  1. The website is pretty vague. Looks like just color.
  2. Well the rod guides all passed the q-tip test so it must me the reel/line.
  3. That's my thought as well. And my backlashs are not that bad and rather than pull on the line, I work it out on the spool and then pull it through. The Suffix was 10# mono which is plenty tough. I'm thinking it may be a guide. Had that happen before on a spinnerbait rod. Lost 2 spinnerbaits before I clued in..lol
  4. Worth a look... I've had this before. Thank you!
  5. It seems that every time I get a birds nest my line mysteriously gets cut. Originally, I spooled up with 10# Suffix Elite Mono and it happened 2 or 3 times. The last time I lost a nice jerkbait. So I figured the line was crap so I re-spooled with 8# Big Game and low and behold, the same thing happened. The line was just severed so I'm wondering if there's something funny going on. I pulled the spool and I couldn't find any sharp edges either.. Thoughts? I love this little reel but I can't live with this.
  6. Unbelievable selection of SB/A- Rig rods.. The heavier ones would make great muskie stick. Looking for a reel recommendation for the DC 795 SB. I have a Chronarch Ci4 HG that I'd like to use.. 7:1 or should I look at getting something a bit heavier? Thoughts?
  7. Snaps catch weeds but are sure convenient. Saying that, I do use small quality snaps (w/o swivel) for most shallow and top running hard baits. Mind you a Palomar knot is very fast and easy to tie.
  8. Keep in mind that rod power is in relation to the application. The 735 and 765 are both "5" power yet the 735 is Mag hvy and the 765 is Med Hvy. Confusing? The rod power is in the context of the application. Notice how the line lure weight rating is higher for the 765. The 765 is MH in the context of a Flippin Stick, not a casting rod. Also, a good flippin stick will have the 1st guide further up the blank to give you more room when you pull the line back. therefore the 765 Flip should be your rod of choice. Regarding length, these rods are all designed to be used off the bow of a bass boat where a bit of extra length is nice. I use a 7"11 rod for flipping and frogs and I wouldn't mind going to over 8' lol.
  9. Hey Billy, nice combo My personal preference for this application would be 8lb floro... but that's not what you're asking is it! lol There's a ton of good braid out there and they all perform in a similar manner. Strictly for value, I'd spool up with the standard Power Pro in 15lb test. Put 100 yards or so of cheap mono on as backing as you want to fill the spool so you have maximum cast-ability. If you want to spend more, look to Seaguar Kanzen or Suffix 832. The only braid I'm not a fan of is Super Slick.
  10. As always things of this nature are very subjective. One thing you can't take away from MK is the way it integrates with the HB products. And as operationeagle noted, they are always improving. IMHO, When it comes to trolling motors, Motorguide is a distant second. I just wish the HB touch screen units were a bit more reasonably priced. The Helix units are awesome but touch screen adds a whole other level of convenience. The Solix series seems to be designed more around the off-shore angler yet it would be right at home on my Ranger Fisherman.
  11. No battle to pick. Find a new shop and spread the word. I had a shop take a month to repair a Terrova but they didn't make false promises. Anyone in the service business knows that its best to under-promise and over deliver.. At least to a point.
  12. i picke up up a new Ulterrra iLink BT a few weeks back and I'll say its impressive. I've previously ran a '13 Terrova iPilot and a '15 Ulterra iPilot. The new motor is more responsive and quieter. Going forward I'd like to see even better controllabilitly with the spot-lock as a wind plays havoc with it. Maybe better logic in the controller and a user select-able sensitivity that would allow greater, less frequent changes. Personally, I think there's merit to having the foot petal hard wired tho. One less thing to charge and a great backup in case the BT fails.
  13. I have 4 and have no reason to replace any of them. 6'6" Med. Goldwing Spinning - Circa 1985 and still going strong. paired with an original Daiwa Whisker SS1300. I don't really use it any longer but I'll never get rid of it. I think the rod was $120 back in the day. My first expensive combo. 6'3" elite tech smallmouth spinning. Great for shaky head, wacky, around docks, etc. 7'6" Aetos spinning ML, XF - my go to drop shot, neko rig, finesse setup. 8' elite tech muskie trolling. Big a$$ glass trolling rod
  14. For sure, its a best seller because its so versatile.. I guess I'm a bit concerned about using floro around lighter cover but 14# on that stick should be fine.
  15. Tire pressure - If you drive the speed limit keep them at the max. If you have radials, it doesn't hurt to inflate them about 10psi over, especially if you drive over 60mph on the interstate. In Europe, they have guidelines on how much pressure to increase based on speed. As radial tires flex, the faster you go the hotter they get. Therefore, add more pressure which means less flex and less heat build up. Otherwise, all the advise above is valid. One thing I would stress is the hubs/bearing. If you have the typical bearing buddy setup they are easy to replace. At a minimum, ensure there is no play and plenty of grease.
  16. I've been playing around with various rod/reel combos lately and I have a '13 Met HG that I want to try on my DC 734. I use this rod primarily for soft swimbaits (keitech), toads, and spinnerbaits. My question is, what are your thoughts on spooling this up with 14lb Sunline Super Sniper Floro?
  17. Yes, I think i've been through that before :/
  18. i mean pitching Thanks, I'll give this a try
  19. If I could have only one casting rod it would be a DC 734 FH. It was the first Dobyn's rod I purchased and now I'm Dobyn's pro staff. Just sayin'
  20. I've recently put a '13 metanium HG on my pitchin' stick (DX 745) and looking for advise on the best way to increase my pitchin distance. Can someone please help me with the best way to setup the SVS to increase pitching distance? I have the spool tension backed off and the SVS dial at 1. I think I need to turn off the red brake petals but which is off and which is on?? also, I think some other petals came with the reel, smaller white ones if I recall. TIA
  21. Crankenstein is what I use. Also check out the Dobyn's DC 805CB GLASS Paul Mueller Signature CB Rod which is also great for big lipless CBs and Swimbaits. Neither are under $100 tho. I found a new Stradic 2500HGS locally that looks about perfect. Shallow spool and all.
