Need Rat-L- Trap advice
I love Rattle traps. Can cover a lot of water and they always seem to stir up the fish. Can be in an area throwing worms, cranks, jigs, etc. and never see a fish. Put on a Rattle Trap and after a little while will see them swimming around - may not get a bite, but at least I know they are there. I like the Rapala traps - baby bass is the favorite along with the shad. Like others, typically burn them across the bottom - very productive in hot weather - but the favorite retrieve is what vekol mentioned. Run it along and when it hangs on grass, weeds, etc give it a jerk. I will also do this when just retrieving below the surface - run it along and sweep the rod, or, pause then retrieve. Seems like the best hits are (mostly) after a pause either intentional or hitting grass/weeds. Thanks, Eddie

Easiest rod to start making
Thanks, David. Yes, have been through that thread a couple of times and visited all the links in it. Have also spent a lot of time on your web site - ton of great information on there - thanks for the interest in sharing with the rest of us. Thanks, Eddie

Easiest rod to start making
Thanks, guys. Convinced me to start with a BC. Makes sense about the light blank and trying to wrap - can see that being a challenge. Will hold off on that one until have done some wrapping. Going to get my work area in order, build my jigs and give it a shot! Thanks again, Eddie

is any one else having trouble
Yes, troubles. Few weeks ago I caught 9 fairly decent ones in the pond in about 3.5 hours on a salt and pepper senko - they were hitting it like crazy! Few days later - nothing. This past weekend caught one, he went a little over three pounds, on an old crank, but that was after three days of a dink each day. I guess I'll just have to keep trying........ ;D

clear or dark water
I like a little stain - not totally clear. Enjoy site fishing and watching them in their element. Also, let me know what they are, or are not, interested in.

LMB laughed at me today....
Great story. Bass are heartless creatures, mocking our best efforts.

Colts vs Saints
Oh, how I love Football. Game started like it was going to close. They both looked rusty on offense but the colts really looked somewhat unorganized - only word I can think of - right before the half. Really thought the saints could pull that one out. Dungy must have flew into them in the locker because IMHO, they did not look like the same team second half - much sharper and cripser on offense.

Easiest rod to start making
Ok, you guys have got me itching to start building some rods especially after exchanging some PMs with flechero. Ordered some rod building books and have been pouring over them as well as this forum and DavidG's web site. About ready to get started need to get my work area prepped and built out as well as build a couple of the tools/jigs I would like to have. Question: Which rods are easier to start with? Fly, spinning, baitcaster? I've got the impression that spinning and fly rods might be easiest to start with. I am tempted to start with the fly rod as I have a decent 7/8 but would like to have a couple lighter ones for panfish and streams. Thanks, Eddie

One of those days
The parents were down over the weekend for my daughter's third birthday party can't believe she is three already. As usual Dad and I headed down to the pond for some fishing Sunday afternoon. Saturday evening we went down for a few minutes and I pulled in two small ones. But, Sunday afternoon we were going to settle in for some serious fishing. I was after the bigger ones that were in there. Figured with all the heat recently they were deep and that's where I was heading. First 20 minutes I got two strikes on deep cranks that I missed. After 20 more minutes nothing happened and I switched over to some soft plastic swimbaits nothing. Then, tried some jigs still nothing. Spinners nada. Jerk baits zilch. Worms zero. After about an hour and a half of not even a single strike, I went to one of my favs and sure fire baits the rattle trap - specifically, a 1/2 oz baby bass pattern that will always get strikes for me. Started out with a couple of medium cats using my 7 ft rod to the middle of the pond. Started ratcheting it up and casting to the other side and pulling it across letting it bounce around off the bottom. Frustration was starting to set in a little, so just started slinging it to the upper end. On the second next zip code cast, I felt a slight tick. Was that a strike? No sooner had that thought left, then boom! The line straightens, the rod bends and is turning in the direction away from me on the other end of the pond back to some brush. I set the hook and start reeling. She feels good and putting up a good fight. I have on 14lb test and a fairly stiff rod but try to be a little gentle. She jumps once but can't shake the hook. Jumps again, this time a good foot out of the water and doesn't shake the lure. She looks to be a solid three pounds. After some more fighting she gives up and I am cranking on that reel pulling her across the pond at this point. As she gets closer I can see that its definitely one of the larger ones in the pond. Thinking that my day was a success at this point, I keep reeling and lift her out of the water. Just as she clears the water, she gives one last final wiggle and throws the hook. Falls back into the pond lays there for about a second then takes off. Was tough to watch her swim away. After that, I can't begin to imagine what it feels like to be in a big tournament. Have the fish on the line that will win it all, only to watch it swim away when it's within easy reach..

My Babies
That is so cool. Can you tell us about your setup? Aquarium size, filters, aerator, etc. Have entertained the same idea. Got to keep us posted on how they are doing & growing. Neat how they are hanging out by the "stumps".

bass insider not worth it
Good and timely thread. Wife just signed me up to B.A.S.S. (she's thoughtful that way). Got the information/welcom package over the weekend and saw the "insider" infomation and was wondering if it was any good. Was wondering what additional info they could provide.....this answers that question. Thanks, Eddie

Awesome! Sitting here watching the race and ESPN just showed they won. My nepwhew (incredible HS pitcher) in TN and we were up last weekend watching one of the games. Said the team we were watching was from Warner Robins Georgia and thought about you - love the Warner Robins, GA, CSA in your tag line. What a thrill for these kids. Beat Japan!

How do you?
Hey, file mob. Sorry for your dilema. We do not get a lot of snow - wish we did - but we just don't here in Central NC. So, can pretty much fish, maybe not catch, most of the year. However, when I have times that I want to fish but can't becuase of weather, I usually read about fishing. Collect bass/fishing books and put them away for just such an occasion. I DVR a lot of fishing shows as well so I can at least watch someone fish when I want to myself, but can't. I have also been known to stand in areas/rooms with high ceilings, or sit, and practice pitching and flipping into an old oil drain pan I got - its ideal - can get them at Wal-Mart for a $1. Have you thought about fly fishing? Have been doing it for years but don't tie my own. Want to start doing that as part of an "off-season" activity. Anyway, some of my thoughts. Hope you can find a good way to "fish" when you can't go outside. Take care, Eddie

Vick..............
After seeing the Duke Lacrosse case, I am not trying to "rush to judgement" on this, but it doesn't look good. I actually read the indicment - have had some free internet surf time of late . It looks pretty bad and dismal for Vick. If only half of it is true, he has a very long road ahead of him. Athough I guess it could be true that he really did not know what was going on there at the house, but, there are witnesses that place him at dog fights. I think he, and his brother are just plain trouble. However, in the end think this will go the way of Ray Lewis and the murders a few years ago in Atlanta. He will go free and be more popular than ever in a few years.

Kudos to the Boss
Great Job, Glenn. Thanks for the hardwork and determination. Just got back on a few minutes ago and does feel a lot faster. Good to be back.
