Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Hey, Im going on vacation to Brewster MA and was hoping to see if anyone had any pointers on which spots are the most productive. Has anyone every tried Sheep pond and have any information on it? thats the closest one to me but i see plenty of other lakes surrounding it.

Whopper Plopper
If i had multiple rods i would fish it with non braided line. ive had them snap off twice when my reel locked up mid cast and with braid there is no forgiveness. luckily i was able to get them back. i still use them on 30 lbs braid but i adjust my reel and make gentle lobs rather than heaving it out. the 130 is big but i prefer to use them over the 90. with the 90 it tends to not float as good and if you replace the trebles and if its a butt hair heavier it wont swim as well at the start of the retrieve. Plus the 130s catches smaller ones too.

How much do you spend on tackle?
since the start of the year its been over $1K in lures and line. i like them pretty lures too much.

Size vs Amount
I have this decision every lunch hour. i have a pond thats a guarantee that i get hooked up, but they are always less than a pound. i dont visit that place much but when i do its a blast, especially now im getting more comfortable with using frogs. its also good to get that skunk off the back and after that i can resume fishing better bodies of water in hopes of bigger bass.

Are Walking & Popper baits Necessary?
idk but top water fishing is so sweet to catch bass on that i dont care if i catch less fish.

6am Froggin
ive been frog fishing way too much. ive probably drastically reduced the numbers of bass i could of caught if i used a worm but i just cant stand not to fish a top water these days. its so fun to see and hear the strikes. a few times ive screamed like a little girl when i get that unexpected top water blow up.

Why are the use of snaps and swivels frowned upon?
its a must for me. i use only one rod and reel set up that i use on my lunch break. its not uncommon for me to use up to 5 lures in that time. also when i fish at night its really comes in handy. id probably use a whole spool each season from reties if i didnt use snaps. but on certain lures it can hinder the action. i find on my plopper 130 it makes it tilt in one direction, but other than that ive really had no issues. btw ive been using the tactical anglers power clips and it makes switching over so easy.

Odd hookups
do you swing upwards when you feel the bite? i usually do a 2-3 o'clock hookset. but that may be the incorrect way to apply the hookset but i havent hooked one in the eye like that with a chatter bait. worm fishing on the other hand where i lift up ive been noticing that problem too. i feel really bad about it as well.

Fell out of the boat?

Can anyone recommend a top water that is best for learning?
well we can agree to disagree. i hope i didnt offend anyone by saying the plopper is almost dummy proof. i have yet to miss a strike on one therefore i deemed it almost skill less top water technique. i still love using it though and its still my go to for top water action these days but if i land a few and switch over to a frog just for a challenge.

but what is there exactly to learn on such bait? he said he wanted to learn. those are cast and retrieve. sure you can vary the speed of the retrieve but what can that translate into later on when or if he wants to choose another method of top water?

i mean i speak from experience. the plopper for the most part, you just cast and retrieve. on a pencil you need to get a certain rhythm down using cadence in the line. its not easy but its something you work on to improve. not trying to insult anyone, ive been using the plopper everyday for the past few weeks. i still have not got the walk the dog down perfectly but its something i put work into.

theres not much to learn on the plopper. any idiot can catch bass on that. id vote for the spook, get the walk down good and you can use that skill on frogs.

Losing fish on frog

Is it wierd to like skirted jigs even though I've never caught a fish with one?
when ever i see a fallen half sunk tree i break out the jig. never be afraid to lose it in those branches either. yes you will lose some jigs but its a part of the game.
- Whopper Plopper saved the day!

Hook set with Wacky Hooks
