

Tackle shop ratings
Nearest BPS is about an hour and a half away in Charlotte. Love to go and when Dad comes down we head that way just to hang out. I could spend an entire day in there. Have never been to a Cabella's nor Gander Mtn. Most of my shopping is done on-line and I like BPS and Cabella's, in that order. The BPS brands seem to be really good. Just outfitted my bullet, screw on, jig head and drop shot weights (bait monkey really got to me the other day) with all BPS brand and they are excellent - (25) 1/4 oz jig heads for $2.99 is hard to beat. The Wal-mart here (Durham off 15-501) is really good, but, I think that's because of the two guys that run it keep it stocked really well and know there stuff. Eddie

YUM wooly hawg
I just picked some up a couple of weeks ago. Have used them some, but not a lot. Really like the action though and them seem very durable. Have been using the pumpkin on a jig, bouncing and erractic "cranking" down low with not a lot of success. Like the idea of T-rigging and bullet weights. Will have to give that a try. Eddie

Moving to NC
Hey alhuff, welcome to NC. Wilson is nice and think you will like Raleigh. Nice thing about Raleigh, is that you can be on the Ocean in 2 hours, Wilmington, if you like. Or, couple of hours you can be on a stream in the mountains. There are some nice lakes around. Also, you can head east from Wilson and hit the Roanoke river for some good striped bass fishing - something I have been wanting to do for a while now. Sorry, you got laid off. You know how our God works though and sure he will see you through. Take care, Eddie

Finally got in some good fishing
We have had some beautiful weather here in central NC the last several weeks. I have been itching to spend some quality time down by the pond. But, work and family have allowed me to only spend 15 20 minutes at a time. Today, wife and little girl were out and I got to spend several hours on the pond. My drought was finally broken. Caught three that probably went about pound each. Good thing is that even though they were small, they were real healthy looking. No blemishes, vivid colors and just very healthy looking - the colors were absolutely great. Caught two on a Jitterbug love those top water hits. The third was on a Yozuri live bait minnow one of my favorite lures which I eventually lost > :'( . Started out throwing a jig with a brush hog but didn't get a single hit. Heard them hitting the surface all over the pond so that's when I brought out the spinning rod and put on the jitterbug. Second cast brought in my first of the day. Went to another section of the pond and caught my second. Probably about a pound and a half about 15. Brought back out the BC and put on a buzz. Got one hit but missed. I know, should have had on a trailer. Had them in my bag but just didn't want to fool with them. Put on a spinner and nothing. Put the live bait minnow on and was working along a grass bed and got the third. Had another one shortly after, but, he wiggled off when I got him close. All in all though, it was a great day. Felt good to be out there finally. Hope to get back out tomorrow. Eddie

Jig and Pig HAWG
Great story. Agree with KU, that's a funny looking bass. Sure is a pretty fish, but, I don't know what I would do if I were to pull something like that out of my pond. Probably throw my rod down and run. Congratulaions on a great catch. Thanks for sharing.

My 11.27lb largemouth.
Congratulations! Nice HAWG ya got there.

Lure retrievers
Anyone have any thoughts, recommendations or advice on using lure retrievers? I bought this one a while back from Cabella's: Cabella's lure retriever Had to use it this afternoon and it was not that good for me. Did not get the lure back. Was pond fishing from the bank and just could not get it out to where the lure was stuck. Think it would be great from a boat where the ring could slide down at a more vertical angle, but, from a pond bank does not work too good. Just curious what other's use as I am looking to get something else. Thanks, Eddie

jig storage

Most annyoing things?
Most annoying? When I do stupid things like I did earlier this afternoon. Was going to fish a YUM frog with a 3/16 screw-in weight. I got a weight out then pulled out a hook and tied it on. Pulled the frog on and went to screw in the weight. The weight was still sitting on top of the box. Took the frog off then cut the hook loose. Threaded the weight on, re-tied the hook then slid the frog back over the hook. Slid the weight down to srew it in when I realized it was on backwards. Fished it anyway.

Good Looking Bass on the Aqua View
Totally agree.

Yankee or Dixie quiz
You can take the boy out of the mountains, give him Northern friends and neighbors, send him up North on occasion (Boston), but, you can't take the mountain out of the boy - Thank goodness. 94% (Dixie). Is General Lee your father? Was a little worried there for a while.... Very cool test.
