  1. I would semiretire the old one, get it out when you feel nostalgic and just enjoy it. Then get the new one built to your specs and go to war with it.
  2. Alberto knot has been working for me.
  3. Gamakatsu wicked wacky weedless. I have been using the 3/0 and 2/0. They have worked great. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/gamakatsu-wicked-wacky-hooks
  4. It's getting that way for me as well. All of a sudden (the past few years), they stopped bitting square bills at pretty much every lake I fish, especially the bigger fish. I still use them on occasion because I'm stubborn but the bite just hasn't been the there.
  5. Short answer no. 8lb maybe but 14lb would be a nightmare on a bass spinning reel. Does this line even exist in it's original formula? Did Quantum/Zebco buy it?
  6. Rocks are square bill magnets. Lure retriever is the ticket.
  7. Picked up 6 more packs. Thanks
  8. I have a couple of the Columbia PFG shirts and they are not bad but my personal favorite is from Exofficio, the Air Strip shirt. They have several other options but this one is tough and functional.
  9. I have been using Invizx for several years and I use to use Hybrid and Ultra Soft before that..... I am actually on the opposite end of this. I found Hybrid to be more unmanageable than Invizx but I didn't use conditioner on the Hybrid though. Hybrid once it got wet and used a few times, it turned into a super hard line for me, more like co-poly (CXX). Invizx did not which why I have stuck with it for so long. Maybe Hybrid has changed. Out of the FC lines I have used Invizx has been the softest next to Trilene XL 100% FC. Tatsu is amazing line but it's just a fuzz bit stiffer which is not a bad thing in most cases. This is an after thought to add to above..... I was curious so I researched a little bit about Hybrid since it has been years since I used it and this review sums it up for me (just in case there were many positive reviews)...... I like nylon line for the stretch, knot strength, and shock absorption. I like fluro for its density, abrasion resistance, and low visibility. So what about a hybrid? Best of both worlds? Yes and no (unfortunately). I have had this line spooled up on two baitcast reels for a month and have made hundreds of casts and caught many LMB with it. It checks all of the boxes on the pluses of nylon and fluro; excellent knots, great shock absorption, dense enough to reach proper depth, etc. However, this line changes with temperature. When it's cool outside, it lays and casts like a dream; when the temp starts to rise into to 80°F (+) range, the monster comes alive. The two different materials react differently and coil memory sets in. After every 5 or so flips, pitches, or short casts; I have to make a long cast and "stretch" the line back onto the reel. The coils become too unmanageable to continue fishing without doing so (think Slinky). It's sad because I really like all of the other qualities of the line, but manageability gets frustrating. I want to fish, not babysit a temperamental line. Would I recommend this line as a leader? Absolutely! As a main line? Never. From now on, I will only use this line as a leader. I think it's better than fluro as a leader to braid, but worse than mono memory as a main line.
  10. I have had good look with the 6in Mag Draft so I started looking for an alternative and this bait will probably be the ticket. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Just picked up a couple of packs. I wanted to see what the hoopla is all about. We will see if it's better than the Dream Shot.
  12. I still get one from time to time but I like to think I can set up of the right bait with the right reel and rod, then take the time to understand the conditions around me and let me thumb do the rest.
  13. There are a few on E-bay for about $30-$40 complete and in good condition so you might get $15-$20 at the most.
  14. I believe it is A-Jay that is a big Quantum fan here. He might have a better idea. It may be that you will have to either get a spare reel for parts or just move on.
  15. The only place I have found specific Quantum reel parts is Quantum themselves and even then it's questionable, especially on older reels. One other thing, I ran into this when a screw on a new reel didn't fit the frame properly. Quantum had to send me the the whole side plate. The screws, side plate, mounting hardware, etc. were one part.
  16. I have certain hooks I like for specific baits..... Curly tail worms and lizards > Owner offset shank wide gap Senkos and other Texas Rigged plastic > Gamakatsu EWG Fat Ika > Owner Wide Gap Plus Recently I have been using the Gamakatsu nano finesse treble hooks when I need to replace stock and so far so good. They are crazy sharp and can do some damage if you pull too hard.
  17. St. Croix Avid 7' M Fast.
  18. Cheap end .... Trilene XL and Suffix Elite. On the premium end.... Sunlune Defier is great line but not as soft as other mono. It does last longer and retains it's shape better. It's like FC that floats. I use it for crankbaits.
  19. Adding to what I said above..... You may have loved on it too much and I can't think of anybody that fishes for as long as some of us have that hasn't done this to their gear. My local store has several of the Patriot rods in stock. You might be able to have them order it and do a ship to store if they will cover it> usually wear and tear is not covered but break it on a hook set and you're usually leaving with a new rod (go figure). Good luck.
  20. I asked about the longevity of these grips to a St. Croix rep when I was looking at their Yak series and he said on average 5-6 years with normal use but maybe longer. He then said the important thing was keeping it from getting completely soaked then used and you also have to clean it with a wet cloth with no soap or chemicals, just water and left to dry. They will also break down faster if used in cold weather or stored in freezing temps. Alcohol can be used to restore the tackiness.
  21. I have several St.Croix rods. Their service has always been top notch. I just haven't had to contact them since last year though. It seems their website is always sold out.
  22. A little over your price range but I have been using a G. Loomis 903C CBR for 3/8oz chatterbaits and it has been great. It is a Mod Fast Medium but it has plenty of power for just about anything. The tip is soft but not as soft as say other crankbait rods I have. Also, it's not bad when it comes to sensitivity. If you are dead set on a heavy rod for the above techniques, then the 847C CBR might not be bad. If I was choosing for what you mentioned though, I would go with the 906C CBR. It goes up to an ounce. The only reason I would see going to a heavy in the weights mentioned would be if I was fishing deep.
  23. If you are happy with you spinning set up for light lures, then 70 MGL would be more useful. BFS is a niche technique, however ever fun. The with the Bantam MGL I have thrown a few small baits but it really isn't designed to be a BFS reel. With the right rod, which is key, I can throw a 1/8oz shaky head and a finesse worm but nothing lighter.
  24. I am not really upset at the shipping delay. I just wanted to warn others that if they are expecting a rod quickly, it may be awhile. Also, they did tell me that they were shut down for months and they are not yet up to their full production capacity. They also made it sound like they are fulfilling smaller tackle shop orders first and the bigger retailers later.
