Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle
Avid, Just made an important point. Some of the best tips come from the old timers. The bass themselves have not changed, only our expensive toys that we use to pursue them. I just went through my husbands library and found another older book that I want to read, "Practical Black Bass Fishing", by Mark Sosin and Bill Dance. Looks like there is alot of information of fishing different types of structure, etc. The Bass Resource E-book is probably an excellent source of information. Maybe Glenn or the mods can post some info on how to obtain it.

Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle
Bass Wisdom is a GREAT book! I would recommend Doug's book, "Big Bass Magic". I just finished reading it, and it is loaded with great info. I also enjoyed the book, "Sowbelly". Some of the information is not exactly correct, but it does give you an insight into the quest for the WRB (World Record Bass). Doug and Homer's books are instructional.

BassResource.com---Who's looking??
LBH, You are right, banners are not free! We are going to have to break down and have more banners made ourselves. Tony is excellent in the purchasing department, so when we find a good source, I will pass the info along to Glenn. Maybe one of the members on this site has a banner business. I like to support fellow members.

BassResource.com---Who's looking??
BassResource has the best reputation of any forum! Several of the top pros read the articles and visit the forum. I was visiting with a top FLW pro a couple of months ago, and he is a regular visiter to this site. Me made a comment that the BR forum is filled with good information, and is a well run forum! Heck on of my best friends owns a big forum here in Texas, and he has made several comments that BR is a great site. That says something when other forum owners hand out compliments! On a side note, the PAA (Professional Anglers Association) is kicking off their first big Classic the second week in March on Lake Fork. The purse is ONE MILLION dollars, and will feature 160 of the top professional anglers. We have been invited to participate, and will have a 10" by 10" booth. I would be MORE THAN happy to do some BR promoting at the Classic. Banners, or any other promotion items would be good. The annual BR Fork trip is the following week, so I could return the banners, etc, at that time. They are anticipating a LARGE turnout at the event. Something to consider!

Guide to getting females to fish..
Well I grew up hunting and fishing. My father was an avid outdoorsman, with NO SONS. We went fishing together ALL OF THE TIME. I will never forget the time that we went 40 miles offshore, the gulf was rough that day. I was VERY SEASICK! After almost two hours of misery, I was dehydrated and thirsty. My dad was in such a rush to leave that day that he forgot the sodas, but he did not forget the beer. I was 10 years old at the time. Needless to say, I drank beer for the first time that day and caught many Kingfish and Cobia. So men try to find a woman that was exposed to fishing at a young age. You probably will not have to babysit her, and ALWAYS remember that women are VERY competitive. Make a BIG DEAL when she catches a fish, like, "wow honey that is a beauty". Most guides will tell you that most women will listen and are quick learners. ABOVE ALL BE PATIENT WITH HER! Thats all for now.

Tournament fishing--a negative view
When I met my husband, I had a negative view of tournament bass anglers. Of course his business very much caters to tournament bass anglers. My views really were not based on facts. I was sure that all tournament anglers were arrogant, uneducated bubbas with beer a belly. It took him TWO YEARS to convince me to open my mind, and at least give them, and his passion a chance. Looking back, I was the one that was arrogant. For the most part tournament anglers are repectful to others. Of course there are a few bad apples, but they are found in EVERY group. Now I find myself actually fighting for their right to participate and enjoy the sport. There are a few circuits that have a bad reputation with both the public and other tournament anglers. The trail mentioned by other posters does not have a good reputation in Texas. Maybe, anglers that fish that trail can help by talking to the tournament directors, etc. But for the most part tournament trails and their anglers are an important part of the sportfishing industry. Many innovative lures are designed by tournament anglers, and are available for all anglers. I have found a good number of tournament anglers that donate time and resources to improving habitat, and we all benefit from that! Just my 02cents!

Dear board members and staff of Bass Resource.com
NICE CARP! Beautiful coloration as well. Was it caught on bread? I have heard of Big Red and Cereal. I have only caught one carp, and it took my lure while trolling for salmon. It put up one heck of a fight!

Dear board members and staff of Bass Resource.com
I haven't a clue as to what the misunderstanding was about, but I don't care to know either! What I do know is that if someone is willing to admit to making a mistake, then we should ALL welcome that person back with open arms! Welcome back Lady Bass, I don't want to be the only woman actively posting on this forum! So please continue posting. I for one would like to the the famous Carp picture, the suspense is KILLING ME!

A glimpse at a dying piece of Americana
LBH, Thanks for sharing that video! People like Ted are the backbone of the fishing industry. I still maintain that big box retailers will never be able to provide the unique products, and services that small mom and pops give to the consumer. I have found custom lures, etc, that can't be found anywhere else. They carry the live bait that is specific for their area lakes, rivers and streams. Again, thanks for sharing.

