My game day. . . gig'em Aggies!!
Hey Fisher of Men, pulling for those Aggies. Good first qtr here. They match up pretty well. Think this is going to be a tough game. Guy that I became real good friends with at work went to A&M - biiiiig Aggies fan - and I pull for them because of him. I was shocked though the first time I told him I had to pull for Texas too tough because of Mack - I am one of the few TarHeels that would take Mack Brown back in a minute - he said that was OK as long as they weren't playing the Aggies Was shocked. You would never, or rather highly, highly unlikely to hear a tarheel saying it was OK to pull for dookie or vise-versa. But he informed me how most Texas & A&M fans pull against the other, but outside of Texas, you pull for the Texas team. I respect that - very cool. Although I must admit, never have pulled for dook and can't imagine any circumstance where I would. oops, Cal just scored. Good luck, Eddie

And you thought we have bad roads.....
I agree, think I would be hesitant to take a lightning down a dirt if I had one. That F350 4x4 with the right setup might be fun on those roads though. Eddie

So, What Did You Get For Christmas?
Sounds like everyone had a great Christmas. Congrats Rattlinrougue on the new coaching job and good luck. I got some nice stocking stuffer flyfishing stuff, bobbins, glue, floatant, etc. and spending time with wife and little girl. The two best things at the top of the list was first, a book "from my little girl". Last year my wife gave me book that she had made "to daddy from Anna" that had pictures and notes in it from my little girl and me together. It made me cry and not ashamed to admit it. This year she gave me another book that was even better - more pictures and captions (from snapfish.com). I treasure these two books. The top of the list though was watching my 2-yr-old little girl see the gifts Santa had brought. She was grinning from ear-to-ear. I will never forget that. Was a great day. Merry Christmas to all. External Hard drives
Yes, from within file explorer you can bring up your "C" drive and drag and drop files and folders to the external WD. You can also use retrospect to make a full copy of the drive and/or a full backup. The full copy is basically a "drag and drop" just managed through the backup software which gives you some error checking and some other managebility beyond drag and drop. What I did on the most recent rebuild: 1. Drag and drop to other internal drive - had the space on a second internal drive and was easy backup and recoverability outside of any SW package with the intention of deleting after rebuild completed. This also put another copy on another drive. 2. Full volume copy within retrospect - quick volume level copy and restore of data if needed within retrospect to the external drive 3. Full backup within retropsect. This was my historical backup archive that would be kept indefinitely on the external drive in case I discovered later there was something missing. Yes, this is overkill, but, I wanted to be sure I could get everything back. Also, my wife uses this PC and I was not sure all her files would be in one location - better safe than sorry - so, just copied everything and had multiple copies in case something went wrong (I work in IS and have seen too many failed recoveries - had the space and just made extra copies). After I re-installed the OS and progam packages, copied data files back over as needed. Good luck with this. Know it is a pain and time consuming but you can get through it. Feel free to ask any questions, will help as much as possible. Thanks, Edd

SAD NOTE ON CHRISTMAS JAMES BROWN PASSED
Very sad inded. Was a great performer. I knew a guy who was the keyboard player was in James' brother's band. He got to play with JB a couple of times and said the man was incredible. Had more energy than anyone he had ever seen. The thing he mentioned was the biggest challenge in JB's band was that a set list was a suggestion and not necessarily meant to be followed . He said JB could really read a crowd and knew exactly how to get them into it and would change up songs on the fly. Often turning to the band, throwing out a song title not even on the set list and counting it off on the spot. Had to be ready for anything playing with JB. They don't make them like that anymore. He will be missed but his music will live on. Eddie

External Hard drives
Hey Huskerto, I highly recommend this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1088430&CatId=0 This is the latest generation from WD. I have a couple of the previous versions (w/out the built in card readers - nice feature) and they are great. I did a complete rebuild of our main home PC a while back and did not loose a single bit of data. The restrospect backup software is one of the best backup SW packages I have used - ability to perform full volume copies, full backups and incremental backups. The vol copies are bit-for-bit copies while the backups provide compression. Very easy to use and configure. I have a couple of these devices hanging off of each of my PCs mainly for backing up internal drives. I have additional internal drives installed to keep the "C" drive free & clean. Keep pics, media, video and other files on the additional internal drives and use the "C" drive for OS and programs only. Then use retropsect to automatically backup the drives every night. I bought a couple of the 250GB WD external drives off of ebay a while back for 75$ ea. They were refurbed with a warranty and came with the retrospect software. If you go the ebay route make sure you are comfortable with the feedback of the seller, they come with a warranty & refund policy and the retrospect software is included. Good luck. Eddie

What is the biggest fish you have every lost?

