I'm a huge fan of the made in Japan Shimano FG and FH Symetres . Solid and they don't have the binding issues later models have had. I've upgraded mine with carbon drags and they have performed well. I know it's 90's tech but they are available on Ebay and have never let me down.

I've been OCD big time with my gear,The best thing I've done is fish it hard and not worry about it. After a while You'll learn to appreciate the nicks and gouges. Tight Lines!

Love my Stradic FJ one of the best reels I’ve ever bought. The old made in Japan Symetres FG and FH are also rock solid.

I've always read online about the LTB's being tip heavy but I bought one anyway. My time with a 5'10' LTB has proved this false. I've had an older Shimano Symetre 2000 hung on it and it's well balanced.

I have the 5’10 LTB,I love it. Hung a Daiwa BG 2000 on it and it’s incredibly balanced. Not tip heavy like many claim the LTB’s are. I bought it to use from my kayak for Smallies. It throws any lure in its range with ease and I highly recommend it. Tight Lines.

I use a 1300 for cat fishing on the Great Miami. The drag is awesome and it’s a real pleasure to fish with. The absence of AR is not a big issue.

7’ St Croix LE Daiwa Tatula 2500 20lb Suffix 832

I use a Tatula 2500 on a 7’ St Croix LE and it couldn’t be more balanced,A real pleasure to fish with. I also regularly use a Stradic FJ which is an absolute tank and I consider it pretty much bulletproof. I used to be 100% Shimano,But the last three spinning reels I’ve bought have been Diawa. BG 2000 SS1300 Tatula 2500

Stradic FL 3000 and up have carbon drags already installed.

Sell the old ones and use the money to buy extra spools

This is the one I use.

I run straight braid when fishing the Great Miami River for Smallies and Sauger/Saugeyes. Braid with a leader when fishing gravel pits. One advantage since I’ve switched to all braid fishing rivers is that when snagged I can recover 95% of my lures. I take a small wooden dowel and use it to pull my lures free.Cheaper to replace a treble than buying a new lure.
