  1. I will probably take you up on that offer. Always better to have a local to show you the ropes. If I die without seeing another snowflake I'll be a happy man.
  2. Nothing. I wouldn't feel the need to disagree with you, and I especially wouldn't feel the need to attack you personally, swear at you, etc....
  3. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share. Getting ready to make the move from PA to Jacksonville FL and wanted to know if there is anything I should be aware of regarding bass fishing in FL? Anyone else make a move from the north to FL have any insight or tips/tricks/guidelines?

Missle Baits Shockwave. Great action and I caught 14 bass on a single one this spring. Full disclosure.....it was looking pretty scruffy after the 14th but still had a tail so I took it home, used mend it and caught a couple more the next day with the same swimbait. Not bad IMO
  5. Not hurt at all just surprised at how some responded. It was like they personally owned a high end rod/reel store and I was out front of their shop with a bullhorn trying to turn away prospective customers and take food out of their families mouths by having the opinion that you can do just fine on cheaper equipment.
  6. That was some creative editing. Tight lines. You said it man with the "ticking contest". Now I fully acknowledge there are certain situations where you need specialized or upgraded gear. Flipping 2oz weights and trying to haul out 10lbs of fish and 20lbs of salad.... yeah, a blackmax probably won't cut it. I more often than not though watch guys use a 200-400 dollar setup casting 15yrs to a lay down to pull out pounders. By all means, spend whatever on the gear you want. I was just trying to acknowledge the fact that you don't have to invest a mortgage payment into a rod/reel combo and got attacked. Now I know Facebook is a sanctuary for internet tough guys but I was surprised to see this from fellow anglers on a reputable fishing site. Flippantly answering a general question posed by a website is different from personal attacks. Just a odd exchange.
  7. Had something weird happen recently on FB. A site dedicated to bass fishing ran a article about how to choose a spinning rod/reel combo. Flippantly in the comments I posted "buy cheap. If you're spending triple digits and NOT getting 3 combos you're doing it wrong. I have a $15 combo that I use for any and all spinning applications and it has never failed me or failed to do what my buddy's rod (over $200 investment compared to my $15) could do." The hate and vitriol that came at me from multiple anglers was surprising to say the least. After being called a a-hole, a loser, a cheapskate, a piece of excrement, and being told by the one guy that he should turn over his business to me because he must be doing something wrong I figured I'd stop by here and see if anyone else has run into this? Ever find someone butthurt because you can do what they do only their setup costs 3 x as much as yours so they get upset?
  8. Well at least I don't feel crazy. I've found new ones for $230 (oddly enough, I've never seen a used one for less) at Walmart online and a couple other online suppliers. I actually did get a trolling motor with it, I may just stick with that if it's like you said and it's enough for the small lakes i fish. How long will a typical battery charge last for a smaller trolling motor?
  9. Just got a 12' jonboat and have been looking to put a tiny, and I do mean teeny tiny, outboard motor on it. If at any time it sounds like I have no idea what I'm talking about.... that's because I don't. This is my first boat and my first experience with anything related to boating. It's only rated for a 5hp but honestly I am looking for between a 1/2 & 3 hp motor.... something to slowly but steadily get me where I need to go on small lakes and ponds. To say that I'm shocked with the prices of even the smallest and used motors of this size would be a understatement. I don't know what the deal is but a outboard motor of this size seems little more than a lawnmower engine with a propeller......and for some reason I can't find even a used one for less than $200 (and most look on their last leg). Anyone know why outboards are so expensive? Or can point me in the direction of a cheaper supplier?
  10. Getting ready to go on vacation and wanted to see if anyone could point me in the direction of some bass ponds in the area. BTW: yes, I know of Google maps and have used it. Looking for a local to point me in the direction of a productive lake or pond.
  11. If all these suggestions fail may I suggest that you fish using live bluegill? Some tiny hooks and a microlight fishing setup will not only give you EXACTLY what the fish obviously want but then you get to fish for bluegill too. Win? Yeah, I'd like you to meet my other friend.....his name is Win too.