Cold water bassin
I had some recent luck in cooler weather using some YUM crawbugs. The air temp was in the 50's for a few days, not sure what the water temp was. Saw a Bill Dance show earlier and tried the technique he recommended - walking them (crawbugs) across the bottom when the water is cooler and the fish go deep. Worked pretty good as I did not get a strike on anything else. Eddie

Jets vs. Dolphins
Agree - that's why I am surfing the 'net. Think both teams are afraid of winning this one. Sure does not look like a rivalry. They sure are getting a lot of rain. Looked like around here earlier today. Eagles v. Dallas was pretty good from what I saw. Looking forward to the bowl games! Eddie

Why the Pros don't use nets
Hey guys, I think it was either Bill Dance or Roland Martin that I was watching a while back and they were commenting on the use of nets - which BTW they were recomending, or a boga, to limit handling and avoiding having the fish fall and get hurt. It was mentioned that nets were not allowed in the major tournaments anymore because of some controversy in the past in regards to people netting/dipping fish out of the water. So, BASS and other pro tourneys do not allow the use of nets to avoid the possibility or perception of cheating. Eddie

Horror movies.
The scariest movies to me are the Ya-Ya sisterhood, Fried Green Tomatoes and Thelma and Louise OH, wait a minute, horror movies, not movies that are a horror for me. The scariest would have to be without a doubt The Exorcist saw that movie once and only once - scared the beejeebies outta me. The devil/possession stuff is just TOO over the top for me. As a Christian, I know that greater is he that is in [me] than he that is in the world, but, that kind of stuff is just a little too much. All time favorite horror flicks, in rough order, would have to be John Carpenter's Vampires with James Wood and Daniel Baldwin that movie totally rocks IMHO. Yes, I am one of the few that like the original Dusk til Dawn movie. I liked the last "Dawn of the Dead", Shining, Blade, The Dark Half, Carrie, Christine (yes, I am a Stephen King fan), Rosemary's Baby, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (both versions 70's and remake) along with Part 2. The Omens, and I use to love the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Not sure if it falls under horror, think they might be more thriller, but because others have mentioned I would also include Jaws, Aliens, Running Man, The Mummy series, Silence of the Lambs, Blade Runner and Misery. Caught a good one over the weekend that some might like called Wolf Creek. Definitely recommend. It is touted as the Australian equivalent of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Takes a while to get going lot of leading story line, some of it a little cheesy, but once it gets going is a pretty wild ride. Thought it had a really good story line and was really done well. The villain has a really good villain laugh. Not a lot of special effects and CGI, if any, to make the movie, just good story tellin'. IMHO, a good horror movie has to be somewhat believable, Wolf Creek does that. Also, caught the Hills have eyes over the weekend as well. Was alright, pretty predictable. Please note there may be some spoiler below if you are going to watch this movie. Very predictable - I guessed at the beginning who would survive and missed by one; knew that a baby parent had to survive but I guessed the wrong one. It was right on the verge of being totally lame, but, had some pretty good moments and a few good twists. I never totally understood the concept of why being a nuclear mutant would make one a cannibal. Also, the premise that a large mutant population lives totally unknown in the desert while all the cars from the missing people are out in plain view is a pretty far stretch for the imagination. From the ending appears there will be a part II, totally expect that to be lame and have no intention of watching. IMHO, with a little more thought and development, especially with the gas station attendant, this could have been a really good movie, but, it kinda reminded me of the toxic avenger movies back in 80's.

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
Based upon what I have seen out of A-rod the last couple of years in the post season, half of his current salary would still be too much money. I do not mean to be too critical, but this guy's heart just does not seem to be in the game - especially the post season. I saw no emotion from him at all this year until the "controversial" tag at third the other night; and that was nothing. Unload A-rod & his salary, take care of Jeter and shore up the pitching. These guys, especially Johnson, are getting older and are hurt, can't see them around too much longer. Yankees need to keep Torre - period. Agree with Muddy, he is one of the best in the game. Maybe Steinbrenner will do him like Billy Martin and bring him back when the next manager fails to meet his (Steinbrenner) unrealistc expectations. Eddie

Tell Me What is Your Favorite Fishing Weather
Enjoy about anytime as long as it is not BLAZING hot with 90% humidity which is the typical summer day around here - but doesn't stop me. Favorite would have to be early, cool crisp fall mornings, but, seem to be most successful in the early evenings when it starts cooling off. Eddie

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
Good thing I am not a betting man - for me that is - thought the Yankees were going to take it all this year. What a dissapointment. IMHO, they had it all and was their's to lose. Jeter was great the first game, then had moments of greatness defensively but his bat went a little cold. Damon and Abraieu (sp?) had a few shining moments and Giambi had some good moments, but, everyone else, just did not seem to have the fight in them. That has to be one of the biggest underacheivements. Detroit pitching was awesome - Verlander and Rogers were great against those Yankee hitters. Then bring in Zumaya behind them - wow - reminded me of Atlanta a few years ago. Not sure who I am pulling for now. Like to see the Cards win again. Like the Mets as well (enjoying the LA game right now, but the mets just flubbed a fly and loaded the bases with one out - getting interesting). But, I really enjoyed watching those tigers. Think I am just going to sit back and enjoy the games. LA just scored 2, this is getting interesting..........

