People have been attaching video cameras to down riggers for years to capture video of fish following and grabbing baits. The article does not state whether the drone swims free like a flying drone or tethered to a boat. 

Here's another pic from The Verge. And @Scott F it does
look like its tethered in this pic.

 

Except for the fact that he's not wearing a PFD, I could see
this being @A-Jay in his hey day

I would too, if I lived where that waters were clear (like FL)!  

Next is gonna be a MegaMan suit where I can just go down there n blast em n take em home with me

You played MegaMan as well? That was one of my favorite video games to play when I was a child. As for going down and blasting fish there's a sport called spearfishing that you can do and is extremely fun(where you are allowed to).

I have dived days where the ocean vis was over +100 feet, its paradise down here for anyone who loves the outdoors!

@soflabasser yes sir..  MegaMan , donkey Kong, and sonic the hedgehog pretty much made up my childhood gaming lol. 

 

I did get the chance to scuba dive ! In Cozumel one time. It was awesome . And my tab on the beach ended up being 440 pesos . Lol. I was really worried for a moment. No spear fishing though. Bucket list for sure.

From the looks of the picture with @A-Jay's younger self, 
it looks like it's a break away rig or something. You move the
drone to where fish are, once the bait is taken, you set hook,

rinse and repeat.

 

At least that's how I interpret what I see in the pic. 

yeah - its not fishing in the sporting sense is what i meant. im sure i could have fun doing that for a few hrs but i wont have the same feeling the night before or morning of a long fishing day. playing with different baits its part of the fun. theres fun in the challenge too? cool little sub though

Only two to three thousand dollars? What a steal! I'll take 7. 

When a bass pro uses one in a tournament it will hit the fan and be declared legal or illegal.

Being first-to-market doesn't necessarily mean "the best", but it usually means "the most expensive".

 

I expect to see dozens of copycats at ICAST this year, with more innovations and lower prices.
