It is harder to pee in a kayak if you don't carry a trucker's jug. Even then it can be dicey unless your stream-control is up to snuff. The yaks with lawn chair style seats make it far far easier. It's worse in winter when you are in a drysuit. Even the ones with a relief zipper are a huge pain. It's not so bad if you are out somewhere where you can beach the yak and do your business in the brush.

Eh, I see it more an enjoyable way to tinker and fuss with gear to get it to do stuff it otherwise wasn't really intended to do. Sure, if money or my next meal was on the line, I would grab a spinning combo every time. In BFS news, I just picked up a Kuyin Teton 6" UL casting rod. So far I have been working every daylight hour so I haven't had a chance to mess with it. I have a PX68 with a DIY spool in it and I hope it will work for 3" senkos, weightless 4' finesse worms, and small inline spinners.

I had the same question, so naturally I did the reasonable thing and bought two rods. The first is a ML/MF-F Major Craft rod that I got for jerkbaits and small cranks. I have caught a few bass fishing lightly weighted Fat Impacts on it already, so I am going to give it a go for senkos and flukes this year to see how it works. The other rod is a MH/F that I bought for jigs and weighted worms, but my yard testing seems to indicate that it will toss senkos and heavier flukes just fine. I also have a M/FX spinning rod that I had made up just for weightless plastics, so that will likely fill the role when I take out more then one rod.

Hah, well, that happened early in the morning, so I was only maybe 24oz in.

As an avid outdoor drinker, I was all excited about getting a Yeti cooler until I saw one in the store and realized the reason that they keep ice for so long is that the walls are twice as thick as an Igloo. $300 to keep a single 12 pack cold killed the excitement.

I fish out of a kayak and there are a bunch if really nice PFDs out there for the yakak crowd. Many of them have pockets and such like a flyfishing vest and the model I am currently drooling over has a stowable rain hood and a beer can holder. I do a ton of wade fishing as well, almost always alone, and this spring I am going to buy one of these and wear it whenever it is cold enough for waders.

I haven't been fishing long enough to have forgotten anything, but man I am taking notes, especially about the beloved worms of yesteryear. I am going to give the t-rigged worm a good go this season and already have some Productos, Jelly Worms, and Culprits, so I feel like I am on the right track.

I drink it with heavy cream when I can get it, it's like a milkshake that keeps you awake! Over the summer/fall, I was up to between 60-80 ounces of coffee a day. It was a little out of control, but no where near as bad as my father, who told me that when he was a young man working two jobs he would fill and and drink his half gallon thermos two or three times a day.

Went on a little JDM rampage the other day; I love the Decoy jigs, they work great for grubs, small paddle tails, and weedless Ned Rigs. I prefer them to the Owner Ultraheads as I feel the vertical line tie helps me keep it just off the bottom. The weights are to make up some Jika Rigs with straight shank hooks. And the tail spin lure was just to funny looking to pass up. I like to keep a few "loud" lures on hand for when I am really skunked. Annoyingly, JDM rods don't come with hook keepers. I don't like the fiji ones as they will not let you hook a buried point t-rig on them. These do, but I swear they looked more red and less pink online. This is the second time I have ordered Keitech plastics not realising how small they will be. These will go into the pile with the 3-4 packs of 2" Impacts I bought last year. Maybe I will devote more time to panfishing this year. In anycase, it looks like they also sell a 3.5" MadWag, and that looks more like what I want. The reason for the overseas order, a Zillion SV TW XXH. It was somehow cheaper, even with shipping, to order from over there. I have the reel mounted on this guy; And man, I cannot wait to be able to hit the water.

I owned an AeroPress for a while and never got into it. I never seemed to find the sweet spot in terms of grind. Too coarse and it would be too thin, too fine and I would have to have someone stabilize my mug while trying to force the plunger down. Switched to a single cup pour-over and couldn't be happier.

Welp, you guys have convinced me. I just started replacing almost all my trebles with single hooks/barbless trebles and I am already sick of fussing with the cheap pliers I have now.

Man, the fights that will happen the first time someone gets their tether cut by another boat and loses their $2000 drone are going to be insane.

Has anyone here tried to wacky rig the BigTRD? I've had some luck wacky rigging the hula sticks, but they only really give a good action once they've softened up a bunch.

I think I know the lake you're talking about, I've hiked the trail there and at the attatched state forest a bunch of times, but only have limited fishing experience in the lake. The riprap area was one of the only spots that really produced for me, but it's brutal out there in any kind of sun. I keep meaning to drag my kayak down there or at least find a nice cloudy day to dedicate to it from the bank. I haven't read a lot of positive fishing reports about that spot, but I also never see people fishing anywhere other than the small area between the parking lot and the dam, so that's a heck of a lot of unpressured shoreline just waiting out there. I fish couple spots in the Northern part of Southern Maryland, and if you shoot me a PM I'll dump whatever I know on you.

The only thing I am especially good at is being willing to suffer ticks, thorns, sore feet and ruined clothing getting to places that most other people don't fish at. Even living in a super built up area, I swear I never see other fishermen more than a half mile from parking spots. I have started carrying a small pair of pruning clippers and they are becoming as indispensable as my rod on some outings. I am going to catch a fine from DNR some day over it, but so long as I only cut invasive plants/fast growing thorns I will claim the moral high ground. Now if I can get better at catching once I get there, then I will be onto something.

My work involves a lot of planning and record keeping, so my desire to do so in my free time is pretty much zero. However, this coming season I am going to start weighing the nicer looking ones to get an idea of what different weights look like, just for personal curiosity. In addition to taking pictures of fish, I am going to start taking pictures of productive spots and lures. All the photos on my phone get uploaded with a date/time stamp to cloud storage, so I can go back and look at what I was catching where and with what on any given day. I ended up accidentally doing this over the summer and it helped me realize something about a spot I fish all the time, but never had consistent luck at. Looking as some old pictures showed me a pattern that I had not noticed before.

I was firmly in the "I don't need a baitcaster" camp for a long time. I had bought a BB1 and while it is a great reel, I was struggling with it. On a whim I bought a PX68, which is a much smaller reel. That was when the light bulb went on. The smaller reel was so so much easier for me to cast with and I quickly gained proficiency and confidence. Even going back to the BB1, while it is still too big, I can take what I learned with a smaller reel and apply it to the larger one. While I am still far more accurate with my spinning combos, I have grown to really enjoy baitcasters as well and am getting more and more of them to compliment my spinners.

I have gotten the occasional fish on the warmer days fishing whatever shallow and warm spots I can find on the larger bodies of water. It looks like this Thursday and Friday might be decent temperature wise.

Actually you saved me (a small amount) of money as I went with a smaller reel. Most of the time I post a topic it ends up costing me $200.

The rod came in today and oh man is it nice. With a 3/8oz tungsten weight tied onto 8lb YZH, I can feel each seam as I drag it across our brick floor. Tried the same thing with a low end Abu rod and I can't really feel anything other than the really crooked ones. Spring cannot come soon enough!

Guys, thanks a lot of all the help and advice. My jig rod came in today (a CR 723 IMX) and after playing with it I have a much better sense of what weights and such to look for. I played around with different jugs, weights, and plastics, and am ready to make a nice big order from Siebert.
