  2. well im back i caught a real nice 2 lb. smallie on a rebel crawfish and also a nice 4 lb. catfish on the rebel crawfish. 4 lb. cats are fun on ultra lite gear ;D
  3. well i havent got a response i was hoping id get a quick response so this would be off my shoulders. well im going fishing for a while to realx. i let you know how i do and i hope i come back to some responses.
  4. ok i got to thinking when i went to janns the guy asked me if i had a method of turning the rod slowly for drying i said no so he reccomended u-40 urethane finisher and so did tom kirkman in his book. so was i supposed to apply this before the color preserver? gosh i hope i dont have to redo all those wraps. :'(
  5. I put my second coat of color preserver on and it dryed and my threads color is orange you can see pic in my previous post new ro started and now there are black streaks and it is very dark. does it always darken the color? i thought it would just help to maintain the color not dyes it. i hope i dont have to redo all the wraps on my first rod :-/
  6. Reel mechanic i heard you saying that the rod muddy man boought the triumph which had a SCII blank on it was poor quality so im assuming the it is the way they put it together not the blank. but if this is poor quality i was looking at the G Loomis GL2 Mag Bass Castinbg rod it only comes in MH and H i was looking at the MH 6'6" for 71.95. Whast do you think of these blanks. i would rather save money so i can buy a reel for it but i want a good rod.
  7. hahaha when i was younger i used to walk around the river bare foot looking like huckleberry fin and catch bucket fulls of crawdads with my hands.
  8. HEre is a picture of the guide
  9. Flechero cant finish it this weekend i had to work all day today. :-/ but it gets me money for the new rod and reel . and tommorow i will be at the ohio state trapping convention. but here are some pics of where i am.
  10. HEre is the real seat and forgrip. this is much better shot of the hook keeper. I am thinking of my next rod already. it is going to be a soft plastic rod im thinkning a med. action. can anybody make a suggestion in a sensitive rod blank around $50. here is the link to the place i will be buying it from they are close to me so i dont have to order over internet i dont want suggestion from anywhere else.http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/rod-blanks-fishing/ i will be putting a shimano citica reel on it.
  11. Well being my first rod i didint want to go over $100. so the rod blank is a light action 5'6" it feels more like an ultra lite though. I think the company is AMerican Rod. the reel seat is a graphite reel seat by pacific bay and the handles are pre made. i have a lathe but i dont have a cork clamp and i want to take it one step at a time next project will have cork ring handle. how do you guys keep your guides in line do you just eyeball it? I really like working on it. here is a picture of my hook keeper. it has a brown trim you cant really see. sorry it is so blurry.
  12. I started my first rod 3 days ago i now have the grips and reel seat. I was suprised as it wasnt as hard it was more just tedious. tonight i started to put the hook keeper on i have one side done. I think it looks pretty good. I got the whole side wrapped and i messed up the lock on the end. i wasnt to mad i expected to do something like this i got it all wrapped good and i got a trim wrap on it. i have a question though can i do a butt wrap if i have a hook keeper? Battery is dead on digital camera i will post pic. tommorow
  13. is a gravel pit the same thing as a quarry?
  14. This my be a little off subject. but jim brought up road kill. my dad is an operating engineer (he runs heavy equipment). well he comes home with a mink and i asked where he got it he said a car hit. he didnt see it happen but when he checked it it was still warm. so westart a skinin him out and we gut past the arms and i thi8nk this boy got ran over by an 18 wheeler ;D his insides were mush. it smeeled to high heaven. and it was nasty to skin . if you havent ever opened up a minks gland try it sometime it black market claritin . Weel we finally get ehim skined. and i sold him at the auctions and he brought 21 so i think he was worth it
  15. you think its pretty funny but i know someone who bids on big swamps and marshes. he will bring in 2,000 muskrats and he will save all of their carcass' and sells them for around .50 apiece. All of you how arent math wiz's thats 1000. I trap muskrats and i sold all my carcass' to a guy down the street for a dollar. i have yet to try it. i have eaten coon however but it is quite rubbery and you have to boil it a lot to get the fat off. One thing i dont think i will eat is a coyote or a fox because if you do that you might as well eat your pet dog. ;D
  16. i mostly fish small rivers for small mouths. i LIke to wade the whole area you plan on fishing find the deep spots and stucture and then hen the river gets low thats were the bass are especially in the middle of the day. but i also like the rebel craw but my main lure is an origanal floating rapala i like them in the silver and black.
  17. Id have to say small mouth probably cuz i havent really caught many largemouth.
  18. i just finished reading it and it cleared everything up. its got my really pumped to start working on a rod. i want to make an ultralite rod. im not sure what size i think around 6 ft. i like longer rods they make fighting fish more fun but i need a short enough rod i can bank fish the river i live by. I want to do a decoratrive butt wrap but i dont want to do a diamond i want something unique. if anybody has a wrap suggestion and what book i can find it in for a unique but not to complicated wrap i would appreciate it. thanks
  19. I went to janns netcraft today and the guy working there reccommended Rod Building GUide by Tom Kirkman.
  20. like cpvenom said. We were going down a canal that heads in to theis big river. and it is all no wake. so we ar putting along get to the gates which are about 2 foot wider than our boat. And our lower unit is loose so it is loose enough to move a coupl inches so it is a pain to keep the boat straight going slow anyway get through the dam and some guy has his lines out for cat fish. 2 poles he just sits there and watches us. as we go across his lines one line snaps and the other pole goes in the water. he is still just standing there arms crossed with a dumb look on his face. so we kill the boat throw anchor. not mention there is a dam the runs right beside the locks. we are about 50 yds away from it we put the lower unit up and we look for the line but there is none. so we go to put the lower unit back down and it isnt working so we finally get it working and we leave. i dont think he was quite plum.
  21. HAHAH ;D im with the master of flukes
  22. ON lake Erie the bass are in schools but they are following schools of forage fish. my guess is that the bass from the same years hatch stay together because big bass eat little bass. so they may just stay together in the school. but i have also caught biger fish that seem to be loners.
  23. well the portage river. but it isn't the best fishing around here for big bass but there are a lot of em. and i just grab my bike put on my fishing partner and ride my bike to some of my favorite areas.
  24. if i am going outside of town it is always with my dad but if it is the river that runs through town i fish with my younger cousin as long as i can fish and i dont have to do all there work ill go with anybody. but i will take my younger cousins who cant do everything themselves i dont get a lot of fishing in but that is fine once in awhile.
  25. Nope Papa, it 's the guy that lifts or lowers the anchor, kinda your personal slave. It hink i might be him :-[ :