  12. I'm actually relatively new to the bass fishing scene. Only about 3 1/2 years and counting. Due to that, YouTube, and the limited fishing season in Western Pennsylvania my experience doesn't match my knowledge (example: I can tell you how to rig and fish a punch setup for heavy vegetation but have never actually done it). So I actually regularly experience fishing "firsts" that wouldn'tbe noteworthy to many others. Some firsts this year are.......first time keeping track of how many bass I caught this year (140 and counting) 1st bass on a lipless crankbait, first bass on a chatterbait, first bass on a swim jig (now my favorite type of lure), and this past week my first bass ever on a top water frog. Just wanted to thank you guys (or yinz, if you're from Pittsburgh as well) and BassResource.com for helping me learn the art and get more enjoyment from what has quickly become my passion and see if any of you are still experiencing "firsts" in bass fishing?
  13. Personally I cast back/retrieve once the exact same way and if no bite I'll vary the retrieve or angle of the cast.
  14. Got a black one 130 in my MTB last month. Caught my PB fishing it at night on a golf course and 11 other decent ones within 2hrs.
  15. Literally my first time was last night, still have the ER bracelet on as I type this....Whopper Plopper at night on a golf course while they were killing the top water.
  16. Yep, long sleeves, pants, deet based repellent, and possibly a buff if still having problems.
  17. First cast ever using a rattle trap and was in awe by how far it was flying........so much so that I didn't notice it heading for a branch about 30 ft above the water. Bye. Same day exploded another lipless crankbait against a dock.
  18. Everybody has "that friend". My biggest fishing buddy has some horrifically complicated knot that he ties.........I mean this thing takes 10min for him to tie and that's if he doesn't mess up. I've literally tied on my Palomar and had 3 bass before he gets his line in the water. On top of that he loses a good 10-15% of the fish he does get hooked because the knot comes apart. 3yrs of this and I don't even try anymore to persuade him to change knots, just smile and shake my head. Do you have a friend that does something while fishing that just makes you shake your head?
  19. Seriously, no matter what I try, I just can't do it with an epic birds nest. Not that I have top of the line equipment (Abu Garcia blackmax 1 or 2 not sure which) but it had failed me in any other situation in PA fishing. Any suggestions? Could it just be the equipment?
  20. Got a Lucky Craft Flashminnow in my MTB last month but on the box it said the running depth is <1ft....never seen that on anything but a square bill before and wanted to know if anyone had any tips or tricks for using?
  21. Not breaking the bank in any way, but a deal I couldn't pass up. The local field and stream store had Kimini crankbaits for 75% off. At 97¢ a piece I grabbed 7 of them.
  22. No, appreciate it, but this is the same list that I went off of. Either no response to multiple inquiries, WAY overpriced, or not really in the area. Nope, I see a need for a small time, low cost, but still fun and competitive bass club in the W. PA area and I'm going to see if I can fill it.
  23. Been looking for a bass club in the Pittsburgh/W. PA area and have been disappointed. Of the 3 I've found 2 failed to respond to multiple attempts to contact them and the third requires WAY too much money for entry/membership fees. So I've decided to start a small bass tournament club. Hoping for around 20 members for small but fun tournaments in the W. PA area. Facebook page will be up this week and first tournament will be April 9th at Cross Creek Lake entry fee $15.00 Pretty standard rules artificial lures only, top 5 bass count, penalties for dead/injured bass. Only rules that differ from the norm....no boats, shore fishing only, bass measured by length not weight. If you are interested please either post below or PM me, thanks!
  24. Just got my first 2 bottles in the mail today and dear god I cannot even put into words how stanky this stuff is. Don't do what I did and put your nose right up to it to smell.....like getting punched in the face with a fist full of garlic. Can't wait to try it out!
  25. My grandfather bought me a handgun and is having it sent to me. Does anyone know the law in PA for this to be legal? I have already applied for my CC permit and should have no problem getting it but didn't know the law to make it legal for me to own. Do I need to get it transferred, and if so how do I do this since my he's too old to make the trip up here?