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
Hey guys, Just spent the last few days reading through this thread - very good one by the way - after Muddy suggested I take a peak from another thread. Wound up working from home today and have the tigers-yanks game (postponed from last night) on. Verlander is pretty amazing 100+ MPH fast balls. Not very accurate today, but, he's got killer heat. Doing a prety good job keeping the yanks batters in check - oops spoke too soon - Damon just ripped one in the upper deck after I wrote that last sentence - these yankee bats are incredible. Jeter had a great night Tuesday, that was a heckuva of a performance he had, just put on a hit clinic going 5 for 5. From what I have seen coming out of the regular season and these first few games, my $$$ is on the yankees. Their hitting is just too strong and they have the experience. Looking forward to the Padres and Cards this afternoon - that's a good one. Eddie

Dawn or dusk?
I am very much a morning person. But, seem to have the most luck in the evening. Have went some mornings and haven't gotten so much as a nibble. Go back in the evening, with the same lure still on the pole, and pull them in. This is on a small 3 acre pond. Eddie

Help with Small Pond
How big is the pond? How deep do you think it might be? Most of what I fish is pond and its been a little slow lately - have been avoiding the skunks (barely), but, its been slow. Not sure if its the weather or what. Anyway, they have been hitting the plastic worms lately but this AM they wouldn't have anything do with them. Put on a light colored spinner and pulled in 2 within about 30 minutes. Just keep at it, the spinner always seems to be the trick for me. Slow, up and down, retrieve seems to work the best for me. Hang in there and good luck, Eddie

The almighty split shot
Excellent, excellent post! Like The_Muddy_Man I just started fishing plastic worms this year and these are some really good ideas. Was on the water this AM tossing some senkos and robos. Have been using the "screw in" bullet weights, but, like the idea of using the SS. If lucky will give it a try tomorrow! 8-) Eddie

any fly rodders
Assume you were referring to my comment about "not being able to reach where the fish were hiding'. I was not very clear. I was referring to the 3 ac. pond behind the house that I am at most of the time and bank/shore fish. It is basically rectangle/kidney shaped and is surrounded on 3 1/2 sides by woods right up to the water's edge. The woods side is where the good structure and pattern is at. I can fly cast 30% of it and roll and/or lateral cast 50% of it and have been very successful. The sweet spots, though, are on the upper side and totally surrounded by trees and about impossible to cast through. I bank fish it and if anyone can show me how to cast a 9' 7 wt flyrod on a bank surrounded by deep brush and trees would love to see it! Eddie

any fly rodders
Started flyfishing a few years ago - how I got back into fishing from teenage years. I use a 7wt Martin with VFR reels. Really like the VFR, its a well made entry level reel and like how the spools swap out; highly recommend. The Martin is entry level too, but, is real good for the "farm pond" fishing that I do 80% of the time. Use a 7WF line and 2X leader. I have made a few of my own leaders, but, really prefer buying the tapered leader. The tapered leaders seem to turn over a lot better for me. Like I said, the Martin is good for the pond fishing that I do, but, is not that sensitive - my only complaint. Hope to upgrade at some point in the near future to something better; lighter and more sensitive for river and trout. Have caught SMBs on wolly buggers, large nymphs, clousers and terrestials - mine in the pond really like ants. I pretty much throw anything that looks like it might be in the water or buzzing around. I do enjoy flyfishing, actually better than baitcasting, but, can't always get to where the fish are hiding with a fly rod - even with the roll cast. Eddie

Do you wear eye protection while you fish ???
Excellent post Fish Chris. Nice work by yourself and Raul. I typically wear my "working" OSHA glasses that I use when I mow or work outside. But, as someone else mentioned, I typically take them off at night/dusk. I have some clear ones that I use as well for outside. Need to keep them handy for low light fishing - those pictures make me think a lot! Another place to get good glasses are the local bicycle shops. I am not talking about the $100 Bollee's but you can usually find some pretty cheap knock off's for around $20. That's where my clear glasses come from. Also, to help if an accident should occur (and to make catch and release easier) I debarb all my hooks - even the treble hooks. Hooked myself good last summer in the thumb with a fly. Lack of a barb made it very easy to get out and save a trip to the Dr. Eddie

Has this site helped you?
Yes, this is the greatest fishing site I have seen/found. Has helped tremendously, can't even begin to describe the amount of help, advice and tips I have gotten off this site. I am on almost every day and constantly learning. What makes it so great are the people and thier wilingness to share and the moderators that keep us in line. Eddie

Wanna master worm fishin'? Try it my way...
Nice technique. Will give it a shot. I typically let it fall to the bottom and site for a few seconds, then jerk and reel it in. Good idea letting it sit for a few seconds in between. Have you tried using the clacker balls? Does that make a difference for you? I have tried with and without and have not seen a difference. Eddie
