One of the worst lines I have ever used.......
I got them both at Cabela's. I actually went in to get some line to replace what I bought. I told the guy working in fishing department my story and they let me return it. I have to admit I felt awkward returning a more than half empty spool of line but they took it back without question. I ended up not getting any new line because they were out of just about everything. I picked up a few baits instead.

Cranking Rod
I will give another vote for the Legend Glass. I have the 7'2'' M Moderate and it has been fantastic.

Asking a lot, frog rod that can double 6" senko whacky
This not really a designated frog rod by Loomis but the 844C GLX will throw a frog a long way and will also work well for a weightless senko. It's light, sensitive and has enough backbone to pull a fish out of some cabbage. I have also used it for jigs and heavy jerkbaits. It's one of the more versatile rods I own.

rod blank length effect on power & action?
I would think it should be pretty close to the same. It may load a little different but the power would be about the same. Take a look at Tackle Tours numerous rod reviews. They have a rod deflection chart with each review and this will show the power characteristics across the length of the rod. How accurate is it?> I have no idea but the info is there for you so you can judge for yourself.

One of the worst lines I have ever used.......
That was my first thought 2 months ago with 17lb but I have checked the guides and fished other lines and reels on the same rod with no issues for many hours. The 14lb line has been pulled from the reel it was on 3 months ago and I have been using Sunline Natural on that setup since with no issues with that line. I have also used Siege, Elite and 832 braid with no issues but I has since found other lines that like better. I just had hopes that Advance would be a better choice. I do still have the 17lb on a Revo Toro Beast and I have pulled a piece of it off to show (sorry, pic not the best) and a piece of 15lb CXX that was on the same rod spooled with a Shimano Calcutta 251. The CXX is from last year and the Sufix Advance was used for about an hour and spooled in September of this year.

One of the worst lines I have ever used.......
So I wanted to try something different in a heavy duty mono. I took some advice from a friend at work and tried Sufix Advance in 17lb and 14lb. It had some good reviews online and a few bad ones but on average it sounded like it would be worth a shot. I should have listened to the bad reviews. This line has OK memory and OK knot strength. The issue lies in that it doesn't last long. The abrasion resistance is horrible. I would make about 2 or 3 casts and line would be frayed. I would then have to cut the line and retie. Both 17lb and 14lb behaved this way and I wasn't fishing around rocks or heavy cover. Also, I checked the guides on my rods and also the reels and both are fine. It's not too often that I find something in the fishing world that I would truly give a thumbs down to but this line qualifies. If you have used it and have had good luck, all the better but I think I am going to stick to Big Game and P-Line CXX for this type of line.

How long does Fluoro typically last??
Kind of the same. I usually change Invizx about every other year and I have had Tatsu on my main setup for 4 years and it's still good as the day I got it but like you it's getting low and I will need to change it before next season.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I picked up the 7'2'' M early this year as well. I have been eyeballing the same rod just purchased too. I think the 8'8'' Heavy would be too much and I have a 7'11 MH Crankbait rod so the 7'2'' may be the ticket. These rods are truly something special though.

St. Croix Legend Xtreme or G loomis GLX
I have two that similar to what you are looking at.... I have the 803C GLX and Legend Elite 6'10'' M X-fast. Both are great rod. I think I like the Legend Elite a little better but it's pretty close. Another rod I like even better though is the G. Loomis 783C GLX. This rod can do whatever and it's perfect for jerkbaits> sensitive, soft tip, and just the right length to work a bait.

I don't know if you want a rod for crankbaits but St. Croix will have select Mojo and Premier Glass rods for 40% off on December 6th.

Bait Monkey Wishlist
I have my I eye on a swimbait rod but not sure which one yet. Oh and few monstrous swimbaits to go with it.

baitcaster right or left retrieve
Guilty of using left handed retrieve on a spinning reels and going to left hand bait casters. I tried right handed bait casters at first and it just wasn't working for me. I picked up a left hander and it was like magic. I have tried using a right hander a few times since then and it just feels weird now.

Line choice
12lb Seaguar Invizx. I use it for pretty much everything.

Rod and Reel for Buzzbait
I like a Med Fast rod around 7' and with a 7.x reel with 12 or 15lb Sunline Natural for buzzbaits. Not a fan of braid with buzzbaits for some reason.

Question on how to divy up the rod/reel budget
This was my first year fishing from a kayak and after some advice and my own trial and error, I found that I like to take one setup or maybe two. I like to keep as simple as possible. The setups I like to use the most are a St. Croix Avid 7' MH and a Shimano Curado or a G. Loomis 783C GLX with a Shimano Core 101MG. Both can handle just about anything. If I was picking new a setup, the Curado and St. Croix Avid would be my pick.
- Did I just purchase a fake Loomis nrx??

Cold Weather Jacket Question
I am kind of ill built and don't mind a slim/athletic fit if the shoulders fit. I wear a 34-36in pant and a 48-50 sport coat. Most clothes fit me like a tent. I have found a few things at Duluth Trading Company that fit (jeans and athletic fit shirts) but I have reached the point where most jeans won't fit me either.

Cold Weather Jacket Question
I have a few. My issues is that my arms are generally too big to have a base layer (like a polar pullover) but a thin one, like the Patgonia Capilene or the Smartwool 250 seem to work. I still have issues with the shirt getting hung up in the sleeves. I have a few shirts with those weird thumb holes but I would rather be able to wear a flannel shirt or something more my speed. It feels like some of the jacket fits have changed as well. I use to be able to wear some of the athletic cut jackets but the shoulders and arms are too tight now and they're too loose around the belly. It's almost as though the manufactures (Arcteryx, Marmot, North Face, Mammut, Patagonia, etc) don't make the athletic fit for athletes. It use to be that the sleeves and shoulders were bigger and the jacket through the waist was slimmer. I guess I am just getting old and frustrated that nothing seems to fit me right.

Question for new combo set-up
2.0z, you're getting to swimbait weight. I am not sure the SLX is equipped to handle something that big. When I tried it out, it reminded me more of a finesse reel. I would look at a Shimano Cardiff, Calcutta, Tranx, Daiwa Lexa, and maybe the Abu Garcia Beast or the Winch.

Cold Weather Jacket Question
So I was looking for a cold weather (30 degree) jacket and when I found a few that I liked, I noticed that they had no insulation in the sleeves. I don't think I can recall ever seeing a jacket that was insulated through the body but no insulation in the sleeves. Why would companies make a jacket like this? What purpose do non-insulated sleeves serve?

Bass Fishing Trip during Christmas Week
Fished Okeechobee on a tour when I took the family to Disney over Christmas many years ago. It was a blast. I hate to say it but the fish in the area we went to seemed to be like pets. We could see one 5lb+ bass after another but nothing big would bite on what I usually fish here (soft plastic, crankbaits, etc). The guide had me go to live bait and the bite was on. At $20 a doz. for shiners, I would be prepared to go through 4 doz. or so, easy.

Should I go fishing this week?
I say go for it. Fish until your body and mind says no or if the pond is frozen.

Free Aussie
Hope things workout. Sure is a good looking dog. We had a husky aussie mix and it was high energy, all go and no stop, athletic dog. We trained her to go on a leash next to me when I road my bike since our daily 5 mile walk would just get her warmed up. The long bike ride at good pace and a weighted vest was needed to wear her out.
