Why I miss Rodney Dangerfield
I miss Rodney as well. His performance in Caddy Shack is legendary. Back in college I had one of his albums/tapes and I wore it out. Laughed everytime like it was the first time I heard it. Thought about it and here are some of my favorite Rodney's: The first time I had sex, it was a wonderful, beautiful experience. Just wish someone else had been there to share it with me. I told my Son, you're young, you don't have an upstairs. He told me your old, you don't have a downstairs. I told my Son, you just wait. One day you will have children of your own. He said, one day, you will too. I asked my wife on our first date if I could give her a good night kiss on the cheek. She bent over. My wife, she's into S&M. Salesmen and Mechanics. I told my doctor, Dr. Vinne Boombah, that I just swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills. He told me to have drink and get some rest. Told my shrink I was thinking of suicide. He now wants me to pay in advance.

Other ways to work a swimbait?
What seems to work for me is varying the retrieve - steady, speed up, slow down, speed up - stop - speed up, slow and steady - stop. Don't twitch or jerk, or yo-yo off the bottom. Will try to bring to the surface once in a while but pretty much a straight retrive. Try to mimic a bait fish feeding and/or heading for cover. Eddie

using a popper
I'm with avid. I usually hold parallell to the water to the right or left side. I pull/twitch horizontal as well, vs. up, seem to get better action and sound that way. Also, maybe its just me, but horizontal seems to allow me a better hook set. The motion just seem more compact vs. going up. Eddie

pond fishing
Most of my fishing is pond fishing. As others have stated, move around and look for the good cover. Stick ups, brush in the water, logs, points, trees, overhanging limbs in the water, etc. Big drop offs from banks are good too. If there is a little dock, work that thoroughly before walking out on it. As others have stated, what works good on a 100 ac. lake will typically work on a 2 ac. pond. If it is heavily pressured mix it up - throw something you wouldn't normally throw to give the fish something different to look at. The best advice I can give though, is if you are unfamiliar with the pond DO NOT CAST YOUR BEST LURES FIRST. Use a spinner (with out a trailer), or, some old chunkers you don't mind losing until you know where the snags are. Better to lose a $2 flea market lure than that brand new Lucky Craft. Spinners are great to explore with and can get some decent ones for around a $1. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Eddie

History Buffs
Maj. Winters, without a doubt. What a tremendous leader. He had God-given leadership abilities that just cannot be taught or learned. I really liked Sgt. Guarnere (sp?) as well. Don't know if it was just the way the he was portrayed in the series, didn't get quite that much out of the book, but he seems like the kind of guy you just want to hang out with on a Sunday afternoon.

Hand tools
So it's not just me,lol....thought I needed to start working out again : No, LBH, it's not you. I am no Charles Atlas, nor a Pee Wee Herman - 6'-2" @ 320lbs - with no slip its got the torque to twist me up really good if not paying attention. I always try to have both hands on it if possible. First time I ever used one was when we were building our house (3yrs ago) and I used our contractor's to zap some holes in the bands to run the cable/video feed through. Did not feel like hooking up my corded drill, so he handed me his Dewalt 18v cordless. Not wanting to be insulting, I sheepishly asked - "You sure this will go through two 2x12's?" (with a 1-1/2" hole saw/bit). His reply - "just hold on tight". Crawled under the house, started drilling. When it hit the second 2x12, kicked around and threw my knuckles into the sub-floor above (stupid hurts). After the pain subsided, got a good firm grip with both hands and she went right on through. Got mine a few weeks later..... Skilllet is spot on about the batteries. My original battery doesn't hold a charge like it use too. The ebay link is a good example on the $$$. You can buy drill, case, charger and two batteries for $139; (2) new 18v XRP will run you around $100. Eddie

Hand tools
Now, let me preface by saying I am not a contractor or pro. Just like working with my hands and tools. With that said..... I love Dewalt! I love my Dewalt 18V XRP. Just finishing up a project for little girl's swing set building retaining walls for the mulch (pics coming later). Used my 18V XRP to drive 1/2" lag bolts through 4x6 treated posts - performed like a champ. Used 2x6's for strapping the timbers together then drilled holes for 1/2" carriage bolts and nuts. On a fresh battery I think the drill would have pulled the carriage bolt through the timbers. I love that drill. Most people will tell you all you need is a 14V for around the house project work. However, I like having that extra torque when needed (see above ). Be warned though, setting the clutch to full/no-slip, it will wring your arm/wrist/hand off if you do not have a tight grip. Its caught me a few times. Afriad it might be tough to kepp under $150 though. Especially with a couple of batteries. I have bought several reconditioned Dewalt items off of ebay - grinder, biscuit joiner and trim saw at a very substantial savings. Look for the factory authorized resellers with high ratings that provide the items with a factory warranty. Here's a good one I just found.... http://cgi.ebay.com/DeWalt-Tools-18-Volt-Cordless-Drill-Driver-Combo-18v_W0QQitemZ130106456621QQihZ003QQcategoryZ42272QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This same unit is $200 at Lowe's. Just a thought - If you are going to be doing some deck work may want to look at a hammer/impact drill/driver. That's next on my list for an upcoming project.

