How did you catch your HUGE smallmouth?
mine was a 2lb. smallie in the portage river. i had a 5in watermelon w/ red flake senko rigged weightless. i saw a big log in the water and i casted by it and when i got up to it i hoped the bait over the log and as soon as i pulled up to hop it the smallie hit it. it was in august in the middle of the day.

I am having problems with color preserver it is darkening my thread a lot and making it look almost like it is wet. some parts are different shades, iwas wondering if any of you have any suggestions to fix this. thew bottle says you may dilute it do you do this? or is it a bad product it is FLex Coat color preserver and thread sealer. i was also thinking of maybe putting a metallic layer under it, but it seems it would be diffucult to get everything lined up doing this. PLease help me

Senkos for Smallies?
When fishing shallow water find big rocks sticking out of the water near the center. Cast down stream like Jomatty said and send it straight in to the rock and youll get a take. i like 5in in watermelon with red flake.

keeping guides in place and straight
while working on my rod the biggest problem i ran into was getting my guides in a perfectly staraight line. the rod i just finished they arent in a straight line they graully go to the left. i dont think if somebody picked it up they would notice but i do. also the first guide i did came out and didnt perfectly line up i was just wondering how you guys keep it straight. and finally when doing this i used masking tape and it didnt seem to do a very good job. i couldnt seem to put it on tight without moving the good and haveing to completely restart. and if i bumped it will wrapping it was a pain to put it back in place while i had line still hooked to it. i think this was why my guides didnt come out perfectly staraight. any help would be greatly appreciated

Got the book.. more Q's about building first rod
id just like to add not to turn you off to your idea or anything but.. i just finished my first rod. altogether with guides blank etc.. it was a little over $50. it is an ultra lite spinning rod. i have previous post with lots of pics and questions, i also read the book and posted some questions. even though as flechero told me im gunna focus in on that one mess up every time i pick it up . i learned a lot from just building a rod and asking questions on here as i go. but i learned a lot on wrapping and trim wraps just from doing it. and it didint really turn out perefectly right but for $50 i can live with it i was just saying you may not want to build a high dollar rod for your first rod. thisis just a suggestion.
