  1. If you look at a line of reels that has spanned years.... The Shimano Curado hands down. I own or have owned reels from pretty much each major manufacture and the Curado line up has out lasted them all. There are better reels but each rendition has its own special feel to it. I would also throw the Calcutta and Stradic in the same category.
  2. I have the same breaking system on an Abu Garcia reel and it works great. It does take awhile to figure out. But once you get the idea, it can help land a bait softly in the water. It sounds like with some practice you'll get the bugs worked out.
  3. I had the previous version of this reel. It seemed fine at first and I was actually surprised at how smooth and well it performed but only after a few long outings the breaking become questionable. It wasn't line or other parts for that matter, just the breaking system was flakey. Since I only payed a few bucks for it, I donated it at the Cabela's trade in sale. I would look to the reel before the line. I used Invizx for years in 6lb, 12lb, 15lb, and this year 20lb with no issues.
  4. Wind, clear water and light finesse ~1/4oz or less > spinning gear. Everything else is on casting gear, which is 90% of the time.
  5. Best bang for the buck..... St. Croix Avid. I do like all of the St. Croix rods I have though. Favorite over all...... G. Loomis NRX or GLX Fun to fish..... Megabass Destroyer P5
  6. In all my years of fishing, I have fished plenty of lakes with pike and musky but only tied into one. And yes, I did loose my lure (senko). It was fun while it lasted though.
  7. This is the type I use when I peg the bait. It just screws in. I do like this technique but prefer a standard T-Rig setup with a regular bullet weight and a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG.
  8. Noticed it. One of the guys I fish with has a Crestliner that was $11,000 new 3 years ago. Same boat today is $16,000. Sales on boats, RV's and outdoor equipment are at an all time high. Where I work, we make a particular outdoor piece of equipment and we are know a year out (maybe more) on delivery. This year our sales have doubled and then some.
  9. Works great. Just cast it, let it sink to the bottom, and pop it a little.
  10. Deps Slide Swimmer 250..... I will never buy one but they are cool looking.
  11. I have several Megabass baits and some are hit and miss. The two main ones that didn't get the job done.... Any of their soft plastic and the Cyclone crankbaits. I can't speak for everything they make but most everything I have has caught fish pretty well. The question is are they worth the extra cost.... Probably not at full price. And like a lot of things in fishing, they catch more fisherman than fish.
  12. The 7.X:1 ratio is the fastest I own. I have tried one the Revo Rockets and it was too fast for the way I fish. I can't see going any quicker than what I currently have.
  13. I just picked up the 2017 and so far so good. I haven't heard anything about a new version coming out.
  14. I haven't tried the new one but the Shimano Sahara use to be a great budget reel.
  15. Shimano Bantam MGL PGL (JDM Version).
  16. Braid> Xplazma from Sunline Mono> Deifer also from Sunline FC > Seaguar Tatsu, Invizx, and Abrazx. I also like Trilene XL100% FC for spinning gear
  17. Unlike baseball, when I'm fishing I swing at every thing. Soft at first, then hard when I feel the line take hold. I am not the best jig fisherman but this is my process. Also, I think you have to remember the fish gets in its mouth and has get through the skirt and the weed guard. It's a small window when it comes to the open space you have to set the hook, compared to other baits. To me, this is where the right equipment is crucial and experience is also key.
  18. I have the Curado K and DC, the Bantam, and Chronarch MGL and between all of them, I like the Bantam the best. On the other hand the Chronarch is fun to fish. If I were choosing, I would get the Bantam JDM but the Metanium JDM would be very tempting.
  19. Where did you find this particular color. I love the fat ika.
  20. I like the Plano Edge but a regular box and a glue gun does the trick.
  21. I don't fish them hardly at all anymore and I don't know why. They always produced for me. I used Mister Twisters and the big ones from Yamamoto.
  22. I have 3 of them in the 6in size and they have been great. You have to find the correct retrieve speed. Too slow, it doesn't make a ton of motion. Too fast, it turns over. So far it has been the soft plastic swimbait I have used.
  23. Good deal. I would snag it.