Smokin Kentucky Derby
That was a great race. On my list of things-to-do-before-graduating-to-Heaven is to drink a mint-julip at the derby. Was reading the coverage from the local TV site and was checking out the pictures. The champions picture caught my eye. Check out Street Smart's face. I'm telling you, he's mugging for the camera! http://www.wral.com/sports/image/1388725/?img_list=1388504%2C1388510%2C1388536%2C1388725&ref_id=1388499 At least it looks that way - Love that picture. Secretariat is one my favorite athlete's of all time. I remember watching him race with my Grandfather - on TV of course. Anyone see the special on Barbaro last night on NBC? That was really good - heartbreaking - but a good and well done program.

Makes me sick.
I am with some others on here. If he wants to eat them, or maybe mount one, OK. His perogative. However, to catch, kill and throw in the trash? Now, that's a different story. I do not consider him (or others that do this) sportsman and/or fisherman. To kill something because you can or want to, well, to me, they are just not wired straight. Eddie

Match the hatch-or-whatever falls from the tress
Muddy - squirrel presentation - didn't know that's what it was called. Been doing that one myself. Actually, is one of my better presentations. Especially with the fly-rod. You crack me up, dude.

best day of the year so far
Congrats - love the comment on how you only got dinks, but was the greatest outing this year. Amazing what a difference having the little one's around can make. Good job, dad!

History Buffs
Right on, LBH. That is one of the best, if not the best, series/movies ever made IMHO. Spielberg and Hanks did an incredible job. Love the way they had the "real" guys on before the story started.

Day off on Jordan Lake
Took a couple of days off last week after a busy stretch at work. Needed to catch up on some chores around the house (and get in some fishing). After getting (most) of the chores done, decided I wanted to head down to the southern end of Lake Jordan, down near the dam and check it out; never been there before. It's a large earthen dam. On the other side, down a hill is a nice flat. A big field that comes to the water with a lot of stumps and stick ups on the shore. Walk over and start tossing a buzz between the stumps and stickups. I get one strike, but it was short should have had a trailer. I throw some other top waters and a shallow crank that I eventually lost. Knowing that its sticky down there I just start throwing a T-rigged senko. Bouncing it along the bottom and off the sticks and logs. I keep retrieving through some stickups right alongside some brush as I feel there has got to be some in there. I am about to give up and move on when I feel a slight tug. Not sure if I hit a stick or what, but gave a good hook set anyway. To my surprise, the line jerks back and immediately darts back to the brush. The drag is going out and I am trying to be gentle as I have a pretty light rig for casting in stickups; a 7 ML fast action with 8 lb fluoro. Know that's crazy for sticks, but, the thought was that this area probably gets a lot of pressure and I wanted to be as stealthy as possible. Knew that I had a good one, or, just a good fighter. Either way, wanted to land this one. I tried to gently coax it way from the sticks and keep it away from the brush. Was able to get it out in some open area and after fighting a little while was able to get it close to the bank. Was a little far down to comfortably lip it, so I grabbed the line to pull it on out. Just as it cleared the water and over the bank the line broke. Fortunately, it was not high off the ground and was on the edge. She was tired and couldn't move so I was able to lip her on up. It's a terrible picture, really can't see the girth of this little chub. She weighed in right at 4 lbs and 23 - check out that big ol gut.

Match the hatch-or-whatever falls from the tress
For a couple of weeks, about a month ago, I was in a massive drought on our pond. I was throwing everything in the tackle bag at them. Changing colors, size and presentations of my lures. I spent a lot of time with top water lures as I heard them all over the pond hitting the top especially around brush and near the banks. Knew for sure they were hitting the new spring bugs. Late one afternoon as I was casting off a little point, out of the corner of my eye I saw something moving in the water behind me. I look and it's a big ol' fat caterpillar that fell in the water. I was thinking how this year was the worst I had seen them. They were everywhere on the house and roads - couldn't walk around without stepping on one, or, if near/under trees having one fall on you. DOH! Got my lite spinning rod and attached a 3/0 EWG hook. Then took a 4 green Senko and cut it in half. I wacky rigged the cut in half senko and cast it out along the bank to my left at the edge of some overhanging tree limbs. I let it sit for a 10 count. Then twitch, twitch again, then BAM! First cast pulled in a 2 lbr. Few more casts and I pull in another one; 15 minutes later a third. In a span of about 30 minutes I caught more than the last two weeks. I felt foolish. Overlooked the basics. Thought I knew what was going on, but never really took the time to investigate and be sure. The answer was right there in front (and behind) of me but I was too busy trying to find the right color, size, pattern, etc. If I would have just spent a few minutes REALLY observing what was going on, instead of digging through the tackle box looking for the watermelon red-flecked skirt instead of the gold flecked one, would have made a big difference in the length and severity of my drought. I love Paris........................In the slammer
Her Mom thought the sentence was funny? Asking for autograhs. What? What kind of parent thinks their child going to jail is funny? That certainly explains a lot..... She talking about being mistaken is a joke. Yeah, right. She was warned, signed documents and then blew it off thinking it was all a joke she could buy her way out of. Think the hardest part of the sentence for her will be having to wear "off the shelf" prison orange jumpsuits and no $200 panties that she is so fond of.
