I used to feel bad about all the tackle I have laying around, but when covid killed my industry last March it was really really nice to know that I could fish for a few years w/o spending an additional dime, other than a spool on line now and then.

I have never tried that, but when rigging Senkos on an EWG I will sometimes bury the eye into the worm and secure it by pushing a small bit of 80lb mono through the eye and cutting it flush with the plastic.

Well if we’re picking lures based on the need to smuggle one into a POW camp, then I’m going to have to consider my answer very carefully.

Hah, I just started watching Columbo the other day, it's amazing! I am a big detective fan and I don't know how I missed it for so long.

I was given small amounts of Old Crow as a teenager on Christmas by a beloved redneck Uncle, so I keep the faith and try to have a bottle of it always on hand. It's hot as hell and about as smooth as a dull razor, but it's sippable and pairs well with a hoppy IPA. Otherwise, Old Grandad 100 proof is a very nice high-rye sipping whiskey, if you add small splash of water to lower the ABV down to a more reasonable 90-80 proof.

They get bit for sure, but they seem to get snagged very very easily. I keep looking around for a jighead that I can pair up with a 2.8" Fat Impact to try and make a cheaper version but the heads I am finding cost enough to make it pointless. Some day I am going to try to tie a "V" weedguard on one made from super thick mono, but my tying skills are a bit lacking at the moment.

I think we are talking about different points of time during the fishing process. What I mean is that when I am fishing a tip-up presentation with slack in the line, I am holding a casting combo with my left hand palming the reel with either all of, or three of my fingers under the reel. The rod butt is not touching my body so that there is less to dampen any vibrations transmitted up the line/rod to my hand. In that case, the fulcrum point is clearly at the real seat and not at the rod butt. When I detect a bite, I clench the rod between arm and body in anticipation of the hookset, changing the fulcrum point. I still don't know if that truely moves it all the way back to the rod butt rather then to some point in between the reel seat and butt., which is why we need someone who knows the math, has the equipment, and wants to be a youtube star to step up and make us some videos.

TBH I was a little disappointed to not see a dude covered in sensors eating pavement. As we are well off topic, this is a fav of mine, using sumo wrestlers as the subjects.

To cross over into the "YouTube Influencer" thread, I would absolutely love to see some videos covering the various mechanics of fishing from a physics perspective. I have seen other videos where athletes are wired up to sensors so the various forces can be recoded and visualized, I bet something like that would be really popular. Back in '19 I was looking at getting a very short frog rod and had one of the CAD people at work figure out for me how much less line a 6' rod vs a 7' one will move per inch of arc. I sadly lost the drawing she did for me but it was very surprising how much it was and it was very helpful in justifying to myself the purchase of a very fast reel.

I don't feel like it's a true class III as the effort is created either entirely at the fulcrum point (pistol gripped/short gripped rods) or a combo of at the fulcrum and behind it, using your forearm to support the rod butt letting you use more of your arm to apply the effort. TackleTour uses "balancing torque" to describe rods, I can't find the formula, but the idea is to measure how much force it takes to keep the tip parallel to the ground when balanced at the middle of the reel seat.

A Zoom Super w/ a 3/0 Owner Lightwire hook weighs just a tiny bit over 5/16, so at the lower end of a lot of "standard" baitcasters, but with a proper rod and some skill, it should be completely doable.

Given MB's generals sense of whimsy when it comes to rod names, I have to believe they were fully that they were naming their rod after farts, but it would be funnier if they weren't.

The weirdest thing to me about the new rods seems to be the lack of blank contact under the reel seat. I am sure the EVA insert makes that minimalist seat more comfortable, but I am very suspicious of the sacrifices in both balance and ergonomics they seemed to have made to chase a lighter overall rod weight. I would much rather have a rod that is an ounce or so heavier but has a comfortable seat and balances on the locking nut w/o a reel.

Hah, I am totally the opposite, my pack weighting 20.5lb vs 20lbs isn't noticeable enough to worry about, but I a rod has to be pretty amazing in every other aspect for me to get past it being too tip heavy.

I use a good bit on Mend-It and have given up using the brush and instead use toothpicks to apply it. As others have said, it will melt thinner plastics and over applying it can make a rip worse as it can cause the "wound" to open up more. I have also found that the brush can bring bits of plastic back into the bottle, which can cause it to gum up and become unusable after a time.

The new spinning reel seat has my attention, I hold a spinning rod with my entire hand in front of the reel stem, which really really limits my rod choices. Hopefully they come out with a shorter ML/XF.

"Bad Influencers" have always been around, but I think kids had to work a little harder back in the day to find a bad influence. I grew up pre/early internet and pretty much every bad habit I had/have was likely sparked by something I had read, often in a book from my dad's collection. I know I first started smoking (filterless Pall Malls) due to reading a ton of Vonnegut when I was in my teens, Bukowski got me drinking bottom-shelf wine by the gallon, Huxley and Thompson got me to try psychedelics, the list goes on. Kids/young adults are always going to find inspiration to do things that they shouldn't, what's important is that they have been taught to not blindly accept everything they see and hear but to look at things with a critical eye, which is maybe the greatest thing my parent's taught me.

Blades and good swivels are expensive, much more so then skirt material and weedguard material.

I think there was a great white in the Chesapeake Bay a few summers ago, but one shark in 4500 square miles is something I can live with. Even poisonous snakes are rare around here, I have seen a single copperhead in like 6-7 years of constant hiking/fishing and my friend who is a bio field researcher and an avid hiker only sees one every other year or so.

I guess there is one thing that I love about living in the mid Atlantic, which is "being at the top of the food chain". Other then fairly rare black bears, there is nothing in the woods or water around here that is going to be able to do more then bite a toe off. It's always a bit jarring to travel somewhere else and have to remember that I need to pay attention so I don't get eaten.

Every year I hate the winter more and more, even the mild MD winters are killing me. Sadly, my wife has a business in the museum/fine art industry, so that drastically limits where we can live, more or less the mid-Atlantic or Chicago. As much as I love an Italian beef, I have spent enough time in Chicago in winter to ever want to live there, so I am trying to find ways to be happy here. I think a lot of what bothers me is how wet the last few winters have been. Wet and hot are fine, cold and dry are fine, but wet and cold makes any outdoor activity a lot less enjoyable for me. Like today, I have the day off and could do most anything I want, but it's going to be raining/sleeting all day, so here I am, on the couch, drinking coffee and pontificating on the internet. If it was a nice dry snow, then I would be out hiking.

I use the B10 S hooks for most all of my wacky and neko rigging and have never had an issue with setting the hook. I use pretty light tackle as well, ML to M rods and 7lb-10lb straight fluoro. The 1/0 size is fairly large compared to most other wacky hooks, which I like as has almost eliminated gut-hooked bass and I seem to get more solid roof of the mouth hooksets and less hooked lips.

I save all my boxes because I have noticed that reels sell for more when you have the box. I hate it though, they take up a ton of my somewhat limited tackle storage space. Same deal with those cloth covers that a lot of JDM rods come with. They seem so pointless, you can't use them with any rod storage system I have ever seen and I would far rather pay a few bucks less per rod then to have them. I have a big old box of them as well, just sitting there taking up space.