Is it wrong not to vote
GMAN, That is GREAT! I might do the same thing in the next BIG election!
-
Is it wrong not to vote
I exercised my right to vote today! I voted for one of the alternates for Governor of the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS! In fact he is the ONLY CANIDATE that vowed to protect the right to hunt and fish in Texas by making it a part of the state consitution! Some of the candidates had lots of money, some ran their campaign on trash talk, others played the vote for me cause I am a, "Grandma". But today I was feeling kind of, "Kinky"! If ya don't vote, then ya can't gripe!

Boone Powell's resume for Jr. Bassmasters
Bassonly, LBH brought up a good point. Never place emphasis on religion or politics in resumes. SHOW potential sponsors your work ethics, etc. Actions speak louder than words.

Sponsorship tips from a sponsor (women included)
JayPea2005, GREAT advise! Your example is excellent! I am sure that you will not only recoup your initial investment in the booth space, but make a small profit as well. Perfect example of the two way street.

feeding my fish?
I recommend ORGANIC Alfalfa meal or pellets to fertilize the pond. It will establish the phytoplanton and zooplankton that larval fish feed on. The larger bluegill diet primarily consists of insects. One of the BEST PRODUCTS for growth, excellent water quality, and immune system support is TerraPond. It is an organic high mineral clay from the Salton Sea in California. There are several natural clays on the market, but the clay found around the Salton Sea superior in mineral nutrients. I personally ingest the human grade form of the clay for immune support. The website is, www.terrapond.com/about.htm Hope this info helps!

URGENT!!! Sportfishing Under Attack! MUST READ!
Glenn, I just got off the phone with Gordon Robertson, the vice president of the ASA. We have been members of the ASA for several years. He gave me a update on the USDA/APHIS ban. They are unlikely to rescind the ban. They met STRONG OPPOSITION from the various state DNR agencies along with scientists from Michigan State University Sea Grant Program, etc. They have not made a formal decision as of yet. I am working CLOSELY with my US Senator's top aide on the Agriculture Oversite Committee on this issue, along with federal legislation to force cargo ships to disinfect ballast tanks before entry into the Great Lakes. The USDA/APHIS ban is like putting a BandAid on a gapping wound! Most of us in the scientific community believe that fish will develop natural antibodies against the virus in the next 2 years. Unfortunately, we also believe that this virus will mutate as it travels down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. There is NO WAY to stop the spread down the Mississippi River. The Zebra Mussels have already make their way into the Gulf of Mexico. For 15 YEARS the Great Lake's Fish Health Commission has asked the government to force cargo ships to either disinfect or grind the contents of organisims in their ballast tanks! The ecology of the Great Lakes has been SEVERLY damaged, and it will take YEARS and HARD work to restore the LARGEST lake system on the planet. The Great Lakes comprise 20% of the freshwater on the planet. Putting USELESS bans on the states fishing industry along with state and university research facilities is CRAZY! It also makes no sense to endanger the already damaged eco system with fishes brought in from the south. The Asian Carp has already breached barriers and has entered the Great Lakes. We do not need to introduce any NON NATIVE SPECIES OF FISH! Bringing in goldfish or genetically engineered baitfish is DANGEROUS! Here is a interesting link on the current ecological situation of the Great Lakes. Hopefully members will gain some useful insight. www.ehponline.org/members/2005/113-3/focus.html This is a health advisory link for New York regarding the Type E Botulism. In fact they found thousands of dead Canadian Geese earlier this week in North Dakota. All dead from the Type E Botulism. www.dec.state.ny.us/website/press/pressrel/2006/2006110.html

Dead Fish
Laggyman, I may be able to help. I would need good photos of the dead fish, including close-ups, and pictures of the pond. Water depth is important. It is very possible that the bottom of the pond turned over. You talked about algae, is there a yellow, brown, golden algae present in the pond? You can send me a PM if you want. Sorry for your loss.

URGENT!!! Sportfishing Under Attack! MUST READ!
What fish are being saved??? Do you consider state DNR agencies, "local bait fisheries"? The repercussions go WAY BEYOND, "local bait fisheries". This is America, you have a right to your opinions. Let's leave it at that.

URGENT!!! Sportfishing Under Attack! MUST READ!
c312, Both myself and my husband are microbiologists that specialize in fish diseases. My husband has over 24 years of experience with fish diseases. We are located in TEXAS. We could easliy capitalize on the VHS outbreak. But I like to sleep at nite, and itegrity is a core value with us. We do not do business with the, "local bait fisheries" in the north. The big LOSERS in this federal order are the ANGLERS in the northern states. State and federal stocking programs will cease, food fish and bait fish will cost more, etc. I really feel for the state biologists and hatchery managers that have worked sooo hard to ensure that YOU have a quality fishery. Afterall, they have had testing procedures in place for VHS since June. These same managers have BEGGED Washington to regulate the release of ballast water into the Great Lakes. This is not about money for me, but about preserving and conserving what I LOVE, FISHING! Money can't buy the peace of mind that I experience when I leave my troubles behind, pick up my rod and go fishing!
