  1. Depending on the reel..... It's pretty easy. There are definitely more outlets. All you need is a part number and some patience. The last time I ordered from Shimano, it took about 2 weeks but I have heard it might take longer.
  2. Parts availability, customer service and overall quality would make me look elsewhere at this time. There are several reels in this price range that should fit the bill.
  3. From what I saw I like the new Curado. The one let down to me was the new Hobie kayak, the Mirage Lynx. It has a flat deck. Why would you want a flat deck on fishing kayak? All the stuff I carry no matter how stable it is would end up in the water. Also, if a fish starts flopping around, it will bounce right back into the water.
  4. You can often find them cheaper on eBay and Sierra Trading Post. If you have a large head, these are some of the bigger frames they make. Too big for my head. Price is good too. https://www.sierra.com/smith-transfer-xl-sunglasses-polarized-chromapop-lenses-for-men~p~58ddp/?filterString=s~smith-sunglasses%2F&merch=prod-rec-prod-prod58DDP&colorFamily=01
  5. It's been a tough summer so far but was able to get this one in the boat today.
  6. I have been using an improved clinch knot with FC for quite some time but here lately I have had a few break offs. So I saw the San Diego Jam knot on this thread and I tried it today. No issues, it worked great. It may be my go to in the future.
  7. If you already have a several rods to choose from or if you are adding a technique specific rod then I would go high end > A G. Loomis NRX+ 844C would cover a lot of different techniques. Personal preference, you don't need a high end spinnerbait rod or a high end crankbait rod for that matter unless you upgrading from what you already have. Another thing to consider is the warranty with each rod. Megabass may make a great rod but their warranty can't come close to Loomis or St. Croix.
  8. In my career as a lumberjack, I cut down 57,687 trees. I know because I kept a log.
  9. When my parents retired to Florida, we use fish quite a bit. What we found best was fishing transition spots > the edge of a shadow, rock piles that transition to sand or grass, deep docks and humps or holes in deeper water. We used jigs, crankbaits and lizards. Fishing very slow. Also, if you find a spot where you know there are fish, stay there and don't use the trolling motor and turn your electronics off. Florida fish don't seem to bite the first time they see a bait. One more thing, long casts worked best for us.

I haven’t seen these in awhile. I think GYCB is getting out of the crankbait business but don't hold me to that. I would try ebay.
  11. I always tie them on. Those weights get stuck or snagged in about 90% of the places I fish and once they are stuck, one hard pull without a knot and they're gone.
  12. When I was in college, I lived on a house boat and I dated the girl next door. Unfortunately, we drifted apart.
  13. Not heard of the two you mentioned and also not sure how cheap you want to go. But when it comes to sub $100 reels, the Shimano Sahara is hard to beat.
  14. My old BMW had a tool kit and a road side assistance safety package. Both were standard at the time.
  15. Most of the Shimanos I have purchased have come with oil and a few Daiwas. I wish they all came with some. It would encourage the owner to maybe do some basic maintenance or at least to ask the question, "What's this for?"
  16. Line capacity based on yards is sort of subjective. It should be based off line diameter and each standard between companies and even countries is different. On a side note, I spooled two Curado K's earlier this year with Daiwa Samaria FC 14lb 220 yards with 10-20 yards of backing and it filled them perfectly with only a few yards leftover.
  17. I have always used a fast action rod for topwater, with a few exceptions. Most companies that assign lure recommendations to their technique specific rods have topwater, in general, as a fast action type bait> Loomis, St.Croix, and Megabass all fall into this train of thought.
  18. I work on a few of these reels every year for a couple of fishing buddies. Good chance the drag is just shot. I took apart one this year where the drag washer fell apart in my hand when I took it out and another had been cranked down so tight it had developed a worn spot that curved the ends of the washer. Not common but it can happen.
  19. I pond I fish has become the same way. 2 years ago something happened with the herbicide they use to kill the weeds. I was told that the commercial formula had less regulation now, and was more effective. that fall we had a huge amount of rain that caused a lot of run off. In late October that year there were tons of floaters. The property manager hired a crew for clean up but did not restock the pond. It hasn't been the same since.
  20. I would say the 6'8'' would be the the way to go but I would take a look at the Mojo yak rods. I know they are not an LE (I have two) but they are better suited for a sitting kayak fisherman and the tapers are better as well. Also, these rods seem more versatile than the LE line but are definitely less sensitive. It only took me one dip in water with these rods to appreciate the Winn grips. They do work but I prefer cork when fishing pretty much any other time.
  21. My last purchase with them wasn't bad on price though. I picked up a pair of Chippewa boots for $80 and they were not seconds. They retail for $250. Some of the best work boots I have ever owned. On the other hand, somethings just aren't discounted like they use to be. You have to watch what you get, price wise.
  22. My wife is the same way with her hair. I don't know where it all comes from but I find it in the arm pits of my work shirts. It's embarrassing and it's gives crazy. But hair in reel, that's new.
  23. Found tons of good deals over the years at this site. They have been kind of hit and miss lately and their prices are not as good as they use to be but still better than retail. My best fishing find from them was an Abu Garcia Fanasista rod. This rod was about $500 retail and I think I got for under $200. Great rod, cool looking and GLX sensitive.
  24. Fished a tournament this weekend and dealt with the same thing. We fished our usual spots and I couldn't convince the guy I fish with to get away from the bank. We caught two keepers but the guys that finished in the top 5 all fished off shore and used their electronics to find the fish deep.
