In the early morning I like using softplastic, worms, senkos, lizards, etc,. Then I go into jerkbaits and cranks. By end of the day I'm back to softplastic again. But normally when the fish are hungry in early spring it doesn't matter what you through, they will eat anything.
  4. Sounds like you got a great deal on a very nice truck.
  5. Very cool. How did you get to meet these guys? Several years ago I got meet and have a brief meal with Bill Clinton and his followers. He was not what I expected. He seemed human and down to earth. He loved to talk about sports and fishing. When I asked him a political question he smiled and sayed, "Ask me later, I'm on break."
  6. Cheaters do win in this modern world.......But they get to go into hiding when they are required to attend a congressional hearing or a Pro Bowl. ;D
  7. The oldest functioning reel I have is a Ryobi big surf spinning reel from the early 80's. It has plastic spools and don't think it has a single ball bearing in it. I also have the orginal Zebco Bullet and an original Zebco 33. At one time I thought I had some state of the art equipment.
  8. If your on a budget of $50, I would hunt for a good deal, save your money or maybe pick up a used one. As far as bargains go, I was able to pick a Shimano Curado 201 BSF for $40 and a Shimano Calcutta 251 for $35. Both were new. Just keep your eyes open.
  9. If you're going to look at the Loomis rods, I would consider getting the MBR783 IMX. This rod could handle both small to medium cranks and just about any soft plastic. Which ever one you pick, take your reel with you and mount to the rods your thinking of. That way you can pick which one feels best.
  10. The guy also has 100% feedback from some good buyers. I don't get it. A few of the buyers have stores and a large amount of transactions.
  11. Like the saying goes, "There's a sucker born every minute." I find it hard to believe that a large online company, like ebay, would allow this sort of thing. The bad part is somebody out there will probably bid on it.
  12. IMHO, they all work. I prefer a 1/4oz that matches the color of the bait I'm using but I do mix it up and try a contrasting color from time to time. My favorite jig setup is a black 1/4oz tru tungsten weedwacker and a Green Pumpkin/black flake or Black with blue flake GYCB Hula Grub.
  13. Just from personal experience, I would stick with the reels that are house reels or endorsed by Quantum. It is not to say it not a good reel but it seems to be harder to find parts and service for these reels. IMHO, they also seem to be more hype than substance.
  14. Well...except the handle is on the wrong side! :
  15. No kidding....... I having been trying a couple of new lines year for about 7 years now and some of the lines I have tried have come and gone but a few are still around. I can remember when Trilene XL came out and it was the greatest line ever. It seems it is just ordinary line by today's standards. Oh ya, I am planning to try the Microfuse some time this summer. I did see that the Super Braid is clearanced out at Dicks. Are they discontinuing it?
  16. I like Max tube hooks and my personal favorite is the Phantom tube hooks from Owner.
  17. I stopped by my local Wal Mart and they had zero for clearance fishing items. I had mentioned some of the deals that I read about on this thread and they sales guy thought I was crazy. He even scanned a few items, including Power Pro line. Not on sale. >
  18. Found a good deal and I thought I would share... Gander Mountain has Mann 1- for $1.99. They had probably a dozen or so good colors.
  19. Same here....... No Academy near Indy yet. Those sure are a great deal for $5. Are they productive as other cranks, LC, Rapala, etc.?
  20. I have an older 251 Calcutta and it has been bullet proof me. It is just a solid reel, no issues what so ever.
  21. I got to use one of these for a whole day and out of the BPS reels I have tried it is the only one I cared for. It was easy to use, casts well, pretty smooth, and I didn't get any backlashes all day. For $40, that sounds like an excellent deal.
  22. I thought at first that the Superbowl was going to a be a blow out but it ended up being a great game. I just love it that the Pats lost and both Mannings were present. With all the BS aside, it was a great game. One of the best I have seen in years.
  23. I have been using a Jansport 2Day hiker backpack and a BPS Extreme soft plastic bag. If you weigh the two, it is about 40-50lbs all together.
  24. LOL....... What intern did they dig up to write that article? These "TOP" whatever lists always are way off. I can't believe Field and Stream actually published this. I have been a subscriber off and on for years and this ones is one of the worst aticles I've ever seen.
  25. I have to go with the Citica as well. Solid and easy to use.
