There are already fancy ones out here, at least overseas. “Meiho Versus” is a jdm brand and there is a really high in German box system whose name escapes me, but hard-core wargaming nerds rave about them for holding all of their little cardboard tanks and infantry units.

I use a small hiking pack for longer days and a FishPond Summit sling for shorter ones. The sling is way more convenient but the pack carries the same weight with far far more comfort. For both I carry a small dry bag for all my first-aid/comfort/personal items. I don’t take a spill very often but I feel really smart when it does save me.

Wow, that’s bigger then I expected. Do you know if the XT is on a different frame as well? It’s a bit heavier then the base model but not as much as the DC is.

I use a ton of the EZ and Big EZ swimbaits and I agree that a twistlock is 100% the way to go with them. I swap out to a large centerpin on the Big EZ’s and get incredible plastic life, the baits more or less last until the tail gets bit off.

I wanna say that 13 already tried to sell a $600 range rod a few years ago, *** maybe? Hah, that must be it as it’s still on the naughty list.

Didn’t even that of that, that does make them more appealing as I am also not a 100% fan of the GLX seats.

Slider heads were one of the first jigheads I used and looking up info on them lead me to the world of MWF. Both that and Slider fishing were what got me catching bass consistently. I still use Slider heads all the time, they the best I have found for thinner plastics.

It’s good to see them coming back, especially the CR models, but the msrp on the Pros is so high that it puts you in striking distance of the GLX versions.

Plat has some of the Alphas CT models for like $210. They only have the slower one in stock in RH, which has saved me from buying one.

It’s a large reel for sure. The sv105 is noticeably smaller, mostly in width. While I would not say the sv103 is “uncomfortable”, I find it does fit my hand on a much smaller range of reel seats/grips then the sv105/Alphas reels, which have almost universally been comfortable for me.

The screw in weights rip out super fast due to the weight pulling, the owner screwlock keepers give insane plastic life. I swap out every screwlock hook/jig I own to them. I can’t post it on my phone, but I have posted a pic here before of a Super Fluke rigged on a Owner twistlock. The hook and nose of the fluke are completely pulled through the middle of the plastic due to a pickerel smashing it. Even turned inside out the screwlock held tight.

I an old Wiebe-seat mbr 782c that I would like to have the guides replaced on. The factory ones are pretty clunky and one of them is mismatched. It’s doesn’t seem to affect anything but I cannot stop starting at it. My hope is that replacing the factory guides with something smaller and lighter will make the rod feel a bit more lively and balance more tip-up. How big of a project is this?

Maybe 90% of the time? I enjoy fishing hardbaits at times but a weightless plastic or a jig is most always what I start with and usually what I stick with.

It's a Fat Ika. I did get one this year when it grabbed a jig off the bottom.

I fish alone most of the time not by choice, but due to having a non-standard work schedule. I do very much enjoy fishing with other people however. From a practical side, two people fishing two different presentations can figure things out faster. Even when fishing "alone", most of the suburban ponds that I fish have other regulars and I am friendly enough with a few of them that we will fish together for a bit when we run into each other and will share intel. I also just enjoy talking about fishing in general as no one I know is really interested in it, so I am most always game to fish-n-chat on the water when I run into another sociable fisherman.

If my 783c got slammed in a car door tomorrow I would give a lot of thought to upgrading, but I really want to get a few dozen casts on one first.

I am a huge MBR fan but I don't think there's any way I would buy a Conquest without being able to fish with one first. With the GLX's I can already feel a jig being dragged through soft mud as if I was seeing it with my eyes, so I can't even get my head wrapped around what else "more sensitivity" could bring to the table. I've held them with a reel mounted a couple times and the balance and general feel is incredible, but that is an awful lot of money for a graphite rod with some cork glued to the end of it. I wish there was somewhere like was like those shooting ranges in Vegas where are you can spend 50 bucks and put a couple of magazines through Uzi or whatever, but instead with high-end fishing tackle.

And above all this you have bamboo fly rods! I love fancy tackle because I love fancy tools/mechinacal things in general and fishing tackle is way cheaper then classic cars or custom guns.

I swear that I saw the 721c onsale at ALF the other day, but it might have been a 1 day thing. I fear Loomis is discontinuing the CR line as they have been really slow to restock recently. A ModF rod should be good for most fine-wire jig hooks as most of them are not much thicker then a beefy treble. I kinda like a softer/lighter rod for wading as it helps keep fish pinned while I am getting myself situated to land and release them. I should be free around the 22nd and hope to spend most of that week fishing, so we could meet up then.

Sure, I can't fault them for riding the wave of fishing-video money while then can, but I cannot wait for the "bubble" to burst and to see if people go back to more in-depth and nuanced stuff. All I really watch now are Japanese fishing videos, can't understand anything they are saying but on average the music they use is more interesting.

Him being an archivist makes a lot of sense. I love his style of writing and very much love very detailed reviews. Most fishing videos these days are just product announcements or such broad stroke overviews that I don't really learn anything from them. I used to really like Tactical but they seem to be slipping into that trap as well. I blame the need to push out a 3-4 videos a week for the dilution of content. Bass fishing is a vast topic for sure but for me the only way to keep it interesting to read about is to dive into the details.
