  1. Thanks guys, admittedly I haven't paid much attention to hook ratings and should have. I would up returning the load of 3x hooks and will order more suitable ones for replacement trebles.
  2. Yes looks like I might put these in the rotation for stripers in New England. Might have gone too heavy for bass.
  3. Spontaneously grabbed a bunch of 3x trebles for smaller swimbaits - size 2 and 4. Am I nuts? Is 3x too stout? What other applications do you guys use hooks like this for? Fwiw these are Mustad Ultrapoints.
  4. With this level of hype if they bring them there it will look like Walmart after the doors open for Black Friday. I'd rather continue fishing with my old baits for now than try to wade through the crowd for that one.
  5. For me it is about rigs. Free rig. Hover shot. Especially excited about the hover shot. Got the requisite components on the way.
  6. Thank you, order placed!
  7. You won't regret the spine craws, but maybe you've tried them already. They have been awesome for me, T-rigged and Tokyo Rig. They aren't fancy with the plain flapping claws with no flanges on the end but they sure worked well for me last year.
  8. Found a pile of Zoom Z-Swims for sale in GA. I am a Keitech Fat Impact fanatic and have used Strike King Rage Swimmers with success. Any opinions on Z-swims relative to the alternatives?
  9. Wow, awesome! Hunch confirmed. I will keep an eye out if I ever go in an Ollies - and if I get lucky, pick up some for @txchaser.
  10. This is just a hunch, but keep an eye out at Ollie's stores if you have any. If you aren't familiar with Ollie's, they sell overstock items, closeouts on discontinued products, etc. Some Ollies tend to get fishing gear stock wiped out quickly if they are in the right place (e.g. near lakes), in others, products languish forever. They have carried Sebile Magic Swimmers (at least the hard version) in the past. This leads me to assume there is a connection between Sebile and Ollies. They tend to maintain connections with the same brands from year to year, for whatever reason. In my experience Ollie's tackle prices range from phenomenal to head-scratching high for a discount store (mostly the later).

A lot of fans of Academy and their house brand gear here. Anyone with any experience with H2O trebles or other hooks? Wondering how good they are for the price.
  12. That’s a great point. They seem to like it covered or not!
  13. Thank you! I went with a Wilderness Systems Kayak Cover in S size. I made the choice based on a couple of responses on a FB forum and a couple of Amazon reviews that said it fit the 106 well. I made a quick order - then got some recommendations for covercraft. I've left my PDL 106 and Bonafide RS117 sitting uncovered in my yard for about 2 years. I would normally consider covering them to be good practice. I got a Bonafide cover for the RS117. I expect the prolonged exposure isn't good for the plastic material. I assume they are deteriorating in the sun, but I've seen no evidence of that. Its not like they are cracking, thinning or even fading noticeably. The more significant practical issue with not being covered is that they get dirty from insects, tree pollen and leaves, and squirrels etc. Water ponds in them sometimes and grows stuff. I power wash them a few times a year and they look and perform almost as good as new. After power washing I then put them right back in the sun. Around the time I made the post I ordered covers to finally cover them. Currently sitting in my garage (LOL). Not doing much good there. Keep thinking I'd wait to take the time to power wash again. That hasn't happened. I may do that today and will post my thoughts once done.
  14. Yeah the sales can be amazing, but I’ve had those painful issues with the website too. To clarify, the crazy sales aren’t on yet! they are easy to miss if you don’t time it right, so this is the reason for the request.
  15. Academy Sports fans... it is almost time for the annual clearance. Everything will sit on clearance at a small discount from regular price - maybe 10% to 30% off. During the initial markdown, not much sells. Then, suddenly, everything is marked down to a fraction of that price... . I am pretty sure the final drop happens nationwide. When someone comes upon the big clearance price drop... please post it!
  16. This is good. Spilling is always a bad experience. I prefer the spike-it pens, but understand why someone would want to dip in the jar.
  17. I will be there. Would not miss it. Have been to 4 of the last 5 with my son, the exception being 2021 in Fort Worth. Started when he was in 4th grade and now he's a highschooler.
  18. Often hear anglers lamenting the demise of a popular lure, or celebrating the resurrection of one lost for dead. A few years ago, various lures from Rapalas scatter rap series were being sold off all over the place. It seemed the product line had met it's demise. These had mixed reviews, so I wasn't shocked. But, they worked for me. I just realized TW carries many of the original Scatter Raps again (still?) and most importantly, they are shown as current lures on the Rapala website. I'm interested in hearing how guys feel about the much-derided scatter raps, and the surprising fact they live on.
  19. Of these, I tried the Gilly and had moderate success. Probably had the most success nosed hooked with a circle hook and a couple of finishing nails inserted to weight it down. Swam it close to surface like a wake/swimbait and got a couple of decent bites. Seems like a good application will be to fish near cover where a treble hook wakebait will be asking for more trouble with snags. Compared to a toad that might be used in a similar situation it's less weedless and more subtle. The new bait for last year for me is Rapala's flatsided OG and tiny OG cranks. Had good success with those.
  20. Both are widely sold at Walmart stores in the Atlanta area. Though I have seen many with stocks of Jelly Worms that sat completely untouched for years, with packages just yellowing in place. I finally bought some, but the price has gone from about $4 to about $8 per pack in 2 years. Culprits are sold at DSG's near us too. Not to say they are widely used!
  21. Been storing my Old Town outside, looking for a proper cover for it. Would love to hear about experience with different models. Simplicity is good. Want to cover it and forget it. Thank you!
  22. Some Walmart stores are now stocking Yamomoto senkos in the new packaging, except they have 7 senkos per pack rather than the original 10/pack that seem to still be available elsewhere. That's $7.49/10 at say TW or about $0.75 each. vs $4.50/7 so about $0.65 each. Not exactly a sale, but appears to be a new normal for senkos. This may account for the senkos going on clearance at stores where they remain available (some sold down stocks and did not replenish in recent years).
  23. Fair point; to clarify I meant to use ones that are damaged.
  24. Wondering if anyone is using Keitech swing impacts or impact fats, or other swimbaits, if the tail is ripped or torn off? I see Hog Farmer's Spunk Shad looks just like a tailless Keitech, and listened to Tactical Bassin guys saying they prefer not to use paddletails on bladed jigs. Anyone using them as trailers, for drop shot, etc?
  25. Thank you!! BASS' cut line text on Basstrakk was not updated. Man, what a close AOY!
