First step to getting kayak/canoe done
Darren and Goose thanks, I have considered the 14' Sportspal, the only difference in the US made version is 10 lbs over 12'. The reality is 90+% of time I would be by myself so I figured the shorter would be fine most of time. Goose, I plan to put troll motor on Sportspal, but for days I leave it at home, how is paddling the 12' sportspal by myself, is it a royal PITA? Also Goose, How durable is your Canadian version, do you fear tears or rips? How careful to you need to be with it? The canadian version is 14 lbs lighter than US 12', and 17lbs lighter for 14'. How careful do you need to be? Darren the KC has a layout a little more friendly for second person, the seat can be pushed way back and another added up front, but point well taken on tightness.

First step to getting kayak/canoe done
Been thinking of kayak or canoe for quite some time, goals is to make decision in next 30 - 45 days. This past week end I had delivered a pair of Rhino-Rack RSP27 roof racks and installed onto my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now all I need is something to put on them. My base needs are: Lightweight holds 2 people allows accessories/troll motor Wide enough and stable enough to stand fishing The two finalists are a 12' Sportspal canoe and a 12' KC Fishing Kayak, both meet my needs and each has few plus/minus over other. Costs about the same. If anyone has experience with either I would appreciate your comments on them. Thanks

Recommdendation for VA
I live outside richmond, the smaller ponds were still frozen over yesterday even with air temps of mid-60's. I did go to larger lake that wasn't frozen, water temp was mid 40's and very windy. In one small pond I found a 100x20' open water patch where creek was gushing in, water temps were mid 40's. I got nothing except for nice day throwing bait....and smoking a cigar:)

Going Absolutely Crazy!!!
Went yesterday for two hours, only open water was where stream fed into pond, it created 100' long 20 wide narrowing to 5 feet wide trail until more ice, I fished that 100x20' path with everything I had for 2 hours straight and nothing. Temps were even in 60's, water was 47 dropping to 43, so I thought for sure there be bass congregating there.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Over the past couple weeks its been too cold to fish so I decided to organize tackle box and see what I had and what I needed. Since I only started bass fishing last Sept. my focus organizing was to fill in holes in the tackle area and replace lost lures. After going thru my small amount of tackle I added the following recently to cover all the conditions/situations I fish? Dobyns 684CB paired with Lew’s Team Lews Lite Speed Spool TLL1SH Baitcaster 7.5:1 JB Custom 7’ Frog N Rat paired with Lew’s Team Lews Lite Speed Spool TLL1SH Baitcaster 7.5: Megabass Pop Max GG. Bass Megabass Pop Max Gill Baby 1-Minus Elite Baby Bass Baby 1-Minus Elite Baby Foil FLK Shad Livingston Pro Wake Chartreuse Sunrise Shad Livingston Pro Wake Gold Digger Livingston Primetyme CB 2.0 Chartreuse Sunrise Shad Livingston Primetyme CB 2.0 Spring Craw Gary Yamamoto Chikar Crankbait Floating Goldfish Jigs - various both *** and Dave's Duo Realis Spinbait 80 Tightlines UV-Beaver Green Red Flk 4" Sweet Beaver 4.20 Green Pumpkin Powerbait 2”, 5cm PowerGrub Pumpkinseed Replaced a couple spinners and buzz bait, and some senkos. And I also finally bought a digital scale:) Pretty minor compared to a lot of folks here but I am trying to keep bait monkey from moving into spare bedroom and only have stuff I know I will use. I am OK in most areas but I have gone way overboard with Jerkbaits.

favorite bass fishing lake and why?
I have two neighborhood ponds, not great but I can be from door to line-in-water in under 10 minutes on either pond. While not the biggest or most bass, they are consistent and convenient enough to go out before work, after work, on way to errands, coming back from errands, when bored at home and have as little as 30 - 60 minutes to kill, or have enough time to spend hours.

How Much Snow You Have?
Thank you all for comments, it is much appreciated. We had taken lights off a couple weeks ago and I haven't got around to taken down wreaths. And it was my wife's idea to take photo as she does want to use them for Christmas Cards next year. Very poetic and I only wish true. It was actually taken around 11am with digital camera. I just point and shoot it as I can't figure out all the settings.

Gloomis E6X 884c swimbait rod ...
No, but I have the E6x "843 C CBR" for crank baits. I love mine, I was losing a lot of fish off a cheaper rod but the bend on this really pins the fish.

How Much Snow You Have?
Total close to 10" outside Richmond, VA. This picture was taken Sunday, and after my first shoveling at about 4-5" or so, a second storm came Saturday and dropped another 5-6" which I shoveled after this pic. For us in lower VA this might as well as been 5' because everything is shut down.

Last 8 Trips....no Bass. I Need Help
A lot of good ideas here. I was were you are. Casting to center of lake/pond not too productive but I really started doing better casting parallel to shore and weed lines. Caught most in shallower water. Out farther in deeper water cranks and jerk baits can be productive, but parallel to weeds lines and shore more productive per my experience.

East coast storm, how were you affected
We got 6-7" yesterday followed by sleet most of night, up to 3-5" expected today. Last night we had to drive 50 minutes to small rural area. Left 9pm got their 11'ish. We helped a jeep CJ get out of ditch. On way back helped another car get unstuck. VDOT did nice job keeping main roads open but secondary and side were really bad. I have a 1.5 ton jeep grand cherokee with all terrain tires and it did great, no problems what so ever but was going well below speed limit, very very few people out there. I keep 2 sets of rescue tracks and tow rope in my jeep year round and yesterday they saved the day for a few people. We saw a couple cars being pulled out and 1 JGC. It was a lot of fun driving though the snow and I love testing my 4-wheel drive in bad conditions.

Opens pro Ed Loughran Goes To Court To Defend His Right To Fish
I live across from one of our county's large reservoirs, its man made. the water and under it our public property but the shore is all private. Up until recently there was one area you could launch a small non-gas motorized boat but it was closed due to anglers trash. The land owner who was nice enough to keep this open for all to use finally got sick of picking up everyones trash. And truth be told I would have shut it sooner than he did. It was amazing how much trash people just throw on ground, and right next to our drinking water resevoir for crying out loud. FloridaFishinFool really touches on the solution and that is it is political. Right now anglers are not making enough noise to get things changed. If politicians don't fear their jobs they will not take us into account and open access to water on public property.

If I could get sponsors that would be awsome!
LOL, but so very true. I have 19 y.o. son, ever since he got first cellphone I would not accept texts from him that did not have proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and NO shortcuts. I think this reinforced some parental bounderies and burned into his mind the proper way to communicate when getting older. Now for my wife...."for getta 'bout it.......her texts are a case study in current hieroglyphics. She blames small keyboard and I gave up the fight with her years ago:)

Ruger .38 LCR
Sam, congrats on decision to carry. Our Attorney General has just voided VA's reciprocal carry agreements with many states so they are scheduled to do like wise. I think the legislature may fight this but probably losing battle because our Governor is anti-2nd amend. To fight this I am looking to take a local Utah Non-Resident Carry Permit which is valid in most southern states, except for Florida and NC, I think. Since our AG announced his decision I have seen a lot more classes for the Utah permit so people are quickly taking matters into their own hands.
